24.01.2022 December 15 NEW ORLEANS HERITAGE JAZZ BAND The New Orleans Heritage Jazzband is a child of the mid-eighties in Perth, when the jazz scene was at its height. The band is composed of members from various jazz bands, including Storyville and Corner-house. The idea was that we got together for a free-flowing style of jazz with a New Orleans feel - not marching band style, but with the driving sound coming from the clubs and venues in that famous city. The band’s policy is simple: we all play or we don’t play! That means we’ve had almost the same line-up since the 80s. It’s fun and we all love it.

22.01.2022 Tuesday September 8 DR JAZZ Dr Jazz has been around for 20 years. It was then a quintet which played at weddings and dances, but still featured Tristan as a vocalist. Now we have a 7-piece traditional jazz line up, and although we play traditional jazz, we also feature American Song Book vocals, music for dancers, and some entertaining cabaret numbers. The oldest member of the band is my 97 year old bass saxophone which must have been playing in the US in the Roaring Twenties !

22.01.2022 October 6 CORNERHOUSE JAZZ BAND Corner House Jazz Band plays traditional jazz with a hard driving style, making it one of Australia’s most accomplished jazz bands. The band was formed in 1980 to play at the Railway Hotel, North Fremantle, and still plays there every Saturday afternoon. It is also in it’s 20th year of Friday night gigs at the Jazz Cellar. The Cellar is always jumpin' with the band's pumping and nostalgic repertoire that includes New Orleans Jazz, the Chic...ago sounds of the roaring 20s, Swing, the Duke Ellington jungle sounds of the Cotton Club in Harlem, Louie Armstrong Hot Fives and Sevens, and Souza Marches, plus much more. The band has toured overseas, twice to the USA, to Malaysia, Japan, New Zealand and Borneo, as well as playing in all other Australian States. Various band members have made individual tours, or with other bands, including to the UK, Japan and Europe. See more

22.01.2022 September 22 THE BECHET LEGACY Passion perfection genius are words used to describe New Orleans legend Sidney Bechet. Phil Hatton, featured artist at more than 50 jazz festivals in the USA, has put together a superb band featuring himself and Steve Searle on reeds, Australian great Barry Bruce on piano, Mal Mah on bass and Dave Gryl on drums, to play music inspired by Bechet. If youre a Bechet fan or simply a fan of New Orleans jazz, and the two reed sound, you wont want to miss this!

17.01.2022 December 8 POWERHOUSE JAZZ BAND The popular Powerhouse Jazz Band was formed in Perth in early 1997 with the commitment to perform a variety of popular jazz styles, but playing mainly dixieland, swing and some latin. We are proud to have still in the band the original musos with Phil Hatton, Barry Bruce, John Healy, Tim Woolley and myself on trombone. We also had the great privilege of having with us great trumpet players like Murray Swain, Paddy Fitzallan and the fabulous Mal Jennings. We now feature the most sought after pro trumpet player, namely Benn Hodgkin. Rounding up the band is the most versatile Kim Anning on guitar and banjo. Do enjoy the band and please take us home with our CD on display.

14.01.2022 December 1 KENT STREET RIVERSIDE STOMPERS This is probably the only band in Australia using a bass sax for the bass line. This is a style adopted by Bix Beiderbek in the late 1920’s. The bass saxophone has a driving effect which made the Beiderbek band so successful. Good for listening and very suitable for dancing. Every member of the band is very experienced and we are all looking forward to entertaining you all.

13.01.2022 September 15 SOUTH PERTH LIONS BIG BAND Under the experienced direction of Phil Hatton, the South Perth Lions big band performs for dances, Lions events, festivals, fundraisers and public events such as the annual community Carols at Sunset. The band also plays several times a year for corporate events and private functions. Band members donate their services and all profits raised support the Youth Music Program and the community service of the South Perth Lions Club. For ...their performance at the Jazz Club of WA, they are looking forward to showcasing their pre World War 2 repertoire, including some rarely heard arrangements of traditional jazz favourites by the likes of Jelly Roll Morton, Kid Ory and Lew Pollack. They are inspired by the early jazz big band sounds of Fletcher Henderson, Jean Goldkette, Bob Crosby and Duke Ellington. Expect to hear some big band classics from Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and Glenn Miller too. See more

10.01.2022 October 20 THE OZ BIG BAND The Oz Big Band are dedicated to recreating the music and energy of the great big bands of the 30s, 40s and 50s. Formed in 1985, this 18-piece outfit has become popular amongst the Lindy Hop and Swing Dance scenes around Australia for its authenticity and high energy. Touring regularly around Australia the Oz Big Band plays the music of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmie Lunceford, Benny Goodman, Fletcher Henderson, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and many more. A regular house band at the Mustang Bar in Northbridge, the Oz Big Band knows how to wind it up, and let it go!

09.01.2022 September 29 THE VINTAGE JAZZ BAND The Vintage Jazz Band was formed approximately 3 years ago specifically to play at our Jazz club. Some of the personnel would be among the earliest members of the Jazz clubs in W.A. The styles of Jazz and music this band is capable of playing is wide and varied, however we make sure that the band plays traditional, Dixieland, swing, mainstream ,latin, and waltzes if required. Personnel is as follows:- Barry Bruce ( Band Leader) Piano, Murray wilkins Bass, Barry Cox Drums, John Savon Guitar, Steve Searle ( Trumpet, Soprano Sax, Baritone,) Herman Scheidler Trombone, Phil Hatton ( Clarinet ,tenor, Soprano ). As well as playing a variety of jazz standards the band understands GOOD TEMPOS for Dancing. Barry has led bands over many years that have played for Ballroom dancing , and swing or Jazz dancing .

Doctor Jazz was started over twenty years ago when our featured singer Tristan first performed at the Jazz Club as a 14 years old. With our bass player who also sings, we play a broad range of songs from 1930’s numbers to Beatles, Latin and novelty songs.
