24.01.2022 Toni Childs, a Performing musician created the Petition below on behalf of all the performing arts. People in the art sector are falling through the cracks during this time. Toni is going to give artists the opportunity to share the effect the lock down has had on their lives and career; she proposes to send video interviews with artists to the current treasurer. She said its easy for the Treasurer to pass performing artists by when they are merely a statistic, so she want's... to give a personal face to artists and to bring more awareness to the Petition she created that will go to the Australian Treasury Department and Tony Burke, who is supporting her and and her petition. If you are an appreciator of music or any of the arts, your signature could make a difference. https://www.megaphone.org.au//take-care-of-the-performing- I am the artist known as Toni Childs. I am an Emmy Winner and three-time Grammy-nominated recording artist who lives in Australia. This is a shout out to all the performing artists and musicians affected by this lockdown. And... this is a shout out to all those who want to lend their voice in suppor...

23.01.2022 REPLY TO COMMENT ABOUT AN ALTERNATIVE VENUE: If there was another more suitable venue in Maroochydore I'd seriously look at it, but I don't know that there is one more suitable than the "Old Soul Bar". If there was one it would still have to be viable, in other words bring in enough revenue after overheads to pay the band a respectable fee. Maroochydore needs a music venue regardless of the Jazz & Blues Collective Maroochydore's existence, where music appreciators can enjoy r...eal music not canned stuff that the poker machine addicted clubs and profit motivated pubs and other venues provide. Mature aged demographic patrons are a growing population in Maroochydore, many of whom love live music. All we need are venues to appreciate this, unfortunately Covid restrictions are live music's biggest hurdle at the moment. There will be Live mature music again post Covid if enough people want it! 22.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch Since the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian suggested we change the words of the National anthem why don't we go the whole hog and change the song to one we all know the words to and can sing with all our heart. How about 'Land Down Under' by Men at Work!

20.01.2022 Some interesting history of Jazz in Maroochydore. Jazzland and general store Cotton Tree. The history of Jazz and music in Maroochydore goes back a long way. One the earliest residents and business owners in Cotton Tree. Maurice Evans married Maude Elizabeth Perren in 1920 and took over his family’s Maroochy River farm. In 1922, Maurice and Maude moved to Cotton Tree where they opened a general store in a small timber building near the corner of King Street. In ...1923, they bought a nearby building at the corner of King Street and Cotton Tree Parade and relocated their business to the new corner site. They extended the premises to include Jazzland - a popular dance and picture hall - and began screening silent movies which they bought for a shilling (10 cents) each. These proved to be a great attraction, drawing large crowds to the Wednesday and Saturday night sessions and Saturday matinees. The Evans’s sold the lease to their business in 1928 and on August 15, 1932 the building was destroyed by a sudden fire. In the following year, the shop and theatre were rebuilt and Maurice and Maude took over the running of the business. In December 1936, Maurice opened a new 900-seat theatre, named the Beach Theatre in King Street. He operated it for a short time before leasing it to C Gilbert. Mr Gilbert, the owner of the Beach Talkies, pioneered the motion picture business at Maroochydore. In 1939, the Odean Theatre Company took over the theatre management and in 1948, Maurice finally sold out to Mr Comino. Throughout this period, Jazzland continued to be a popular venue and during the 1950s it was used for a variety of entertainment. Dancing at Jazzland was advertised for every Saturday night with a bus service from Nambour. Holiday dances were held on Friday and Saturday and to midnight Sunday on long weekends. Jazzland Orchestra and Johnny Evans’ Rhythm Rockers Orchestra proved a great drawcard. Fundraising dances for local clubs and societies were also held in the hall along with dance competitions and displays including flower shows and church mannequin parades. In 1962, the dance hall one of Cotton Tree’s best known buildings - was totally destroyed by an early morning fire. In the same year, the Beach Theatre, renamed Danceland, was renovated to provide dancing space for more than 1200 people. Keep Jazz & Blues Alive in Maroochydore and the Sunshine Coast. See more

14.01.2022 Teresa De Roberto: Wrote "I'm a classical crossover singer from Somerset, who is now living in London trying to pursue the singing dream!!" (She says with her fingers tightly crossed). "Whilst recording some videos this morning 18.06.2020) I read the sad news that the Forces Sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn has sadly passed a way. A woman who brought comfort to so many millions during their darkest hour and the nation loved her because she brought so much hope! It felt right that my video this week should be in memory of such a beautiful soul!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-dY_zXBWgA
14.01.2022 "Here We Go Again". Another month has gone by and the Jazz & Blues Collective still isn't able to resume events as social distancing isn't practicable at the Old Soul Bar. 13.01.2022 The following is a random collection of memorabilia (many undated) event posters, news paper articles from the 1990' era. They are a small part of a hoard colle...cted by Roy Taylor, a late Sunshine Coast musician who lived in Kawana. I have many more interesting clippings from his collection that I hope to get around to scanning one day. They came into my possession by chance saving them from the rubbish bin! If you have any information on any of the content or want to make a comment please do. It was obviously a very good era for appreciators of live Jazz music in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast & Noosa area's. Graeme Buchanan. Keep Live Jazz & Blues Alive.

03.01.2022 Our Sunday 6th September Jazz & Blues Collective Event has again been postponed due to Covid restrictions. THE FRIM FRAM SAUCE CELEBRATING ELLA FITZGERALD AND LOUIS ARMSTRONG Melly Melody, Joe Howman, and the Art Deco Swing Band were due to put on an intimate show celebrating the music and friendship of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.... Celebrating one of the most remarkable Jazz partnerships in history! When Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong first recorded together in 1946 for Verve records, it was the start of an unlikely but wonderful musical partnership. The combination of Ellas refined, super smooth voice paired with Louiss raspy, rustic voice resulted in a musical chemistry that made their recordings a joy to listen to, and totally unforgettable.Though stylistically distinctly different, they created some of Jazz Musics finest and most memorable duets! From the smooth ballad You Wont Be Satisfied Until You Break My Heart to the playful Frim Fram Sauce, Ella and Louis were a musical match made in heaven. There will be light at the end of the Covid tunnel. As soon as we know when Melly is able to put on an alternate event we'll let you know. Look forward to seeing Melly perform with her band at a future scheduled date. 'LIVE JAZZ & BLUES WILL BE ALIVE AGAIN IN MAROOCHYDORE'.
02.01.2022 In consideration of our Jazz & Blues music appreciating audience it has been decided it would not be appropriate to go ahead with our 'Estampa' event on the 5th April. We had really good pre event booking numbers, so the event would otherwise have been well supported by you. At our last 'Art Deco Swing Band' event we covered our costs sufficiently to pay the band a bonus payment, such a great time was had by everyone. We hope to see John Reeves and t...he other 'Estampa' band members on the Sunshine Coast before to long. All pre bookings will be refunded in full, the Jazz & Blues will absorb the booking fee and Ticketebo are waiving bank charges for the money to be re-credited to accounts due to the circumstances of the cancellation.. Thankyou for your support of the Jazz & Blues Collective We have had 15 brilliant events in a row since our first event in January 2019. Keeping Live Jazz & Blues Alive in Maroochydore.
