16.01.2022 A glimpse inside a rehearsal of one of our jazz combos for young musicians. Here they are playing the "head" of Caravan, after everyone had taken a solo. After this we went on to focus on some rhythm section techniques. Previously we'd worked on improvisation techniques including Phrygian dominant scale over the extendend C7b9 chord and thematic development.

14.01.2022 We've just found space for two more bass players into Summer Jazz Camp thanks to our new, larger venue. Email us [email protected] to apply. https://jazzworkshopaustralia.com.au/jazz-camp/

13.01.2022 We are extremely excited to announce that Jazz Workshop Australia will be moving to a wonderful new venue In St Leonards! The new JWA will be just around the corner on Chandos St, seconds walk away from where we are now (you can see it just over the lane from our back windows). We expect to be moving into our awesome new HQ end of June. There will be no disruption to lessons or rehearsals. While it will be a bit sad to farwell our Atchison St home of 14 years, we are bursting with anticipation for this fresh new space. We are in the middle of crafting our new Chandos St home, but here are a couple of glimpses of the works now in progress. We'll keep you updated.

10.01.2022 It is our very great pleasure to welcome trumpet teacher Bernice Tesara to JWA. Bernice is a jazz musician who also has a strong background in classical trumpet and is a fine teacher. We welcome her to our trumpet teaching team. She is available for lessons from the start of term 2.

10.01.2022 Summer Jazz Camp is nearly full. We are still accepting drummers, bassists, tenor sax, and bari sax, and limited other instruments. Places for vocalists and pianists are sold out. www.jazz.camp

09.01.2022 Registration for Summer Jazz Camp closes 8 November. Availability still for drummers and bassists. Limited availability for other instruments. The vocal program is full. https://jazzworkshopaustralia.com.au/jazz-camp/

08.01.2022 Reminder to our jazz combo students: there are no rehearsals this weekend. Have a great holiday and we'll see you next term.

05.01.2022 Northern beaches and North shore locals, check this out.

04.01.2022 We are delighted to welcome Eric Dunan to JWA. A jazz Trumpeter, Eric is one of Australia's leading and most energetic, and best-loved jazz educators. A long-standing member of our Jazz Camp faculty and a frequent tutor at other camps, Eric will now be joining us to teach jazz combos. He will also have limited availability for trumpet tuition on Saturdays. Eric heads the jazz department at Wollongong Conservatorium of Music and we are excited to have him now establishing a regular presence in Sydney with us at JWA. Welcome Eric!

04.01.2022 Summer Jazz Camp has changed venues. It is now going to be at Elanora conference centre at Elanora Heights. That's about 15km north of the usual location at Naamaroo which has been temporarily closed. It is a wonderful site with great rehearsal spaces, comfy rooms, and no stairs. Uniting Venues have been terrific in helping us relocate at short notice. All campers have been emailed about the move and we'll naturally send out more info such as how to get there, drop-off and check-in procedures. We can't wait to try out Jazz Camp's 2021 home.

02.01.2022 We delighted to welcome trombonist Ragan Kang (M.Mus, B.Mus jazz) to JWA. Multi-talented Ragan teaches jazz trombone and classical trombone and euphonium. He is now taking students at JWA. https://jazzworkshopaustralia.com.au/music-lessons/

02.01.2022 All students registered for Summer Jazz Camp were sent a very important email this afternoon. If this is you/your child, please check that you got it. Thanks!
