23.01.2022 Using evidence, providing clinical care: a practical approach to implementation

22.01.2022 Depression is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and comorbid depression is associated with a twofold greater risk of mortality in patients with cardiovascular disease. Clinical practice guidelines have previously recommended routine screening for depression and anxiety following a cardiac event. However, a new scoping review finds that there is a lack of consistency in how depression and anxiety screening tools are integrated into cardiac models of care ...and clinical pathways. Only half of acute coronary syndrome guidelines found for the period of the scoping review recommend screening for depression and/or anxiety. Read more in the JBI Evidence Synthesis scoping review, 'Screening for depression and anxiety among patients with acute coronary syndrome in acute care settings' at http://ow.ly/XPNl50BzIf5 #WorldHeartDay #UseHeart #JBIES #EBHC

16.01.2022 With the opioid crisis, there is a need for effective non-opioid options. The findings of a new systematic review and meta-analysis suggest that IV acetaminophen may have little effect when administered in addition to intrathecal morphine, and that administration of both could be unnecessary. The systematic review, 'Effect of intrathecal morphine plus patient-controlled analgesia with morphine versus patient-controlled analgesia with morphine alone on total morphine dose 24 hours post-surgery: a systematic review' findings help anaesthesia providers compare intrathecal morphine to other postoperative analgesia techniques in order to determine the more appropriate management technique for patients.
