25.01.2022 What do scissors and JB Locksmiths have in common? I am becoming an expert in removing broken scissor tips from car ignitions. In and around the Ballarat train station car parks thefts (probably young teenagers) are trying to pick the Ignition barrel with the end of the scissors before it snaps off. They normally target older cars that don't have a factory fitted immobiliser.

24.01.2022 When buying a safe be aware that there is no such thing as a fire "proof" safe. Only fire resistant. On "fire proof" safes it will state its rating on hour/hours at what temperature. We sell domestic Yale fire resistant safes: 1 hour fire protection for documents at 927c
24.01.2022 As per request, this is a photo of a roller door anchor. This product fits on the inside of the roller door, the base plate is bolted to the concrete. The t-bar is mounted roller door which a padlock is put through the eye of the t- bar. The base plate acts as a hinge so it is possible to drive over(normally in the middle of the door and won't be drove on anyway). This product is $110 + $66 Labour/ call out charge to fit. $176 total *Please note that the remote can not be used if this device is locked*

22.01.2022 It's amazing how tradies have thousands of dollars worth of tools. But use a $10 dollar padlock to protect them. This padlock was easily cut with bolt cutters. Our commercial padlocks start at $35 and are very hard to cut with bolt cutters (some cannot be cut using bolt cutters at all). They are also hack saw resistant.

21.01.2022 For the last few months everyday someone has called saying their keys were stolen from their house(2 people today). Do not leave your keys in a key bowl, on the fridge, in a kitchen cupboard, on your dresser. Buy a safe and bolt it to the ground, it will save you time and money. Our domestic fire safes start at $410 to $515. Some cars keys cost the same as our safes....

18.01.2022 What not to do when you snap a piece of your key inside the lock. Super glue the other half and stick it back into the barrel so the it joins onto the broken piece. Yes people actually do this, not only does it make it impossible for us to remove the broken piece but also jams the pins inside the lock. =new lock

15.01.2022 Hello everyone, not a happy uplifting post but just letting everyone know now that people are returning to work and weekend events the crime rate has jumped up again. Multiple break ins/ stolen keys last weekend all over Ballarat area. Please put spare keys in your safe if you don’t have a safe hide them. Leaving your keys on the kitchen bench, in the car, on the fridge just makes it easier for them and more costly for you. These robbers aren’t the smartest bunch, example this car in the photo they stole the key to it but the car didn’t start because it was in Drive not Park

14.01.2022 Commodore season has kicked off already. VN to VZ ignition barrels hate this hot weather and jammed up so you can’t turn your key. We are fully stocked and ready.
14.01.2022 Replacement VR to VZ commodore key shells are a bad idea. Last week we had three different customers stuck unable to start their car due to these shells. If your buttons are worn it is time for a new genuine key head. VR to VZ keys need the battery in the head to start the car. Unfortunately Holden weld the battery to the chip. JB locksmiths are able to help if you get stuck or if you are after a spare key

07.01.2022 Does your car key look like this? These clone keys use a battery, when the battery goes flat they lose their memory and like this customer can no longer start the car. JB Locksmiths have only ever supplied battery less clone keys. For the same price you can get a more reliable product. Also a smaller key head as seen in second photo.

03.01.2022 Ballarat is experiencing a rise in garage door forced entry. Last night a police officer spoke at the Rotary Club of Ballarat South about worldwide terrorism(visiting France) and Ballarat's community safety. Explaining how easy it is to lift the modern day roller doors just by prying the bottom. Please lock your cars in your garage and also lock the door leading into the house if you have one. Cars made after the year 2000 (roughly) are fitted with immobilisers which are very hard to steal without your key. So also don't leave your key or spare key in a place where a burglar can easily access them.
