25.01.2022 Loving life on a Friday!!

24.01.2022 This is why JBTurbo 1HZ kits are so reliable by having very low turbine drive pressure. And also why we I use the Eclipse divided exhaust manifold! https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=2335673493137129&id=1905975599440256&__tn__=K-R

20.01.2022 Another 1HZ kit making light work of the challenge

20.01.2022 Turbocharged 1HZ in today swapped out for one of our highflowed and VNT balanced JBTurbo J3 turbochargers & The Eclipse Turbo Systems Split Pulse Manifold . Wha...t a great way to test the low end difference. Huge torque difference! all gains - no losses over a factory turbocharger. What a great upgrade for the 1h factory turbo models. See more

19.01.2022 Another Successful install & tune of one of our JBTurbo 1HZ Kits Powered by Eclipse Turbo Systems !! Great results from the guys Modified Diesel Performance talk to them today to have your 1HZ kits installed and tuned.

19.01.2022 Trevor's LandCruiser in for a tune today after he install one our 1HZ kits !! Healthy results

18.01.2022 Lots of nice JBTurbo'd 1HZ's through for tuning lately. It's great to see consistency in results across a range of different vehicles. Pre-turbo installation they sit right around 35- 40rwkw even with a tune that is heavy on fuel. And leave around 70- 75rwkw with the piece of mind! A gain of around 100 much needed Newton Meters of Torque..

18.01.2022 With Christmas fast approaching our team is working around the clock to get our backorders out the door so can deliver the goods !! Lots of Manifold CNC machining 4x4 Mods Australia JBTurbo

17.01.2022 Will's 75 in for some much needed 1HZ love... JBTurbo boost and a healthy tune - loves it! I'm sure it will be a pleasurable four hour drive home. Warning speeding tickets will not be covered by JBTurbo The best way to book in and get your Diesel Tuned is via email, so we can co-ordinate a run of tuning. Enjoy... TGIF..

13.01.2022 1HZ Injector pumps! Do I need a boost compensator after turbocharging my 1hz engine? Factory 10mm 1hz injector pump = NO! ... When we refer to the factory 10mm injector pump, we are referring to the size of the plunger/ head (10mm) and the bench configuration (factory settings) which dictates the amount of fuel and internal transfer pressure for timing control. The 1hz pump is quite easy to understand. Working on an RPM ratio of 2:1 meaning for every 1000RPM of the engine, the injector pump is half that at only 500RPM. As the engine RPM increases so does the fuel delivery linearly. What does a boost compensator do? Once turbocharged, the air density increases (turbocharger = density multiplier) so additional fuel needs to be added to gain power. The fuel screw is increased until the stable AFR is achieved from full boost pressure until the end of the RPM (usually 22/20:1). The compensator is a mechanism that reduces amount of fuel being delivered until full boost is achieved. After this, it plays no further part. So, it is an off boost/ pre full boost fuel reducer! Here is a JBTurbo 1HZ kit running 15psi non intercooled. (pictured) Very conservative tune as requested by the owner. At 15psi (non intercooled) the turbocharger is producing enough air density to almost max out the factory 1HZ injector pump, while still leaving some room for age/wear and tear of the injector pump. It is producing an exceptionally clean AFR of 22:1 and over the RPM it reduces to 20:1 (very safe). And therefore, why we recommend 15psi maximum. It is not because the turbocharger is not capable of much higher pressures or efficiencies. 15psi is where all the testing has been completed. You are not working the turbocharger too hard and there is no point in going any higher because you do not have the fuel for further gains. So let’s throw some facts in. Standard 1HZ injector pump bench test = 12cc per 200 shot Timing 3.5 Full turn of the fuel screw = 17.9cc per 200 shot Timing 3.2 Fuel required for JBTurbo kit 15psi 18.9cc per 200 shot Timing 3.2 You can see that the timing reduces a very minimal amount and safe. Back to the compensator area: (circle on picture) A 1HZ pre-combustion diesel requires an AFR of 16:1 down low (it is designed for it) and we are still at 17:1AFR. As the fuel is being delivered linearly, it is leaned out by the turbochargers higher rate of air density. We could have achieved much better performance by turning the fuel up further. But for this owner - peace of mind is worth far more, and he is more than happy with 70+% gain over standard. Unless you are re-benching and turning the 10mm pumps fuel up (via the pressure regulator) and pushing the pre-boost AFR below 16:1 in order to achieve the correct Full boost AFR, or you are upgrading to a 12mm pump You do not need a boost compensator. 12.01.2022 Blow By (crank case pressure) and catch cans! Long over due discussion. All engines have some crank case pressure, otherwise known as blow by. Choosing how to minimise its effects comes down to understanding the system used to reduce it called a PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve. Which is not really a valve at all, but an oil separator system and breather hole for ventilation located in the engines rocker/ valve cover. ... Cold start: Higher blow by at first start up is a normal occurrence with diesel engines (regardless if turbocharged or not). This is a resulting factory of the piston material being used along with the mass of the piston - allowing for higher thermal expansion. Once warm these higher tolerances close reducing the amount of pressure that can slip by. Turbocharged 1hz engines and blow by: In most cases, blow by is acceptable (normal) so venting to atmosphere is fine. If higher than acceptable blow by is present, venting the PCV back into the intake system (pre turbo/ post air filter) is the best way of reducing this. This concept is a simple one. By creating a vacuum (read: higher vacuum pressure due to the turbochargers increased mass flow requirements high velocity at low pressure) you are sucking the crank case pressure out before it even has a chance to build high crank case pressure. The by product of this, is that some higher levels of oil vapour can be extracted along with the gasses, so a catch can is required to separate the two allowing only the gasses to enter back into the intake system. I believe this is where a lot of people make a mistake, not all catch cans are created equal! And instead of helping, some instead create a high restriction than even venting to atmosphere thus increasing the blow by and crank case pressure to a new level. Regarding the turbocharger system, this now restricts the oil returns flow causing the CHRA pressure to rise (fed by the oil system pressure) which pushes oil past the piston seals on the compressor and turbine sides (causing a Smokey exhaust at times). Pistons seals are stainless steel compression rings, they do not really fail. The turbine side can fatigue after a very long time at very high temperatures, or they can be chopped if not installed correctly rant over back to the PCV valve. The only catch can we have tested that actually works is the Provent. We have not tested all of them! I am sure there are probably others that are satisfactory to use also (I really wish they came with some testing data ). So, we can only recommend what we know works. Edit. For the people asking which one to use. https://www.4x4modsaustralia.com.au/provent-200-generic-kit

06.01.2022 Lowering the boost pressure for 1hz engines. There are a few customers lowering the boost pressure on the JBTurbo 1HZ kits and its a question we address often. So lets answer it together. You may think that this is a good practice to aid longevity and reliability, when really you are only causing more problems. These kits are designed and tested to run at 12psi Minimum, and 15psi Maximum (which is within the corrected fuel delivery range read standard 1hz - 10mm pump ...for the air density provided at 15psi non intercooled). Boost pressure does not harm 1HZ diesel engines. Turbine back pressure and excessive fuel does. But the main focus of the question at hand is why isnt running lower boost pressure a good solution? And, why 12psi Minimum? The answer is waste-gating! This is the valve that opens to bypass exhaust gasses directly into your exhaust to limit the drive/ shaft speed of the turbocharger, and is referred to as flow (usually in a percentage format). If a turbocharger requires say 60hp (exhaust gas discharge volume) to reach and maintain 90,000rpm (12psi of boost pressure), then any hp volume above this generated by the engine must be gated. And will look something like this. ...Turbine wheel flow = 60% / ... Gating required 40% 90,000rpm (12psi) If you now lower the boost pressure to 8psi (read- shaft speed). Then the gating percentage must increase, and will now look something like this. ... Turbine wheel flow = 40% / ... Gating required 60% 75,000rpm (8psi) This means. Lowering the boost pressure requires a higher gating percentage that most turbine housings simply cant achieve due to their design and size left over from antiquated 40 year old technology and design principles. This will create back pressure. So does running the turbocharger at higher shaft speed (15psi) lower this back pressure? Yes. The turbocharger may require 60hp to achieve 12psi (90,000rpm) but it only requires a small amount more (lets say 10%) to achieve 15psi (102,000rpm) in which, the turbine wheel's flow capability has increased by (lets say 25%), thus reducing the required gating percentage and lowering the back pressure. Also in the same realm is turbocharging a 1HZ and not tuning it or adding any additional fuel. This is a big no no. When a boosted 1HZ engine is under load and running extremely lean (doesn't have the fuel required), it will generate heat the same as over fueling can. All be it, not on the same scale. Use the right gear as it was designed, tune your engine right and keep safe! A clear picture of why we don't use the 17020 turbine housing.
