25.01.2022 Irene's 70th birthday on the beach!! Photos with the 'Wobbetts" and others!

22.01.2022 Only a few down the beach today for our swim, maybe a few in recovery mode after yesterday's drinks for Irene's 70th.

22.01.2022 This Wobbegong trying some dips in the outback!!

22.01.2022 Most of us have been wondering about and admiring the colour of the waters of Jervis Bay, Moona Moona and Currambene Creeks. It has been suspected that there was some sort of algae in the bay, various theories suggested as to the cause. Seems we have had everything this year in the bay, ash and run off from the bushfires, flooding creeks with their muddy waters, jimble jellyfish, which we are very happy see now gone, a shark yesterday tracking a kayaker, very few fish, everyt...hing except the crystal clears waters we've become accustomed to. Julie has received some information which may shed some light on the algae in the bay. Julie's information is below : "Hi Robbie Yes it is most likely Coccolithophores. A beautiful microscopic algae that created the white cliffs of Dover. They have an amazing cover of calcareous shields. Marine Parks are getting UTS to identify the species. Best Pia Winberg Phyco Health Seaweed Science" This algae is of a calcium carbonate nature, chalk, which may help explain the milkiness of our bay. This morning though, the water was slightly clearer than past couple of days, hopefully starting to clear. And the water today a very pleasant 22.9degC, great for swimming. Hoping to get a little more information on this algae later in the week, University of Technology, Sydney now testing water samples from the bay.

20.01.2022 Wednesday today ! Jimbles today ! Go back North we say!!Wednesday today ! Jimbles today ! Go back North we say!!

20.01.2022 First day of the New Year and our first swim for the year. An overcast, cool morning but the water around 21.5degC. And a visitor, Emma, who has previously conquered the English Channel, who was very welcome. And a big thanks to all who supplied, fruit, cheeses, chocolates, coffee. And all hoping the Wobbegongs can, this year, have a Winter Swimming Season. Happy New Year to all.

18.01.2022 After the chaos with the long weekend crowds, it was good to have the beach to ourselves early today. Water temperature holding around 17.5degC, water clarity improving each day. A bit more sea life lately, a few rays, including yesterday, a large eagle ray, baitfish attracting the birds, dolphins.

16.01.2022 I need all the help I can get lol

16.01.2022 We had one of these circling our feet this morning, not quite as colourful, and we're hoping the shark we encountered was in fact a wobbegong, not something more threatening. Good to see the bay clearing up after recent east coast low and the water warmer, about 17.4degC at the buoy. Thanks Sally for the wobbegong photo.

14.01.2022 Although overcast, quite stunning colours out on the waters of the bay and Moona Moona Creek. Makes for a great morning swim.

13.01.2022 I like these words as this is what we do in winter..... After you've plunged into the icy seas and returned to shore with stuff red fingers and numb toes, there are few delights as sweet as sitting in the sun's light, soaking up the apricity,(the warmth of the sun) thawing down to the bone.

13.01.2022 Wobbies on the beach, aiming high, led by Jacqui

11.01.2022 With Husky Beach out of action after the recent heavy storms a few Wobbegongs swam this morning at Iluka Beach. Swimming out to the mooring buoys there were a few complaints about the water temperature, but further out the tempersture an almost balmy 17.5degC, plenty of cooler patches though. Back on the beach, in lovely sunshine, we enjoyed coffees, tea and a breakfast of various fruits and some good homemade bread, a great start to the day. Hoping our local beach starts to clear soon.

11.01.2022 Beautiful morning for a dip , go Wobbeygongs

09.01.2022 Congratulations to Will Blessing, 1st in age group, Sprint Race at Husky Triathalon held last weekend. Well done Will. In the photo, from left, Sally, Al, Richard, Will, Kym and Brian

06.01.2022 Happy birthday to one of the founding members 78 today Donny McCrae

06.01.2022 Wobbegongs Christmas Breakfast after a lovely morning swim - a great way to start the day. Thanks Steve for the sausage sandwiches and everyone for the yummy contributions.

06.01.2022 Another good reason to swim! Swimming in winter could help protect ageing brains from dementia A Cambridge study of an English winter swim squad found they had high levels of a "cold-shock" protein that could protect against brain-cell death.

05.01.2022 A beautifully warm morning at the beach. In close, the water around 14.5 degC, out at the buoy a lobely 17.4 degC. Never have we seen such a change in water temperatures, the buoy 330 metres offshore. Out past the buoy many baby sharks on the reefs then one rather larger shark gave us a nudge which sent us back towards the shoreline very quickly. Swimming back along the beach two wobbegong sharks swam beneath us, back to the south end of the beach and freezing water again. On the beach Irene asking Jacqui not to put her pants, she wanted to take some photos. That got a few laughs in the sunshine.

05.01.2022 A beautiful morning on Husky Beach for the final day of winter. The water slowly warming up, maybe we have seen the last of the cold waters for this season. And today, after so long, crystal clear waters. We are now all looking forward to spring, hoping the country gets on top of Covid and a return to more normal times.

04.01.2022 45 degree's in this bore bath at lightening ridge.!! I only just managed to breaststroke to the other side.

02.01.2022 So A cooked Wobbeygong in this artisan bath in Walgett.!!!
