21.01.2022 JCI is committed to providing learning and development opportunities to our members and the community. And this is a very special year for JCI Sydney as we have been able to connect one student from Australia to an international program organised by JCI Nagoya, our sister chapter. Georgia Jeffery is attending the 3G Project Global Network Gathering for the Next Generation. It is a great initiative promoted by JCI Nagoya which students from Japan, Philippines, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia learn how to create a concrete vision to succeed in the international society through basic international leadership and business training. They share their own cultural experiences and have the opportunity to form strong network and friendship with other students from different countries. Go for it Georgia, we are very proud of you!

We will be sharing ideas for action in the community soon. Register your interest at https://lnkd.in.../giRqkTx #worldcleanupday #jciaustralia #jcisydney See more
19.01.2022 Recycling should be about more than just throwing plastic in the recycling bin. It’s about giving thought to the everyday things you dispose of and how they can benefit someone else after they’re no longer useful for you. Cooking oil is a great example. Instead of pouring cooking oil down your sink drain, you can catch it with a reusable container and, once it’s filled in, take it to nearest oil disposal facility. There it can be turned into a variety of useful products. #5rsmovement #recycle #CookingOil #zerowaste
17.01.2022 Do you frequently buy lunch out? Our second suggestion for the first R Refuse is to bring your own lunch to work or uni to cut down on take away food plastic usage. Fast food companies have grown in Australia, but still use wasteful packaging which often doesn’t even get recycled. It might sound inconvenient to refuse fast food, but the mountains of waste really add up, and so do the expenses. Plus, it can help you create healthier habits. You can start by simply cuttin...g down on buying takeaway foods and bringing a reusable container with a healthy, simple meal. #jcisydney #zerowastemovement #5rsmovement #refuse #plasticpollution #refusewaste #sustainability See more
17.01.2022 JCI Sydney is excited to begin the 5 Rs initiative. We will give suggestions that encourage you to make small changes in your daily routine and manage your consumption and waste. This week we begin with the first R REFUSE. It means to simply avoid buying, or accepting for free, any products you don’t need. By refusing these products, we signal that we don’t approve of the carbon footprint, pollution, and material extraction involved in their wasteful production. Our first ...suggestion to refuse waste is simple: refuse the plastic bags offered at supermarket and grocery store cashiers. Instead, bring your own reusable bag. By doing this, you can save 500 bags of plastic from entering the ocean every year, as well as helping prevent the unnecessary energy-intensive production of plastic in the first place. #5Rsmovement #Refuse #Zerowastemovement See more
15.01.2022 JCI Sydney is thrilled to announce that Emory White has been elected 2021 JCI Australia President. Emory started her career in JCI in 2017 as a JCI Sydney Director, and it didn't take long for her to fall in love with this awesome organisation. Since then, she attended World Congresses and Area Conferences, assisted JCI Sydney with its growth and development, and since last year she's been part of JCI Australia Board. JCI Sydney recognises Emory White as a living example of how local members can grow in their careers and pave their path to achieve and do more for our communities. Congratulations Emory, we are very proud of you.
15.01.2022 Today we’ll introduce the second R in our 5 Rs Initiative Reduce. There will be many things you aren’t able to refuse, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t question what you purchase. Reduce means to limit our consumption of new or short-lived products, looking for ways to replace them with second hand or long lasting ones. For example, instead of buying cheap clothes that get replaced quickly, it might be wiser where possible to buy high quality products that last longer. Fast fashion is one of the primary reasons the fashion industry is the second largest polluter globally. So favouring clothes that last can help reduce its impact. #5rsmovement #refusewaste #zerowastemovement #sustainability #Reduce #ReduceWaste
13.01.2022 So far, our 5 Rs initiative has focused on what you can do to cut down waste before throwing items away whether it’s refusing, reducing, reusing or repurposing. The 5th and final R is about recycling what we can’t keep anymore. Although recycling still uses energy, water and chemicals, it's an important stage. Recycling helps lower our greenhouse gas emissions, conserve natural resources and reduce the amount of waste in landfills and oceans. Apart from cleaning containers..., bottles and other recyclable products before throwing them away, we will provide a few tips on how to go the extra mile and recycle what might otherwise just end up as junk. To start, if you have clothes you don’t wear and can’t reuse or repurpose them, take them to a store like H&M's where the fabric can be recycled to produce new outfits. H&M has been running a sustainable program to close the loop on fashion consumption by selling completely recycled garments. Think of the materials and energy we save when lots of us participate in this fashion revolution! #5rsmovement #recycle #zerowastemovement #5rs #sustainability #recycleclothes #jcisydney
13.01.2022 The applications for our Empower You Mentoring program are closing on Sunday (2 days!) - this is your last chance to be involved in our new program! 11.01.2022 This 19th of September, JCI Sydney took part in this amazing global initiative, the World Cleanup Day. With the aim of raising awareness towards the way we treat our environment, our members, friends and neighbor chapter JCI Illawarra united efforts to clean the margins of Cooks River in Kendrick Park here in Sydney. Special thanks to Catarina and Cooks River Alliance for all their support to make our initiative happen. Besides collecting rubbish from the floor, JCI Sydney is launching today its environmental campaign, the 5Rs Movement. The 5Rs (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle) suggest a few changes we can adopt to our everyday routine in order to go Zero Waste. Stay tuned and follow our daily tips here on Facebook and our other social media platforms. #JCI #jcisydney #environment #worldcleanupday2020

09.01.2022 With summer’s heat destined to arrive soon, you’ll no doubt want to have cold crisp water at the ready. So today’s repurposing suggestion is to keep your old wine bottles and use them as water containers in the fridge. This way you’ll not only always have cold water, but you’ll be saving the bottles from either ending up in a landfill or using up energy in the recycling process. #5rsmovement #repurpose #sustainability #zerowastemovement #jcisydney

07.01.2022 Watch this amazing video. Last year, JCI Sydney had the opportunity to watch and interact with this very same city model from Cooks Rivers Alliance, to understand how litter and other pollutants are carried away to Cooks River. It is our responsibility to be more conscious and prevent litter to get to the river. #WCD2020 #jcisydney #CooksRiverAlliance
07.01.2022 JCI Sydney is attending the JCI Euro-Asian Business Conference Today :-)
06.01.2022 How are you doing so far with the first R? Remember, to refuse doesn’t just mean to avoid buying things we don’t need, but also to stop accepting wasteful products for free. So our third suggestion to #Refuse waste is to remove yourself from junk mail lists and avoid receiving unaddressed advertising materials. This may seem like an insignificant decision, but millions of trees are cut down every year to produce junk mail that arrives in our letterboxes, while most of it is n...ever read. You can help to limit this huge waste by first putting a No Junk Mail sticker on your letterbox, then identifying what marketing materials and other items you don’t need to receive in paper, and switching to online versions. You can also do this for the paper bills you receive. #refuse #zerowastemovement #5rsmovement #jcisydney #sustainability #refusewaste
06.01.2022 People for the Planet. Lisa Erdle, PhD student in University of Toronto says that people who throw cigarette butts on the ground do not usually know that cigar...ette butts are made of plastic and are not biodegradable. There are thousands of cigarette butts everywhere, with rain they are washed into the waterbodies through storm holes and end up in nature. We are literally eating and drinking our litter, says Lisa. The city of Toronto, Canada decided to organize a campaign against cigarette butt litter in 2019, you can watch the video to find out how. Let’s Do It World hopes more and more authorities take action to help make our environment cigarette butt free. We invite everyone to join for #worldcleanupday on 19th of September and help pick up 1 billion #cigarettebutts. Together #WorldWithoutWaste is possible! #letsdoitworld https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ykcbbqsjGc
05.01.2022 Last night our National Liaison Emory White conducted a training session about Effective Meetings for JCI members in Australia. Great opportunity of learning and socializing for all of us. Thank you Emory for your passion and dedication.
04.01.2022 Perhaps the most important action you can take to refuse waste is to finally ditch plastic water bottles, replacing them with reusable bottles. Did you know at current rates, there’ll be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050? Let’s not make that happen. #5rsmovement #refusewaste #zerowastemovement #plasticpollution #oceanpollution #jcisydney #ditchplastic

04.01.2022 Zero-waste groceries shopping | Bulking buying is one of the best ways to eliminate unnecessary single-use plastics. In this case, it means buying food from bulk bins, using your own container. Once you find the nearest bulk food store/zero-waste store, the next step is to prepare your jars and bags and go ahead. Watch this short video and check how easy it is to buy groceries refusing the plastic packaging. https://youtu.be/RUB9LFylWxY
03.01.2022 A very inspiring story
03.01.2022 Do you have an old unused mobile phone lying around? Electronic waste is a serious environmental problem. Components like lead and cadmium threaten our soils and water, and yet over 90% of the materials in our phones can be recycled. Mobile Muster is the Australian phone industry's recycling program. It accepts any type of mobile phone and has hundreds of drop off points where you can take your old devices and happily send them to be recycled into batteries, stainless steel and more. You'll not only prevent toxic waste, but you'll be doing a huge favour to wildlife all over the world, because mining for phone materials comes with a heavy environmental cost. #recycle #5rsmovement #sustainability #MobileMuster #Zerowaste
