21.01.2022 TOUGH ANIMAL CRUELTY PENALTIES UNLEASHED Member for Albury Justin Clancy has today welcomed the NSW Government’s actions against those who harm animals by increasing its penalties for animal cruelty. Mr Clancy said the changes would see an up-to eight-fold increase to current penalties under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (POCTA).... There is not much more of a despicable act than harming, neglecting or interfering with our beloved animals, Mr Clancy said. Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall has announced that the NSW Government is set to dramatically ramp up punishments for animal cruelty offenders, and this is something I welcome. We know that most people in the region, and right across the State, do the right thing and look after their animals, but unfortunately there are some who don’t. Once passed, these laws will be the toughest set of penalties in the country. Anyone caught doing the wrong thing will now face dramatically increased financial penalties and Jail time. The proposed increases would introduce the following penalties: Cruelty increased from $5,500 fine (current) to $44,000 and/or 12 months’ imprisonment for individuals and $220,000 for corporations for each individual act of cruelty; Aggravated Cruelty increased from $22,000 fine (current) to $110,000 and/or 2 years’ imprisonment for individuals and $550,000 for corporations for each individual act; Fail to Provide Food & Shelter Increased from $5,500 fine (current) to $16,500 and/or six months’ imprisonment for individuals and $82,500 for corporations for each individual act. Mr Clancy said the changes come off the back of the NSW Government’s crackdown on illegal puppy factories announced last week. We will work with our enforcement agencies, the NSW Police, RSPCA and Animal Welfare League, to ensure these harsh new penalties are applied. I will be also speaking in NSW Parliament this week on a Government bill to include offences against animals such as family pets as part of the state’s domestic and family violence legislation.

20.01.2022 If you live in Greater Sydney, regional or rural NSW you are encouraged to limit your mobility. If you must travel, it’s important to be prepared before you he...ad off. Remember, with the ongoing risk of COVID-19 community transmission, it’s vital that if you have any COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are mild, visit your nearest testing clinic at https://www.nsw.gov.au//how-to-protect-yourself-an/clinics and isolate until you get a negative COVID-19 test result. These holidays, stay COVID safe and don’t forget to be prepared if you have to travel. For more information: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//covid-19/Pages/holidays.aspx

Weather Situation: Severe thunderstorms may produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Orange, Moree, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Albury, Cobar and Broken Hill. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 7:00 pm.

The Premier of New South Wales, the Hon Gladys Berejiklian MP, and the Premier of Victoria, the Hon Daniel Andrews MP, have signed the Memorandum confirming the NSW and Victorian Governments’ commitment to strengthen ...cross-border collaboration between the two states. This agreement is the inaugural Memorandum of Understanding between the jurisdictions which is specifically designed to address cross-border issues. 09.01.2022 Justin Clancy MP with James Fallon High Principal Jenny Parrett, on the Opening of the $10 million dollar Hall at James Fallon High School

08.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon was a real buzz for me. The little community of Ournie was heavily impacted by the bushfires at the start of the year - smack bang in the middle of both the Green Valley & Dunn’s Road fires. Several weeks ago I met with the community & they told me of their hopes of replacing the old school that served as their community hall with a new community hub. ... It was pretty special then to go back to Ournie yesterday afternoon with Julia Ham Snowy Valleys Council to let them know we have secured bushfire recovery funds from the NSW & Commonwealth governments to realise their dream of the community hub. Here’s cheers to a gem of a little community & the rebuilding of their community hub!

07.01.2022 Our HSC students will be sitting their exams very shortly. The community stands by you, and your teachers and parents stand by you. Give your best, but know that we are proud of your efforts in what has been a challenging year. The perseverance we have seen from the Class of 2020 to get to this point has been astounding and my best wishes go to all students.

06.01.2022 I’ve just been to a media release here at Parliament House to hear RSPCA CEO Steve Coleman & NSW Agriculture Minister Adam Marshall MP announce a crackdown on illegal puppy factories. As a vet I can speak of the beautiful bond between pet & owner. I can also speak for many good breeders who do the right thing. This announcement today supports those who do the right thing and focuses on taking action against cowboy breeders who do not care for animal welfare.

03.01.2022 Given the general risk in Greater Sydney, new measures are required to reduce the transmission potential of COVID-19 while maintaining economic activity. The following measures for Greater Sydney (including Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains) are effective from midnight tonight; - Face masks will be mandatory in the following indoor settings: shopping (retail, supermarkets and shopping centres)... - Public/shared transport, indoor entertainment (including cinemas and theatres) - Places of worship, hair and beauty premises. - Face masks will also be mandatory for all staff in hospitality venues and casinos and for patrons using gaming services. Compliance will start from Monday, 4 January 2021 with $200 on the spot fines for individuals for non-compliance. Children under 12 are exempt but are encouraged to wear masks where practicable. People are still encouraged to limit non-essential gatherings and reduce their mobility where possible to further minimise the risk of transmission in the community. Whilst these measures do not apply to areas outside Greater Sydney (including Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains), we urge all residents and visitors across the State to practise COVID safe behaviours and get tested even if symptoms are mild. We thank the community for their patience and understanding. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/default.aspx
