25.01.2022 If the government is impressed with New Zealands record suppressing COVID 19, then it should be doubly so with Viet Nam. Confirmed cases: 326 Recovered : 272 Deaths: 0... New Zealand. Confirmed cases: 1154 confirmed cases - almost 4 times as many as Viet Nam Recovered: 1461 Deaths: 21 As a tour company with two decades of experience in travel to Viet Nam we have seen the country deal with communicable infections such as SARS, H5N1 Bird Flu, and the H1N1 Swine flu with efficiency and efficacy. We know they know how to protect citizens and visitors alike. If the government is considering opening travel to New Zealand on the basis of its record suppressing the COVID 19 virus, then on the basis of the evidence, it should also give consideration to opening up Viet Nam. Viet Nam is not only a good friend to Australia, but also has an outstanding health record, and is an ideal warm location that is extremely popular with Australians.

24.01.2022 The beautiful but rather shallow H Lk in k Lk Province near the town of Liên Sn. It sits on the road between Buôn Ma Thut and à Lt. At about 6 square kilometres, it is the biggest lake in the Province and the second biggest in Vit Nam. The people around the lake are mainly M'Nông ethnic minoritiy. The work the lake and grow crops like coffee. But their specialty dish is a frieds fish with a stunning aroma.

23.01.2022 The so-called Red River Delta is actually made up of three large rivers the Red, Clear and Black. The main river is the Sông Hng or Red river - this picture explains its name -it has its source in Yu Nan China. As it meanders through the delta, it breaks into the Sông Lô - the Clear River - and the Sông à, the Black River. There is a huge volume of water in the system and summers in northern Vit Nam can be humid in the delta. Until the à was dammed near Hoa Bình floods were regular in the west season. That gave rise to the dike system around and near Hà Ni and seen here in this photo.

23.01.2022 The interior of Cát Bà Island off the coast of Hi Phòng. This is a really lovely alternative to a couple of nights on H Long Bay. The island has a National Park, some very pretty modern resorts, and you can take day trips on the Bay to see the limestone carsts.

22.01.2022 Some of the foods available in the à Lt Market. Shredded dried squid, dried beef or venison fine shredded, hazelnuts, cashews, dried pressed squid, pumpkin seeds, and various teas.

22.01.2022 An abandoned bunker dating back to the American War in Vit Nam. It is situated on Hi Vân Pass just north of à Nng in central Vit Nam. This picture explains graphically the reason the pass has its name - Sea Mist.

22.01.2022 On 6 June 1969, D Coy 5RAR engaged a 1 Bn 33 Regt in a three-day battle in the village of Bình Ba in the then Province of Phc Tuy. In what has been described as a landmark battle of the Australian involvement in Viet Nam, D Coy, with the support of the Ist Armoured Regiment and the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, cleared the enemy from the village and restored nominal government control. In house to house fighting, the Australians killed 107 Vietnamese, wounded 6 and captured 8. The Australians lost 1 killed in action and 10 were wounded. After the war, the 33 Regiment PAVN, erected a monument on the site of the village school where the Australians had buried more than 50 Vietnamese dead in a common grave.

22.01.2022 One of the many small but amazingly beautiful creatures you will see as you walk around the Cát Tiên National Park north of H Chí Minh City. We encourage our guests to stay at the Forest Floor Lodge inside the Park where the highly knowledgable staff are able to explain almost all the flora and fauna you will encounter.

22.01.2022 The remarkable Phát Dim Cathedral in Ninh Bình Province in northern Vit Nam. At one time the Bishop of this diocese was a law unto himself. Almost all the population was Catholic. Neither the French Government nor the Vit Minh had any control over what happened in this area.

21.01.2022 Currently in Vit Nam? Here's a chance to see the North West of Vit Nam by bike. Contact us or direct to Kim Trang Dao for a great ride in wonderful countryside.

19.01.2022 A beautiful waterfall in the Central Highlands (Tay Nuyên) on Route 14, the official H Chí Minh Trail, heading out of Buôn Ma Thut towards Gia Nghiã. This photograph was taken in the dry season. Imagine how dramatic this waterfall would be in the wet.

18.01.2022 The rice Plains of Ngh An Province as seen from the mountain where H Chí Minh's mother is buried. Ngh An is a poor province and life there is hard. That may account for why so many revolutionaries came from Ngh An.

18.01.2022 Visitors to this house in à Lt call it The Crazy House. It is the product of Vietnamese architect ng Vit Nga. Ms Nga received a PHD in architecture from Moscow University. The house has been a life-long project for Ms Nga which she says is completely based on nature. Only in Vit Nam could you build such a house. It defies every building regulation known in the west. The house's Vietnamese name is Hng Nga or Moonlight Houses. Ms Nga's name is also the word used for Russia where she obtained her architectural qualifications. Ms Nga is also the daughter of one of Vit Nam's most famous early revolutionaries, Trng Chinh. She maintains an area in the house to venerate her father and his part in Vit Nam's revolution.

17.01.2022 A local marine services operator at An Thi Town, Phú Quc Island. This man carries goods or people out to boats moored in the bay. Phú Quc Island is famous for its Nc Mm or Fish Sauce and for the fact that it once had a camp that housed some 20,000 Prisoners of War.

17.01.2022 One of several shrines in the Cham Hindu Temple complex in Nha Trang. The Cham ethnic minority in the region have remained followers of Hinduism. In other parts of Vit Nam, particularly in areas around Phan Rang, some Cham converted to Islam. In the face of Vietnamese (Kinh) conquest of their lands, some of these people escaped to the western delta where they remain to this day.

17.01.2022 The tranquil Crocodile Lake deep in the interior of Cát Tiên National Park in ng Nai Province. Yes, there are crocs there, along with birds, bugs, and beautiful flora. Once part of the infamous War Zone D (Chin Khu ) it is now a peaceful place of refuge where bears and gibbons are rehabilitated and the wildlife is being scientifically studied.

16.01.2022 A look at Baria Province and Vung Tau City.

16.01.2022 The traditional way of making a coracle is to dig a deep round hole and pour hot coals into it. Then the shipwright takes a mat of super-saturated woven bamboo strips, places it in the hole, and covers it with rocks and sand. After a period of time, the woven bamboo is removed from the hole. By now it is in roughly the semi-circular shape of the coracle. Bamboo stips are lashed around the top to stabalise the shape and reinforcing rods of bamboo are placed across the craft for further strength. Finally, pitch is applied to the exterior of the craft. But you will see in this photo the exterior does not have pitch. It has been sealed with fibre glass resin. Some of these new coracles are made entirely of fibre glass.

15.01.2022 Going home after a full day's outing at the Perfume Pagoda or Chùa Hng. The Pagoda is actually a collection of shrines hidden deep in the Hng Tích Mountains. It is accessible only by river and is hugely popular with tourists. Needless to say, visiting can be a bit tacky with so many people crowding the sites. So pick your times. The complex is in Hng Sn Commune, M c District, of what used to be Hà Tây Province but is now part of the greater Hà Ni.

14.01.2022 On 2 September 1945, the same day the Japanese signed the surrender documents in Tokyo Bay, H Chí Minh addressed a crowd at Ba ình Square, Hà Ni, where his mausoleum now stands. After a few short sentences, H, who is said to have had a rustic Central Vietnamese accent, stopped and asked the crowd Can you hear me clearly, compatriots? The cry came back Yes we hear you!. H went on to declare Vit Nam independent. In Sài Gòn, the Provisional Southern Region Administrati...ve Committee organised a march down Lê Dun Street, the broad avenue that runs from the Zoo to the what was then the Norodom Palace and is now the famous Independence Palace. The march ended in a mass gathering around loudspeakers to hear H Chí Minh deliver the declaration of independence from Hà Ni. The country was now reunified but not for long. While we celebrate the anniversary of end of the Second World War on this day, fighting continued across South East Asia for years to come. The Dutch and the English fought in Indonesia before finally recognising its independence in 1949. India and Burma also shook off their colonial masters. And the Malays and Chinese business interests did a deal with Britain that saw them gain independence in 1959. Vit Nam continued its fight for independence and unity until 1975. Today is also the 51st Anniversary of the death of H Chí Minh. If legend is correct, it will rain in Vit Nam today as the heavens shed tears on this anniversary.

14.01.2022 Adherents worshiping The Black Lady in the Marble Mountain Grotto. There are several shrines in the grotto but the Black Lady shrine is probably the oldest. It pre-dates Buddhism and has been appropriated like many local deities in places all around Vit Nam.

13.01.2022 High on the headland to the north of Phan Thit are some historical vestiges rarely visited by tourists heading for the resort area of Mu Né. The area is clearly very suitable for military activity and there are vestiges of the French - a high tower - and the American War - some low bunkers. There's also a memorial to an attack on the French position. The Vietnamese describe the attack on their Memorial. "HERE On 14 June 1947, Hoang Hoa Tham Company of 82 Binh Thuan Regime...nt ambushed and completely destroyed the Ông Hoang high point. Thirty-five enemy were killed or captured, enemy weapons systems were seized along with war materiel including a Vickers Machine Gun. This was just one of many symbolic battles of the Armed Forces of Binh Thuan during 9 years of resistance against the French colonial invaders."

13.01.2022 A different look at the Australian involvement.

13.01.2022 One of several shrines inside the grotto in Marble Mountain, outside à Nng, Qung Nam Province, in central Vit Nam. The mountain is one of five considered to be of special geomantic meaning. The mountains are actually called Ng Hành which means the Five Sacred Elements.

10.01.2022 The monkeys line up to greet visitors on Monkey Island in Cn Gi just south of H Chí Minh City. As cute as these little creatures may appear to be, maintain social distancing because they will steal your sunglasses or camera or even scratch you. Their little finger nails are full of nasty bugs and can cause bad infections.

09.01.2022 A Hindu Dancer balancing an earthenware pot takes part in a traditional celebration at the Tháp Bà - Ponagar, in Nha Trang City. The region is famous for its dry brick towers erected by the local Cham ethnic minority and for a balmy climate with little rain. Nha Trang has been a tourist city since colonial times.

07.01.2022 Catholics make up only ten percent of the Vietnamese population but they have had a big impact on the history of the nation. Most Catholics are very committed to their religion and have substantial family altars in their homes. This shop which supplies iconography is located near the Church of our Lady of Fatima in H Chí Minh City.

06.01.2022 Known as the Round House, the water tower in Bà Ra Town was built by the French and incorporates an office at the base of the structure. On 28 May 1945, the Vit Mình's revolutionary flag was raised on top of the tower as tens of thousands of people gathered in the square in front of it. It was the start of the Vit Mình's seizure of power in what became known as the August Revolution. The town market was situated in the square in front of the tower. Many Australian troops went there to buy folding chairs and souveniers during the time they occupied the Núi t Base. on 1 May 1975, the Town People's Coimmittee organised a meeting in front of the tower to welcome the success of the revolution and the "complete liberation of the nation". In 1987, the Water Tower was listed as a National Historical Vestige.

06.01.2022 Not much to say really........

06.01.2022 Hoa L in Ninh Bình Province in northern Vit Nam. This is just one of a couple of shrines in the area which was capital during the first dynasties of the independent Vit Nam after they threw off the yoke of Chinese rule in 911CE. The country was then called i C Vit the first of some dozen names the country has been known by. Ninh Bình is a beautiful province to visit. There's plenty of places to visit and quality accommodation.

03.01.2022 When you are in the uplands town of Buôn Ma Thuôt make sure you drop by the Trung Nguyen Coffee Centre. Run by the ubiquitous coffee company, the centre shows of their best coffee. The coffee you come across in their franchised coffee shops my not be the best, they have some special roasts which are outstanding. And they are available at the coffee centre. Lovely place to have a warming drink in the coool ulpnds.

01.01.2022 The Lighthouse on a small island just off Cape Kê Gà, south of Phan Thit in Bình Thun Province. Built by the French out of local sandstone, it is possible to camp overnight on the island and enjoy the fabulous views of the coast from the tower. But be warned, the facilities are a bit basic, even by Vetnamese standards.

01.01.2022 On 3 September 1950,the US' Military Assistance Advisory Group Vietnam (MAAG) arrived in Sài Gòn to assist the French in the First Indochina War. Not sent as combat troops, they were to supervise French use of $10 million worth of US military equipment to fight the Viet Minh. By 1954, the US was underwriting about 80 percent of the French War in Vit Nam. This is the first MAAG Headquarters at 660 Trn Hng o Street. Later, the building was used as the Korean Forces' Headquarters. In recent years, this historic building was torn down.
