22.01.2022 Find out what Andrew Robinson, one of the founders in residence at the JCU Ideas Lab, has to say about artificial intelligence. A fascinating insight into how technology is evolving in ways you may not have been aware of. Andrew is Chair of Earth Guardians and founder of QuestaGame, an award-winning mobile adventure game that gets players outdoors, learning about, monitoring and helping protect their environment

21.01.2022 The air was a bit tense at the JCU Ideas Lab today with an assessment for Innovation Driven Entrepreneurship taking place 'Dragon's Den' style in a very dark room in front of some very serious looking (but secretly friendly) people. Developed by Lecturer Roy Wybrow a decade ago, course BX3173 has evolved over the years as business models such as Eric Ries and Ash Mauryas' lean movement, and Bill Aulet’s disciplined entrepreneurship, have vastly changed thinking and approaches.... The assessment has always been about creating an innovative solution that solves a problem which a sufficiently large homogenous group need, and will value. All the students have to do is prove it and then pitch it in front of a panel of entrepreneurs and community business people. Sound relaxing? Didn't think so... This year the panel consisted of Lesley Van Staveren (A mentor with YEP Entrepreneurship Facilitators Cairns, and successful business leader); Joe Salerno (ANZ Regional Manager North Queensland Small Business Banking); Ben Murphy (ANZ Relationship Manager North Queensland) and Keith Sue (Innovation Facilitator of the JCU Ideas Lab). Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you to our wonderful panel for your valuable feedback and support. #jcuideaslab #JCU #studentlife

21.01.2022 There is plenty of activity happening within the walls of the JCU Ideas Lab, a lot of which is food related (one of our favourite subjects!). Escavox and Farmer Meets Foodie North Queensland are both applying innovative technology in the food industry to increase quality as well as access, to produce. Check out this article in the Cairns Post to find out more

14.01.2022 The JCU Ideas Lab was buzzing with life last week when She Maps and their six work experience students, got to find out more about how drones are used to capture data. Only 1 in 5 graduates in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths), are female. The work experience program aims to help close that gap and challenge stereotypes. #jcuideaslab #JCU

12.01.2022 What's the 'peak body' complex? Andrew Robinson from Earth Guardians explores this subject and discusses innovation blindness. What do you think? #jcuideaslab

08.01.2022 The Engineering Link program connects senior high school students with professional engineers and academics. In this activity, students learned about the electronics design process at the Maker's Space in the JCU Ideas Lab building. After finding out how circuit boards are designed, they were shown some examples from the actual design projects completed by second year JCU engineering students. ... The high school students then soldered a board and finally, wrote software to control it. The project was a grid of LEDs, similar to the circuity that would be used in signage or lighting. This design was also equipped with joysticks and buttons so it could be used to make simple games. A great day of fun and learning was had by all! #JCU #JamesCookUniversity #jcuideaslab
