19.01.2022 Treasurer Frydenberg has hinted at accelerating already legislated tax cuts in attempt to boost the ailing economy. The tax cuts are to be introduced from 1 July 2022. The cuts will move the upper threshold of the 19 per cent income tax bracket from $41,000 to $45,000, and the threshold for the 32.5 per cent tax bracket moved from $90,000 to $120,000. In addition, from 1 July 2024, the 32.5 per cent and 37 per cent tax brackets will be abolished, with a 19 per cent tax rate... for those earning between $18,201 and $45,000, 30 per cent for incomes between $45,000 and $200,000, and 45 per cent as the highest rate for incomes above $200,000. 14.01.2022 Accountant lobbying bodies have written to the Treasurer, urging for an expansion of the carry-back loss rules, as many small businesses are ineligible. The rule currently only allows eligible companies to carry back a tax loss for the 2020-2022 tax years and apply it against tax paid in a previous tax year, up to the 2019 tax year. This rule excludes sole traders, partnerships and trusts from applying the losses, which are very common structures for small businesses. It may... exclude up to 2/3rds of small businesses.
