21.01.2022 The ACT Greens want Canberra to rival the world’s best cities for building quality development and ‘green’ infrastructure. 20.01.2022 Facebook memories have a way of putting things into perspective. Ten years ago today I was technically homeless, drowning in unsecured debt and working two jobs - in a clothes shop by day and delivering pizzas by night. I was so broke, I remember having to stash my car in my Dad’s garage at night to save it from getting repossessed. ... Today, I’m your ACT Greens Member for Brindabella in the ACT Legislative Assembly. I’m six months into the job and I’m loving it. I still pinch myself everyday that I’ve been blessed with the privilege to serve. But there is no denying it’s been a steep learning curve. See, I left school early and got straight into working full time as soon as I could. My diverse work experience has prepared me for many things, but leaving school early has also left me a little behind the eight ball in some aspects. I was so aware and overwhelmed by all that I did not know. My team and I have been working hard over the last six months to meet with every single group, business, organisation and constituent who’s been kind enough to share who they are, what the issues are and how I can help. We’ve learnt so much and we’re so grateful. The biggest thing I’ve learnt? Being a politician is a lot less about ‘knowing’ and a lot more about ‘listenting’. I think one of the biggest problems politicians have is thinking they know. They don’t. Teachers know. Nurses know. Business owners know. Carers know. Parents know. Students know. People in the community with their rich diversity of experience - they’re the ones who know. People who are living in poverty, pay cheque to pay cheque and homeless - sure as hell they know too. The other thing I’ve learnt? Listening and being prepared to act on what you hear - that’s what this job is about. It’s not hard. It’s actually pretty simple really. I share this story because I know the me of ten years ago today would not have believed that this would be my life. ‘Believe in yourself’ sounds so cliché. It’s also impossible to believe when you’re in a tough spot. But if you’re finding yourself in a tough spot, I believe in you. I believe in you because I know how much your life can change in ten years.

19.01.2022 While some are already playing mean and dirty, some are shouting each other coffee! Thanks Cathy Day for Brindabella! It’ll be a long 3 weeks, so let’s keep each other caffeinated

19.01.2022 The ACT Greens know that it’s time to end the disproportionate incarceration rate of First Nations People, and we’re setting a target of doing this in the ACT by 2030. The Greens are taking the smarter approach to the criminal justice system, accelerating our nation-leading Justice Reinvestment commitments with a $20 million package for the next four years. Justice Reinvestment is a community-focussed, evidence-led approach that shifts funds away from building bigger prisons... and instead invests in vulnerable communities to address underlying causes of crime and keep our community safer, over the long term. Our Justice Reinvestment programs will work to bring Indigenous incarceration rates in line with non-Indigenous incarceration rates by 2030. 18.01.2022 Now, more than ever, our communities need places where they can come together, and sport is a critical part of that story. The ACT Greens want to create a city that encourages and facilitates as much community sport as possible. So we have a plan for:... Building a new multi-purpose indoor sports centre in the Woden Town Centre Progressing the Stromlo Forest Park Masterplan Investing in making the ACT a premier MTB destination Reviewing ACT Government Sport and Recreation Grants to improve transparency A new competition standard Half Pipe, and a Skatepark in Dickson Providing women specific swimming times for all ACT Government owned public pools Walking and cycling infrastructure improvements Repairing our waterways to improve water quality for our recreational lake water users Park, playground, water fountain and exercise equipment installation and upgrades Read more on our plans for better community sports in Canberra greens.org.au/act/community-sport-and-recreation

15.01.2022 We have announced plans to transition over time to a clean, green, all-electric Canberra, with the goal of making the ACT ‘fossil fuel gas free’ by 2040. So-called ‘natural’ gas is a polluting fossil fuel and contributes 22% of the ACT’s total greenhouse gas emissions. At a time of climate emergency, we must transition away from gas and get to zero net emissions or we will face the catastrophic consequences of irreversible global warming. The ACT Greens have a plan to put our... climate first, today announcing a series of climate action commitments, including: A $20 million financial support program to assist businesses and residents who have existing gas connections to transition to efficient electric appliances. Ruling out greenfield gas connections in new suburbs from 2021. An intensive 2 year transition program working with industry and the community to end new infill gas connections from 2023, including an all-electric Molonglo commercial centre. New support for community scale battery storage and microgrids. Delivering a 10 year pathway to shift to world’s best practice on climate-ready and environmentally-sustainable buildings and planning. 14.01.2022 A message from Shane Rattenbury MLA.

13.01.2022 When building light rail to Woden, why stop there? Why not include Phillip and tie into the Park & Ride at Mawson to unlock the benefits across southern Canberra? The ACT Greens think there is a strong case to be made for extending light rail to Mawson as part of Stage 2, with the goal of having light rail to Mawson commence operation at the same time or shortly after the opening of light rail from the City to Woden Town Centre.... 05.01.2022 Rise and shine Tuggeranong! Voting starts TODAY! Don’t forget: Vote 1 Johnathan DAVIS for Brindabella

05.01.2022 Canberra has a bit of a gas problem! But no need to see a doctor; the ACT Greens have the prescription to help us reach a clean, green gas-free future. Fossil-fuel gas contributes 22% of the ACT's greenhouse gas emissions, and is increasingly sourced from coal seam gas fracking.... We need to get off gas, and the ACT Greens have a plan to make it happen. While gas was used as a transition fuel over the past decade, now is the time to responsibly, but fairly rapidly, phase it out. With 100% renewable electricity now in the ACT we're in a great position to achieve this by 2040 - and the Greens have a sensible plan to get it underway. We need to stop building new buildings with gas connections: instead they can be all-electric and zero emissions, using solar, batteries, and smart designing. We also need to transition existing gas use over to electric alternatives. Our initiative contains a $20M fund to start helping residents and businesses make the switch to efficient electric alternatives as their gas appliances reach their end of life. Not only will this help tackle climate change, it will save on energy costs, and it will establish the ACT as the national leader in zero-emissions building and development. That's the kind of green industry we want in Canberra as we Build a Better Normal! Read more greens.org.au//all-electric-canberra-plan-greens-put-our-c
