22.01.2022 YOU CAN GO ON HOLIDAY IN REGIONAL VICTORIA!!! Beauchamp Falls in the Otways is one of the beautiful places we can visit from midnight tonight (thanks for the great photo Kylie Farley). As of tomorrow:... Restaurants, cafes and pubs can open for predominantly outdoor dining, with limits on the number of customers. Groups of customers are limited to ten people. Businesses will be able to serve customers outdoors, with a cap of 50 seated customers per venue, and an updated two square metre density limit in place. Indoors, venues can open with a cap of ten seated customers per space with up to two spaces per venue and in line with the existing four square metre density rule. Tables must be spaced at least 1.5 metres apart, cleaned after every customer and the details of all customers must be kept. There are no restrictions on reasons to leave home or the distance you can travel across regional Victoria. Groups of up to ten people will be able to meet up outdoors. This does not include children under 12 months of age. You can go on holiday in regional Victoria. This includes being able to book accommodation with the people you live with, your intimate partner, or the household you have formed a bubble with. People who live in metropolitan Melbourne cannot go on holiday. There are more details at https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/third-step-regional-victoria-co

21.01.2022 Dr Fairbank is a well respected local doctor, expert in palliative care. If you are faced with difficult end of life decisions, this workshop is not to be missed.

20.01.2022 IN OUR BACKYARD Jellie Mc revisits the Great Ocean Walk. This time our view is towards the closed Gellibrand River mouth, on the track from Devils Kitchen.... The sea-fog tries its hardest to shroud the track, but the beauty of the Princetown coastline prevails. We are spoilt for choice in the South West.

20.01.2022 The Team at Jellie McDonald have been surviving isolation by balancing work life & home schooling with fresh air and exercise. Whether it be raking leaves with our little helper or kayaking on the Merri (now that restrictions have eased to allow this). We hope all our customers are staying strong and safe and remind you we are just a phone call away for any of your legal or conveyancing needs.

19.01.2022 MELBOURNE & WARRNAMBOOL - SNAKES & LADDERS Recent reports indicate that the Melbourne property market is cooling, whist anecdotal reports paint a rosy view of the Warrnambool property market. It would be a rare occurrence for regional prices to rise whilst the capital city falls, but given the huge disparity, we many now see a narrowing of the gap in prices between the city & the bush.

16.01.2022 Another Christmas party done and dusted. A wonderful end to a wonderful year. Looking forward to seeing you all in 2018.

14.01.2022 JEANS FOR GENES DAY Today we support Jeans for Genes with a scrumptious morning tea and donations to a worthy cause #jeansforgenesau

13.01.2022 COVID RESTRICTIONS TO EASE As of Monday, restrictions in regional Vic ease; a little. We are still under a limited lockdown; for example our work restriction remains that we must work from home if possible. Socially, the restrictions are: ... 1. Public gatherings - up to 5 people from a maximum of two households can meet outdoors for social interaction (infants under 12 months of age are not included in the cap). 2. People living alone or single parents can nominate one person with whom they can form a social bubble (single social bubble). A single social bubble allows you to visit each other for social interaction. In regional Victoria you can only form a bubble with someone in regional Victoria, not metropolitan Melbourne. If the person you nominate to be in your bubble lives with other people, you can only visit if they are at home alone. Alternatively, they can visit you at home. 3. Single parents with dependents who cannot be left alone will be allowed to include their dependents in the bubble. 4. Professional respite care for people with complex needs is allowed. Specific details can be found here (scroll down to the heading "Regional Victoria": https://www.vic.gov.au/second-step-coronavirus-road-to-reco See more

13.01.2022 DODGY EMAILS Today our office and clients have received emails from a firm titled KING & WOOD MALLESONS SOLICITORS. Do not open the email & delete it. Whilst KING & WOOD MALLESONS SOLICITORS are a legitimate legal firm, the email that we and clients have received is a hoax.... It seems scammers are holding themselves out as legal firms, therefore any emails from legal firms that you do not deal with, should be treated with caution. Of course, if you receive emails from any source you are unfamiliar with, it is wise to disregard.

12.01.2022 AMBO ATTACKERS TO GET JUST DESSERTS The law will be amended in Victoria so that violent attacks on ambulance officers will be treated akin to murder or rape. The law will state that anyone who injures a police officer, paramedic or other emergency services worker would face jail. ... Too often the front line to the public take the force of messed up angry people. Whether that be nurses at our public hospitals, teachers or the police. The people who support us deserve the full protection of the law. This law change seems to only apply to emergency service workers. Of course the usual assault laws apply in all other instances. Lets hope that this can in some way stop such shocking incidents.

12.01.2022 SUPPORTING A BIG LIFE This weekend, in perfect conditions, the Murray2Moyne was held. Moyne Health Services pull off an amazing event each year, in which many teams, mainly from the regions, ride from the Murray River to Port Fairy to fundraise for health related causes. Jellie McDonald supported the Warrnambool Lattes, who are fundraising for A Big Life, a local grassroots organisation operating out of Warrnambool College, Brauer College & Woodford Primary School, which ai...ms to destigmatise mental health issues and tool the next generation with resilience and coping skills, so necessary in todays demanding world. Its not so easy being a kid these days, and we are delighted to help out such a worthy organisation.

11.01.2022 We have 2 job vacancies with our firm, if one of these positions is of interest to you then please apply. See below for further details ...

11.01.2022 AIRBNB PARTY HOUSES OUTLAWED The Victorian government has introduced laws with a big stick should short stay accommodation properties be used for unruly parties. The laws only apply to apartments governed by an owners corporation.... The laws give the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) the power to stop the renting out of short-stay apartments that have been used for unruly parties. VCAT will also be able to fine guests up to $1,100 for making unreasonable noise, causing a health or security hazard, damaging common property or obstructing a resident from using their property. Hosts whose properties are used for unruly parties could also be forced to pay their neighbours up to $2,000 in compensation.

10.01.2022 Thanks to family, friend, clients & everyone that supported Relay for Life on the weekend. We had a wonderful time supporting such a touching and worthwhile cause. Glad to be a part of this amazing event.

09.01.2022 WARNING!!!! DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL REQUESTS! It seems some agents have been hacked. Being hacked online is an issue we all face. Whenever you are asked to make a payment in an email, take every step possible to confirm the destination of the payment. In the case of paying a deposit on a house, ring the agent and confirm the account details over the phone.... Hackers will always be a step or two ahead of us, but if we keep our antenna up, with a good dose of skepticism and common sense, we should be able to limit their damage.

09.01.2022 THE SUNS ABOUT TO SET ON SUNSET CLAUSES With plenty of new residential developments in the South West, most contracts for new developments contain sunset clauses, enabling the developer to end the contract if the subdivision is not approved within a set time, usually 18 or 24 months. In Melbourne, where land prices have sky rocketed, developers have ended contracts, shattering purchasers dreams, who have waited years for the land to be developed, only to have to find new la...nd at a higher price. It seems the state government will legislate to stop this practice, allowing the developer only to invoke the sunset clause with the purchasers agreement. This is not yet law, so if you are buying off the plan, get good advice on whether your contract contains a sunset clause.

09.01.2022 WHO WANTS TO SHARE THEIR HOME WITH THE GOVERNMENT? The Vic Government is set to implement their policy of shared home ownership. Warrnambool is a designated location whereby first home buyers on a low income can take advantage of the new scheme. The article below points out:... The shared equity scheme, known as HomesVic, targets single first-home buyers earning an annual income of less than $75,000 and couples earning less than $95,000. The state government announced it would co-purchase up to 400 properties, taking an equity share of up to 25 per cent of each home When the properties are sold, the government would then recover its share of the equity. The $50-million initiative aims to make it easier for first-home buyers to enter the market by reducing the size of their loan, hence reducing the amount they need to save for a deposit.

09.01.2022 We have 2 job vacancies within our firm, if one of these positions is of interest to you then please apply. See below for further details ...

08.01.2022 THURSDAY - A DAY OF REST, NO! A DAY OF RACING!! In case you hadnt heard, the horses are in town, making a splash in Lady Bay and racing at the Warrnambool Racecourse. Kylie had an early start this morning, capturing a chilled out horse, most likely contemplating its winning moves in tomorrows Grand Annual. ... If you are in town, enjoy the day, at the races or at home. We will re-open on Friday.

05.01.2022 IN OUR BACKYARD Not far down the Great Ocean Road is a world class walk. The Great Ocean Walk is a cracker. You can take all week walking from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles, or a few hours taking in the stunning views between Princetown & the Twelve Apostles.... Such a treat in our backyard.

05.01.2022 Today marks the 20 year Anniversary of Jellie McDonald Solicitors, and oh how time flies! Thank you to all our loyal clients and heres to many more.

04.01.2022 CUP EVE - DOWN THE STREET Warrnambool is febrile with racing fever. Our own white night is on display on the wall of the Whalers. ... The police are on the beat on four hooves and if youre a morning person you can always get down to Lady Bay tomorrow and watch the stars splash over a morning coffee.

04.01.2022 HAPPY EASTER The Jellie Mc staff have been busy raiding the easter bunnys nest and putting together some fantastic easter choccy hampers for our Easter raffle. The raffle raised $287.00 for Southwest Healthcares Xray machine appeal.... Well done team!!

03.01.2022 LIEBIG QUARRY The frenzy of activity in Liebig Street recently crept south, with plans for the top end of the restaurant block to be completed by May Races and then action to start at the Timor Street end. Anecdotally we have reports that traders are going along OK. ... Lets keep supporting our local businesses, the lifeblood of the town. We will keep you posted with photos of the development.

03.01.2022 WHO GETS THE FARM? Large working assets can be difficult to deal with in a Will in a fair way. We often deal with clients who have worked long & hard to create a significant land holding, only to be emotionally torn later in life when making the decision how to distribute their hard earned assets among the family.... Fairness often depends on whos making the assessment. In family situations objectivity can be difficult. The article below looks at the role gender plays and how that often, it is the daughters who miss out.

03.01.2022 FEDERAL COURT TO HEAR VACCINATION ARGUMENTS Family break ups often see the most trifling and equally the most important of issues argued, squabbled over. In the Federal Court a current case is hearing which parent has the right to determine whether a child is or is not vaccinated. ... It would not be surprising if vaccination becomes a family law hot topic as peoples opinions strengthen on the vaccination argument.

03.01.2022 ST PATS DAY FIRE DESTRUCTION Below is a link to a great article about our local stoic farmers. Brave and strong. Then there is the CFA. Their efforts in the face of flames fanned by cyclonic winds is beyond words. ... Some of our team have been out and about helping, and as the damage came in many ways, so can help. Our Shane Wilson has been busy clearing trees uprooted last Saturday night. While the scorched earth photos and videos are the most obvious form of destruction, across the district farmers untouched by the fire continue to deal with buildings destroyed, trees felled and fences smashed. Jellie McDonald congratulate all who have done their bit. Theres plenty more to do. http://mobile.abc.net.au//vic-bushfire-on-the-fir/9564762

02.01.2022 THROUGH KYLIES LENS As the summmer heat sneaks away, the crisp mornings and brilliant colours of autumn are now upon us. Its time for Kylie to capture more beauty in our backyard. Sunset or sunrise? Only Kylie knows. How about you guess and take a stab at where the photo was taken.

02.01.2022 BUYING OFF THE PLAN SHENANIGANS If you have purchased land off the plan, your contract probably contains a sunset clause. A typical sunset clause in Warrnambool states that the purchaser or vendor can end the contract after 18 months if the plan is not registered. ... In a rising market, such as Melbourne and Geelong, this leaves purchasers at the whim of the developer, who may delay the development, end the contract, and then sell at the higher price. As this article states, developers arent getting it all their own way. If you buy off the plan, make sure your solicitor explains the effect of the sunset clause in your contract.

02.01.2022 Many of us are doing it tough during the Covid-19 lockdown. Jellie McDonald are delighted to support the Buy a Bowl for Bali campaign. It is the concept of local Warrnamboolians who recognise that as tough as life is for us in Vic., our Balinese friends, which so many of us have spent great times with, are doing it much harder. With no tourism, their economy has collapsed and many are going hungry. Now, they need our Aussie goodwill more than ever. So jump on board wit...h Jellie Mc, and support this great local campaign. By buying a bowl for $3.00 you will feed a family of four for a day! https://buyabowlforbali.aceorder.com.au/
