25.01.2022 ~Sensory Bags~ Today we experimented with sensory bags and I think it's fair to say it was a success. Sensory bags can be filled with almost anything, from play dough to shaving cream, and provide a great sensory experience for little fingers as they squish, poke, pinch and pat! Our rainbow sensory bag was made from different coloured finger paint. I like to use My First Finger Paints by Crayola because they have a great squishy texture. Plus they're non toxic in case the bag...s happen to leak. Our beach inspired sensory bag was made by filling the bag half way with blue shower gel and adding shells for exploration. Our lava lamp sensory bag was a firm favourite. To make this one we filled the bag half way with vegetable oil, added a couple of drops of yellow food colouring and then a splash of water. Levi loved swirling around the coloured blobs and I must admit I loved watching the patterns he made too! See more
24.01.2022 A fun day was had with our newest little jellybean! The play dough was definitely a favourite. We made a car track, cupcakes, bug habitats and little miss even had a turn with her play dough squish bag. Here's our favourite recipe for lovely soft play dough that doesn't stain your hands! - 2 cups plain flour - 1/2 cup salt - 2 tablespoons of oil (we used olive but you could use coconut for a delicious sensory experience) - 2 tablespoons cream of tartar ... - 1-1.5 cups boiled water - natural food colouring (beetroot juice, turmeric and saffron make brilliant natural colours) 1. Mix together dry ingredients with the oil. 2. Add colour to boiled water and gradually pour into the mix. 3. Wait for mix to cool and then knead until desired consistency is achieved.
24.01.2022 We've got some budding bookworms here at Jellybeans. Being read to helps us develop invaluable literacy and language skills that we'll need later on for reading, writing and communication. As Dr Seuss taught us "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

23.01.2022 Cloud dough This stuff is the best! And so simple to make. Just combine 1/2 cup of oil with 4 cups of flour and you have yourself an amazing sensory dough that's both powdery and mouldable. You can use baby oil but as my little ones are prone to mouthing EVERYTHING I use olive oil to make it baby safe. You can also add spices, essential oils or food colouring to take your dough to a whole new level.
23.01.2022 "Play is often talked about as if it were relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood" -Fred Rogers.

20.01.2022 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Jellybeans!
20.01.2022 I heard a quote the other day that I thought was a brilliant reminder to us all: 'kids are 100% washable'. It's so true! I think sometimes we put messy play into the too hard basket but in doing so we're really doing a great injustice to our little ones. Here's a great little article that outlines why we shouldn't shy away from messy play. Bring on the mud pies we say! http://happinessishereblog.com//04/why-kids-need-real-play/
19.01.2022 Sensory exploration is a firm favourite amongst our babies. We especially like our touch and feel books.
19.01.2022 Baby painting Painting with babies is not always easy but this mess free marble painting provides the perfect baby safe alternative! To create our masterpieces we cut a piece of card to fit inside a ziplock bag, covered it in shaving cream and added small dots of food colouring. We then placed the card inside the ziplock bag and secured it to the high chair tray with masking tape. The babies had a great time squishing and swirling the colours to make beautiful patterns. When they were finished we scraped off the shaving cream, let the card dry and voila! Marble effect paintings created by our littlest Jellybeans
19.01.2022 Blocks and puzzles are a fun way to develop our fine motor skills and coordination which are essential when it comes to everyday tasks such as doing up buttons or cutting with scissors. Just look at that concentration!
18.01.2022 A beautiful reminder to let our little ones be little. They are only little for such a short while
17.01.2022 Singing and rhyme time are an important part of our daily routine. Not only is it a lot of fun, it also helps us develop our language and communication skills.
14.01.2022 A fabulous little activity to enhance fine motor skills is Pom Pom drop. All you need is Pom poms, a cardboard tube and some masking tape. Please excuse my taping ability, apparently another fun activity is to pull the tube off the wall
11.01.2022 There is just so much to love about sand play! It promotes the use of large muscle groups as we dig, scoop and sift and small muscle groups as we squish, grab and manipulate tools. It also encourages us to use our imagination and creativity and beside all that it's just plain fun. Who doesn't love building the odd sandcastle or digging a mermaid tail?
