23.01.2022 Leadlight windows from St. Michael's Church in Clare, South Australia The windows were provided by the members of the church and of stained glass and quite in harmony with the structure. St Michaels was considered to be magnificent . and one of the best outside Adelaide. The windows were of an unusual design, featuring a series of ascending linked circles of frosted glass with a further series of smaller glass rings moving up within these in alternating colours of dee...p ruby red and Bristol blue flashed glass that was so arranged as to suggest a helix or spiral. The edges of the windows are of the same red and blue, in panels, alternating with a mid green and a warm orange/yellow. A sacred purple exists as two panels of glass at the base of each window. 07.01.2022 "Speed Empire Trade" - a British Empire marketing board The Empire Marketing Board (EMB) was established as a British government department in 1926 and abolished in 1933. Its work as the promotional body for the economic products of Empire was often controversial, but the enduring legacy was recorded in the high quality posters created to advertise these products. Art for political purposes was not new in 1926, but the new profession of commercial artist coupled with offset ...rotary presses meant that long runs of high quality colour lithographs could be produced during what came to be known as "the golden age of advertising" These posters were widely displayed in commercial buildings and on specially erected hoardings (designed by EMB) in public places. These posters were well designed and executed by leading artists and painstakingly reproduced by dedicated printers. The message was to influence the imperial citizens and consumers of the day and also those in the future. The themes were patriotic, expressing integration of Empire: and empire builders from the labourers upwards were pictorially accorded the dignity to be found in this democratic, egalitarian union. The iconography of battle and conquest were (mercifully) avoided in EMB products. The poster we have for sale was made as 2 plates and measures H x L = 765 x 3050 mm (and as such is one of the longest vintage posters available today) The poster shows good bright colours and well-defined images. The poster is in good condition. It is rolled up as one piece of paper. The poster emphasizes the (then) new idea of rapid travel (and thereby transit of goods) from one part of the Empire to another, by listing the fastest flying times between countries. The 20th C. obsession with speed was well underway-the message was that consumer gratification was closer than ever before. See more: http://www.jenkinsonantiques.com.au//british-empire-market
