22.01.2022 Slip, Slop, Slap! Sunburn can occur on any non-pigmented (pink) skin on horses, their coat will usually protect them from the harmful UV rays but area's such... as the muzzle and eyes will need sun protection. Start with a good quality UV rated fly veil, then find a suitable sun protection product. There are many specifically made for horse's but a good quality SPF 15+ human sunscreen or zinc (waterproof is best) can be used daily. For complete protection use a light-weight flysheet, this will also protect your horse from the sun as well as insect bites which are more prominent summer.

21.01.2022 Spring has sprung but unfortunately, it's also the time for high parasite activity in horses due to the change of season and temperature. Intestinal parasites... such as small redworms and roundworms are very common and can cause serious and even life-threatening diseases in some cases. Unfortunately, even regular worming does not guarantee that a horse does not have parasites. To address this and assist in parasite control planning, Camden Equine Centre is holding a PARASITE CONTROL MONTH all throughout September. During September, a 50% DISCOUNT will apply for a FEC analysis ($19 per test). FEC analysis enables us to make an assessment of the horse's current parasite status and also to create an ongoing parasite control plan for your horse and property. Any sample submitted will have an accompanying veterinary assessment along with recommendations for a parasite control plan for each horse. Please drop into reception to pick up your FREE collection kit or contact us on (02) 4655 0777 if you would like more information.

15.01.2022 A de-worming program is an essential part of good horse management but unless you know if your horse has worms, you won't know whether de-worming is necessary o...r how effective your program has been. Our new technology enables us to give you an exact faecal egg count and an emailed report showing the eggs counted in the sample. By having the test you could save money on unnecessarily de-worming and your horses gut will be better for it. Just give a labeled manure sample to the vet at your next appointment, or bring it to our office for an instant test. $40 per sample, results in 2 minutes. See more

14.01.2022 The Transported Stock Statement (TSS) system was introduced in 1990 partly to assist NSW Police Force to trace stolen stock. You are required to carry a TSS in ...various circumstances including transporting your horse to a private facility for recreational riding or lessons. Police Operation Stock Check commenced on the 4th of August 2020 resulting in increased monitoring of transported horses. Be prepared, you are likely to be pulled over and asked by the NSW Police for a TSS for the horse you may be moving. If you do not have a TSS with you or your horse does not meet any of the exemptions, you may be fined. 07.01.2022 Keep an eye out for fireweed! Now are the perfect conditions for fireweed (Senecio madagascariensis) to flourish. It looks like a daisy - little yellow flowers.... It invades pastures and can be DEADLY to horses. A single plant produces up to 30,000 seeds each season. The problem is they contain chemicals called pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Livestock that eat fireweed get liver damage. The damage gets worse the more an animal eats. If you think you have affected animals contact your vet immediately. Symptoms in horses: * general dullness * aimless wandering * uncoordinated gait * pressing up against fences, gates or trees * reduced awareness, and possible blindness * Unpigmented skin can become sensitive to sunlight, redden and peel away.

07.01.2022 To celebrate the 20th Anniversary, we've put together a video series about the three Olympic Sport Venues that the Office of Sport manage. Our first video featu...res the Sydney International Equestrian Centre and a #MySydney2000 memory from Sydney 2000 Olympic Gold Medallist Stuart Tinney. Stuart was part of the Australian Eventing Team and still trains and competes at the Equestrian Centre in the lead up to Tokyo. Tinney Eventing

06.01.2022 Riders Cup has Pony Club Jumping into Spring After making the difficult decision to cancel our State Championships for the remainder of 2020, Pony Club NSW h...as established the PCANSW Riders Cup a showjumping challenge where riders can compete within their zones whilst testing their skill against riders across the State. Inspired by the FEI Childrens Challenge, this allows our riders to get out and compete in a fun and covid-safe manner and keep themselves and their horses active. International Course Designer John Vallance has generously designed all of our courses for the Riders Cup. All events will be run between the 3rd and 11th of October, with State results announced shortly after the conclusion of all events. Our unique club network of around 250 clubs has given Pony Club NSW the depth of experience and knowledge within our membership base to allow for 18 different clubs and zones to host the event from Coffs Harbour in the North, to Bega in the South, and as far West as Dubbo and Jindera. Every host club will receive a $200 grant from Pony Club NSW as well as providing much needed fundraising and sponsorship opportunities for these clubs. Many clubs have missed out on income from their canteen and their yearly fundraising events such as Gymkhanas and raffles, and the bills to keep the club running keep coming in. Pony Club NSW Official Nutrition Partner Ranvet has come on board as a major sponsor of the Riders Cup event, they will be providing place getters with their Australian Made Nutritional Supplements, merchandise and more! We are very thankful to have the support of such a wonderful company that supports our up and coming riders. It has been a tough year for everyone, however with much of our membership base coming from rural and regional NSW we have particularly sympathised with our members affected by drought, bushfires and floods throughout 2020 and hope that the Riders Cup will provide our members with the sense of community that Pony Club is all about whilst still being covid-safe.
