18.01.2022 Could not have said it better myself Keeping young children out of shoes as much as possible is critically important to their development however teeny tiny shoes are so bloody cute so what so you do? As a Podiatrist I do not recommend people provide footwear as gifts unless they have taken that child to a specialist shoe store to get fitted. It should be up to the parent to shoe their child as it is very important for that child’s development to have shoes on their feet that fit appropriatly. Giving a child footwear as a gift places unnecessary pressure on the parent to put those shoes on their child’s feet which may cause them damage if they don’t fit properly. 09.01.2022 A condition close to my heart I was diagnosed with DDH thankfully at birth and was in a brace for the first 6 weeks of my life but as the article describes DDH is a developmental condition and isn’t always present at birth. There are both genetic and environmental influences for DDH and even thou my daughter didn’t have DDH at birth I opted to have her screened at 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months. There is evidence to suggest that there is a higher preference of DDH of babies born in the cooler months as they are swaddled more regularly to keep them warm which can place them at a higher risk of developing the condition.
