15.01.2022 At Blackwattle, we are more than a home based yarn business. We are also alpaca owners, running a herd of 78 alpacas and 2 llamas (along with 5 pet goats) all o...f which need to be feed and looked after. We believe in growing and selling the very best alpaca fibre possible. We also believe that we are responsible for what we tame, and we take looking after and caring for our alpacas very seriously. Like many other livestock owners across Australia, we are struggling with the lack of rain and higher than normal temperatures. This is a photo of our paddocks taken today. It is heartbreaking knowing that this outlook is not going to change in the near future. We are facing one of the worst summers we have faced since being on the farm. A summer with no rain and extreme temperatures predicted. A summer where we are faced with feeding our alpacas every day and finding the money to buy the feed, if good quality feed can even be found. Many other livestock owners find themselves in the same, if not worse, situation. How can you help? Buy from a farmer. Buy from a small business. If not from us, then from another family owned business that is on the land. Support local businesses where ever possible. If you cant afford to purchase from a small business then support them through liking and sharing their social media posts. Rain, and lots of it, will help our situation going forward, but until it does rain, farmers and small businesses, like ours, need all the support they can get.

07.01.2022 I wanted to share the story of these lovely three lucky boys..... Lauren Chapman and her lovely partner have been learning about how to look after alpacas, by visiting our farm and halter training these boys before she surprised her mother with them as a Christmas gift, her mum Sarah Chapman absolutely loves alpacas and was so surprised and so very happy, Lauren sent me the video of her mum seeing information sheets on each boy and it was such a lovely video, it made me cry, I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed selling alpacas more than these three and I have sold alpacas to some great people many who I am still friends with , I wish you all the best with your beautiful new boys
