25.01.2022 I have had some feedback from people saying that they have not been able to access weekend #COVID19 testing in #MyMaitland. 23.01.2022 There will be a high danger of fire across the Greater Hunter tomorrow due to warm, dry and windy conditions. In the state’s north east the first total fire ban of the 2020/21 fire season will be in effect. The NSW Rural Fire Service is urging people to check and review bush fire survival plans.... Stay safe!

22.01.2022 Heatwave conditions in the Hunter. It’s already 38 in Maitland! What temperature is it at your place? There’s a total fire ban and fears the electricity network will feel the strain.... Please try and stay well hydrated and check in on neighbours, friends, relatives and pets.

21.01.2022 If you're planning to celebrate the start of #schoolholidays by hitting the water, please be careful. 21.01.2022 Thank you Wilma Lilley, Laura Cavallaro and Elizabeth Lilley, who came to my office this morning to deliver a great pile of #ItsInTheBag donations. The bags and their contents were collected by the West Maitland Centennial Lions and will benefit women supported by @ShareTheDignity this Christmas. Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful donation!... If anyone else would like to contribute towards the It's In the Bag drive, you can drop your donations to my office at 2/12 Elgin Street, Maitland.

18.01.2022 2020 was certainly a year that we will all remember for many different reasons. This time last year our farmers were struggling with ongoing drought and communities were battling the devastating summer bushfires and in some places floods. Then came coronavirus which has changed our lives in so many ways. During 2020 I had more people contact me looking for help than at any other time in the last six years. It has been truly humbling to be able to assist people who have been ...in very important moments in their lives, trying to navigate the challenges thrown up by the pandemic. It will take a long time to recover. We are missing our families, battling uncertainty and many people are still being impacted at work, if they are lucky enough to have a job. I know tourism operators particularly are struggling - with some facing their second peak season in a row with no income. One thing that has been good to see has been the efforts made by so many in our community to help others. Of course, emergency service workers, health workers and cleaners, and of course, so many volunteers have made an enormous contribution, as have the generous people who have donated to so many causes. I thank my team: Christine Boyd, Eve Nesmith, Garry Blair, Jayden Roberson and Debbie Kerr who have all worked so hard with me (often day and night) to try and help everyone. If we can take one thing from 2020 it should be that community spirit and willingness to help others. I wish you and your loved ones all the best for the rest of the holiday season, and hope that you are able to spend valuable time with family and friends. I share our collective hope that 2021 is a much better year for everyone!

18.01.2022 Congratulations to #MyMaitland's Fredric Holten for hosting this November event, a barbecue for Mr Perfect - Mental Health's Mate. The barbecue will be held at Walka Water Works on Sunday, November 22 between 10.30am and 12.30pm. It will be a chance to get out of the house, socialise and connect with others in a supportive environment. Mental health may be discussed at times, but it's optional.

17.01.2022 Have you seen Sharday? She lives in Rutherford but has been missing for two weeks. Police are urging anyone with information, or who may know of her whereabouts, to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. My thoughts are with Sharday’s friends and loved ones at what must be a terribly distressing time.

17.01.2022 Breaking news NSW RECORDS 18 NEW COVID-19 CASES. The following restrictions are now in place for Greater Sydney. 5 person limit for households in Sydney, Central Coast and Wollongong. ... Outdoor gatherings reduced from 50 to 30 for these areas. The new restrictions will be in place until 9 January 2021.

16.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who kindly donated to my November #ItsInTheBag donation drive on behalf of Share the Dignity. The response has been overwhelming! Today our community 'Shero' Trudy, a dedicated volunteer who clocks up many kilometres and countless hours collecting and distributing donations to support women and girls in need, came to pick up our contribution to the cause. Trudy will come back to me tonight with our official donation count. While the number of donations b...rought to my office this month seems in line with the collections we've gathered in previous years, we're all acutely aware that the need is even greater in 2020. Fingers crossed that enough has been donated, and collected, to reach the many women and girls doing it tough in our community this Christmas. I appreciate the great generosity once again demonstrated by the people of Maitland, particularly in light of the difficult year we've all navigated. Thank you all.

16.01.2022 Great news for NSW - just two new confirmed cases of #COVID19, and both are returned travellers! It's imperative as we come into the school holidays that we remember to test at the slightest sign of any symptoms associated with #coronavirus.

15.01.2022 If you're heading out on our roads this long weekend, be mindful that NSW Police Force fines for traffic infringements carry double demerit points until midnight Monday, 5 October 2020. Double demerit points apply for speeding, seat belt, motorcycle helmet and mobile phone offences. Mobile Phone Detection Cameras are also in use and drivers caught using their phones during this double-demerit period will be hit with a $457 fine and 10 demerits.... Please drive safely and take extra care.

15.01.2022 Lovely to meet Mia and her carer, from the Animal Welfare League NSW to celebrate #DogsInPolitics to #KeepAusPetFriendly. There has been an increase in the number of adoptions during the Covid pandemic as more people work from home. If you are considering bringing a new family member into your home, consider a rescue animal. The Animal Welfare League, the RSPCA NSW, other shelters and Council pounds all have dogs that are available for adoption.

15.01.2022 Congratulations to Olivia, who is the 2020 winner of my Young Achievers Award at Metford Public School! While #COVID19 restrictions meant I was unable to personally congratulate Olivia, I'm delighted that she and other Maitland students were still able to receive my annual primary-school Young Achievers Awards and secondary Community Recognition Awards. Congratulations to all our award-winners, and to every student, parent, carer, teacher, learning support officer, principal or other education worker who has remained committed to learning during this intense and challenging year.

14.01.2022 So pleased to deliver funding for the Maitland Men’s Shed for the purchase and installation of a wheelchair-accessible lift. The Men’s Shed were one of 15 local organisations who shared in the Maitland electorate Community Building Partnership Program

14.01.2022 Three weeks after the Federal Government announced an Agriculture Code to allow cross border travel for the ag industry, farmers and ag businesses in NSW still can’t get across the border to work by car. Our $16 billion agriculture industry, including the spring harvest, which is predicted to be the best for nearly four years, is at risk if Minister Marshall can’t make this work. Farmers in NSW are sick of NSW Government announcements that don’t roll out in a timely manner.... Fix this, please, Minister!

14.01.2022 POWER OUTAGES Ausgrid has reporting a couple of outages in the Telarah, Maitland and Lochinvar areas. They are currently working to restore power to those areas and estimate that it will be restored by 1.30am

13.01.2022 Breaking news to help you plan your holiday gatherings!

13.01.2022 Dementia affects close to half a million Australians. That number is set to double in the next 25 years. Many Australians will start experiencing the impact of dementia amongst their own family and friends in the coming years. Today marks the start of #DementiaActionWeek, which aims to demonstrate that many people living with dementia can continue to live well for many years after their diagnosis. ... Many continue to make significant contributions to our community - they make their own choices and live rich and active lives. Sadly, Dementia Australia's engagement with advocates indicates that there is a prevailing attitude that people living with #dementia are old, frail and living in care. These misconceptions lead to judgements by the community about the capacity of a person living with dementia and condescending behaviours. Such beliefs can lead to significant discrimination against people living with dementia. To become better informed, visit the Dementia Australia Week website at https://www.dementia.org.au/dementia-action-week

11.01.2022 Today I had the absolute pleasure of presenting Senior Constable Jenna Stedman and Constable Steven Drane with a copy of the speech I gave in Parliament that recognised the integral role that they played in helping East Maitland woman Ilona Grigg spend her final moments with her dying husband of 52 years. Small gestures like this, while dealing with other police issues, are things that make a huge impact on someone’s life. Thanks to all of our hard-working police and our local police leadership team for nurturing a culture of care and compassion in our community.

11.01.2022 People have been letting me know that they have had difficulty in getting COVID testing in Maitland. I have been in contact with Hunter New England Health and they have advised that Maitland private clinic has been closed today, but they anticipate it will be open tomorrow. They have also advised me that testing is available 24/7 at Maitland hospital. ... If you have any difficulties accessing COVID testing please contact my office [email protected]. Thank you.

10.01.2022 It’s a beautiful day to be out in the garden picking up sticks and weeding after all the winds, but be careful of ticks. I found this little passenger when I was topping up on sunscreen. Remember when removing them not to pull the heads off or squeeze them. Robert used a very fine pair of tweezers which must have worked because the tick was still walking around once it was removed.

10.01.2022 Happy new year 2021! This morning I am finding some joy in the simple little things like: the waffles my husband made us for breakfast; the kangaroos in the backyard;... the leafing up and now blooming of three frangipani sticks my mother-in-law gifted me from her garden. (The bonus was I haven’t killed them yet !!!) May 2021 be a good one for you and your family, and a better year for all of us.

09.01.2022 I am so incredibly proud to be the Member for Maitland in such a kind hearted community. Thank you to everyone who has given so generously to the 2020 Annual Toy and Gift Drive. This will make such an incredible difference for many children this Christmas.

09.01.2022 Many parents have contacted me in recent weeks about the #COVID19 restrictions that limited one parent spectator per child at community sporting events, and I have made representations on their behalf to the Minister for Health. While today the Government has relaxed its stance, please remember that our sporting clubs and associations have been left with very limited time to adopt their #covidsafe plans. Social distancing for people who do not share the same household is st...ill mandatory and may not be possible in all situations. It is also essential to adhere to the organisation's active COVIDSafe plan. Please be understanding of the hard-working volunteers and officials who have been given less than two days' notice and may not be able to adapt their plans in time for the weekend. In other announcements today: Weddings will soon allow bridal parties of no more than 20 people to take to the dance floor. Parent volunteers can return to schools in Term 4 Sport will return to pre-pandemic conditions School camps and excursions can resume Kindergarten orientations can begin from the start of term 4 and year 7 orientations from 11 November.

08.01.2022 NSW residents will be free to travel to Queensland on November 1, provided we continue our clear run and record 0 positive tests for #COVID19 for a 28-day period.

05.01.2022 In Gillieston Heights, we have a public primary school with more than 200 Maitland children learning in a school with just two permanent buildings. This is simply not good enough. Our children deserve modern, permanent, flexible and innovative learning spaces. Last week I moved a Notice of Motion in the Parliament of NSW, calling on the Liberal/National Government to invest in school infrastructure and provide an urgent upgrade for Gillieston Public School.... This follows on from my recent visit to the school with Shadow Minister for Education, Prue Car MP, and my July visit to the school with NSW Labor Leader Jodi McKay MP. On both occasions we called on the Berejiklian Government to invest in education infrastructure and deliver an urgent upgrade to the school. I am hopeful that my Notice of Motion will trigger parliamentary debates in November, and encourage the Government to provide much-needed infrastructure for #MyMaitland schools.

05.01.2022 RESTRICTIONS FOR NEW YEARS EVE NSW Health have advised what restrictions are in place for New Years Eve depending on where you live. Tougher restrictions are in place for Greater Sydney which includes the Central Coast and Wollongong.... Police Districts will have extra officers on duty to enforce the limits on gatherings. IT’S AN OFFENCE NOT TO ADHERE TO THE PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER. Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000) is the nominated reporting agency for the public to provide information to police about individuals, businesses and corporations not complying with Public Health Orders. Please be COVID safe

05.01.2022 Hope you haven't yet packed up the winter woolies! This weekend will bring a flashback to full-blown winter but it'll be short-lived; this time next week we'll be sitting in the low 30s. #weather Bureau of Meteorology
