24.01.2022 "The blue of the Night" ink and gold

24.01.2022 These are in a realistic style with a slightly abstract twist.

24.01.2022 DID you Know - A macaws facial feather pattern is as unique as a fingerprint. Macaws, like other parrots, toucans and woodpeckers, are zygodactyl, having their first and fourth toes pointing backward. There are 19 species of macaws, including extinct and critically endangered species. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macaw#Biology

22.01.2022 Feeling rather sad tonight as moving day looms closer! Only two more sleeps. The last three days have been non stop for the people who are so kindly helping me pack up everything. Today was the taking down and packing all the paintings in both my home and in the Gallerie. As I looked around at the work hanging on the walls it seemed only yesterday (try almost three years) that I moved to Newport Village and I have come to love not only my home and Gallerie but the village its...elf and the many wonderful people I have met. From neighbours to the kind people who commissioned me to paint their requests. It has been a very happy three years filled with laughter and new friendships. I am moving to Lourdes Village and It is an exciting prospect indeed. I will have a lovely bright sunny studio to paint to my hearts content and an open invitation is extended to all my Facebook friends to call in to see the latest works on offer. So now it's on to the next phase of my life and all it has to offer.

21.01.2022 The last few weeks have seen me confined to Barracks to allow the feral foot to heal. To pass the time productively I have been delighting in painting my old love, the bearded iris

20.01.2022 Two versions of the popular Frangipani. Have not painted these in years but enjoyed the walk down memory lane last week. It took me about three days to complete each of these watercolours

20.01.2022 Wanting to change pace a bit this week I have finally been able to draw up two tigers heads from beautiful photos taken by my good friend Carole Grant. Carole is a brilliant photographer and kindly emailed me these photos some time ago. I had told her how much I wanted to try painting tigers in water colours. The preliminary sketches are below. Not happy with these so will endeavour to use only pencil next time..........definitely not charcoal......too messy !!!!! The face of one tiger is not right so will start again tomorrow.

19.01.2022 My Story - Jen Dethlefs Artist From my earliest years I have loved to draw and paint but it was only when I reached High School I began to win some art prizes and discovered the joy of creating art works other people admired. I began to haunt the School Library in a constant search for material about famous artists and their techniques. Then learning all I could about the famous artists, their mediums, the works they painted and, in particular the techniques they employed to ...Continue reading

19.01.2022 When I feel a bit weary of a subject it is good to revert to my first love the bearded Iris, just cant paint enough of them!

18.01.2022 The last few days I have enjoyed painting my beloved bearded Iris. After having a go st painting Murphy the large black Great Dane from Black Duck Brewery it was a change of tempo to indulge in the lovely Iris flower again!

17.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW baby elephants are called calves. Yes. Ok what about - The average gestation period for African Elephants is 649 days -- or 22 months. A newborn elephant normally weighs between 200 to 268 pounds (90-121 kg); this little calf weighed in at 205 pounds

16.01.2022 Jen Jen Art at the Artist Markets this weekend. Sunday 28th. Maritime Museum. Pop in and say Hi

15.01.2022 Beautiful Cinnamon! I loved the photo I took of this lovely little animal when I was about to paint her likeness. Used my favourite medium of water colour.

15.01.2022 My obsession with the bearded Iris continued and it is great fun throwing lots of colour around without painting in much detail.

14.01.2022 Good Morning everyone. Here we are on the eve of another year and I wish you all a wonderful year of new beginnings and wonderful opportunities. A very exciting move for me is the launch of my online shop Jens Rainbow Gallery. Many thanks to Jenny Broughton who has managed to get it up and running. Jennys business acumen has been a fantastic help and finally we have been able to achieve my dream of selling online. I have wanted to do this for several years but always found it rather daunting! Jenny will manage all the orders and publicity. Hopefully I will have my head down painting! Finally I would like to wish you all a very Happy, Peaceful New Year with the best of health and prosperity. Cheers Jen Dethlefs

14.01.2022 A very realistic style for these Iris

14.01.2022 Last week It was fun to try my hand at Lassiandra or Tippatchina as the locals call this beautiful shrub. I love the deep purples to pale pink and blue, even Chameleon passes through a series of wonderful hues before it becomes completely white!

13.01.2022 RE-LOCATION SALE of ARTWORKS To all my Facebook friends. It has been a very busy year but much has been achieved. Lots of paintings done and this has caused me to hold a Re- Locating sale of my art works. There are too many to wrap and transport to my new home in Lourdes Village. Sale is now on at "Gallerie' Rainbows" 78/1a Lincoln Road, Newport Village, Port Macquarie . The gallery will be open from 10am until 4pm each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the next two week...s. If these times are unsuitable give me a call on 0423129207 to make an appointment. If the gates are closed just call me on the landline 65803078 and I can open from the house. All are welcome and I hope you will come to view my work and maybe find that perfect gift for a loved one. Paintings make a delightful Birthday, Wedding or Christmas present. I would love to see you and would enjoy catching up over a coffee, tea or glass of vino. Paintings have been dramatically re-priced to sell as I dread the task of wrapping dozens of them! Most are 50% off and many are below cost price. There are framed and unframed works to suit every budget, starting from $5.00. Looking forward to the pleasure of your company. Cheers Jen See more

12.01.2022 Meet Harimau and Hantu the two tigers I have been working on for weeks! They are finally completed to the best of my ability. The beautiful photos I have been working from were taken by Carole Grant AFLAP, FAPS my brilliant photographer friend. The photo below is of Harimau (I have taken the liberty of naming them and asked my brother Bruce for some suggestions from his Sri Lankan wife)

12.01.2022 Another mad whirl of bright colour in this mob of wild iris !!!!! Used inks, acrylics and watercolours but I feel just one medium would be more attractive.

11.01.2022 The following painting is of Hantu. Thank you Bruce and Shantha for the suggested namespace

11.01.2022 Today I received an order for this scene of a European city in the rain. Customer would like it to be twice as large in size.

10.01.2022 Using the negative approach!

09.01.2022 Unfortunately I have been a bit under the weather the past couple of weeks but hoping these beautiful Spring days will blow all the bugs away! Found an old tin of gold paint in the shed last week and decided to tip all the remaining paint over a canvas which I was not happy with..... this is the result. Let me know what you think......

09.01.2022 Tonight I thought people may be interested in these paintings I completed yesterday. Loved painting this African Mother Elephant with her new baby.

07.01.2022 These are some samples of the work I have been doing the past couple of weeks. "Red Sails in the Sunset" inks

06.01.2022 This week it has been such beautiful weather I have been torn between painting and gardening but managed to complete several works!

06.01.2022 So true for me!

05.01.2022 I was on a cruise last march and viewed this painting hanging in the ships Art Gallery. ........fascinated by the artists technique I wanted to give it a try.........all the work was done with a palette knife and such fun!

04.01.2022 "Faces in the Clouds" inks

04.01.2022 Did you know - TIGERS The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest cat species, most recognizable for their pattern of dark vertical stripes on reddish-orange fur with a lighter underside In 2016, an estimate of a global wild tiger population of approximately 3,890 individuals was presented during the Third Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation.[5][6] The WWF declared that the world's count of wild tigers has risen for the first time in a century.

03.01.2022 Have been trying to fit more into my days and this is what I am working on at the moment. I love to paint Macaw Parrots but they never seem to become any easier to portray!

01.01.2022 First effort at painting tigers in water colours.......unfortunately I used charcoal to do the drawings which made them rather messy! Pencil would have been cleaner and easier to use the water colours without making mud! Oh well back to the drawing board tomorrow. The bottom tiger is a bit askew so will try again in the morning!

01.01.2022 I love the rather voluptuos appearance of this traditional style of Iris
