16.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has told us to brace for a wetter-than-average wet season. We may not be able to prevent flooding, but we can take steps to make sure ...we are prepared for it. Make a plan so everyone knows what to do; pack enough supplies to last at least three days; prepare your home and property, and make sure you’re covered by insurance. Go to www.getready.qld.gov.au for more information.

08.01.2022 Threat Level AMBER QLD Flood Watch: E Gulf & W Cape from Normanton to Kowanyama, & N Tropical Coast from Cooktown to Ayr Source: Bureau of Meteorology... Issued at 1:46 pm EST on Monday 4 January 2021 Flood Watch Number: 4 Minor to moderate flooding likely in the Flood Watch area Monday with major flooding possible. Ex-Cyclone Imogen is expected to continue moving east-southeast during Monday, bringing heavy rainfall to the Flood Watch area. The area of heavy rainfall is expected to extend to the North Tropical Coast late Monday from Cooktown down to Ayr, with heavy rainfall persisting for a few days. Most catchments in the Flood Watch area have recorded rainfall totals of at least 100-300 mm in the past week, with river level rises currently being recorded at many locations. Catchments will therefore respond more quickly than normal to heavy rainfall. A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Herbert and Lower Burdekin and parts of Peninsula, Gulf Country and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders Forecast Districts. Minor to moderate flooding is likely in the Flood Watch area, with major flooding possible dependent on the track of ex-Cyclone Imogen. Flooding has already been recorded in the Norman and Gilbert catchments, and is expected in North Tropical Coast catchments from late Monday. This will likely impact roads and travel in the Flood Watch area, with potential for property flooding. Localised flooding and disruption to transport routes are expected throughout the Flood Watch area from Sunday. Catchments likely to be affected include: Mitchell River Staaten River Daintree River Mossman River Barron River Mulgrave and Russell Rivers Johnstone River Tully River Murray River Herbert River Black River Ross and Bohle Rivers Haughton River Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam Flood Warnings are now current in the following catchments: Norman River, Gilbert River.
