14.01.2022 MUST HAVE HERBS TO GROW AT HOME Growing herbs at home is a great way to get your hands dirty and enjoy the delicious flavours in your home cooking. Here are our must haves: PARSLEY... One of the easiest herbs to grow, you will be able to enjoy at least 12 months of fresh parsley. It prefers moist soil and if you the leaves are yellowing, add some liquid fertiliser in winter for a nutrient boost. MINT Very easy to grow herb requiring just a little water and suitable for either sun or shade. BASIL One of the most fragrant herbs, basil grows well from seed when planted in full sun. CHIVES Excellent herb for pots or can be used to create garden borders. Plant during Winter in full sun, keep the soil moist but ensure it is well drained. THYME It will do well in a pot, but also as a ground cover forming large clumps in the garden that you can walk on - it prefers to be planted in a sheltered position in full sun. OREGANO A tough plant that will do well planted in the garden, as a ground cover or in a pot. Won’t require much water and the more you harvest, the quicker and thicker it will grow. Happy Herb Harvesting!!
13.01.2022 Celebrating the last Sunday of Winter with this delicious dish #ComfortFood Ingredients turkey mince 400g onions 2, 1 grated, 1 finely chopped... garlic 2 cloves, grated fennel seeds 1 tsp, toasted and crushed dried chilli flakes tsp olive oil 1 tbsp chopped tomatoes 2 x 400g tins spaghetti 350g basil a handful of leaves parmesan finely grated to serve Method STEP 1 Put the turkey mince into a bowl and add the grated onion, 1 of the grated garlic cloves, the fennel seeds, chilli flakes and lots of seasoning, and mix really well. Form into 16 balls. STEP 2 Heat the olive oil in a large non-stick frying pan and fry the meatballs, in batches, for 3-4 minutes or until golden all over. Scoop out onto a plate. STEP 3 Add the finely chopped onion, remaining garlic clove and a generous splash of water, and cook for 5-10 minutes or until the onion has softened. Tip in the chopped tomatoes and simmer for 15 minutes, then use a hand blender to whizz until smooth. Return the meatballs and simmer for 10 minutes until cooked through. STEP 4 Cook the spaghetti following pack instructions in a large pan of boiling salted water, then drain, reserving some of the cooking liquid. STEP 5 Tip the spaghetti into the pan, toss with the sauce and meatballs, and divide between plates. Scatter over the basil and parmesan before serving. #BecauseYouDeserveMore
