25.01.2022 Back to 1981 and one of films best villains Steven Berkoff. Lovely bloke who even allowed me to photograph him applying his stage make-up in his dressing room (big superstition and never allowed). Nice to have a shot of him in front of the original Kerbys Kiosk before it burnt down.

24.01.2022 Scanning old negs from 1981, I came across this shot of James Freud (The Models) in the studio. Never seen a rock star look so sad. R.I.P. James

22.01.2022 Photography for me is not looking, its feeling. If you cant feel what youre looking at, then youre never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures. Don McCullin: 1935 #ballarat #ballaratphotographer #ballaratweddingphotographer

22.01.2022 "There is definitely a 'red carpet moment' to a bride's wedding day, but when designing for bridal, it is important to focus on the details that will captivate and capture the imagination of the bride - she has to fall in love with the gown. " ---- Jenny Packham #ballarat #ballaratphotographer #ballaratphotography #ballaratweddingphtographer

22.01.2022 All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another persons (or things) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to times relentless melt. Susan Sontag

20.01.2022 I love this sequence of Steven Berkoff applying his make-up as I didnt even have to direct him to make the faces, he just loved playing up to the camera.

20.01.2022 So, who's in to come to join me at The Lost One's gallery in a few weeks? You'll learn heaps about your DSLR I promise.

20.01.2022 Despite them being vicious man-eaters, Lake Wendouree's swans are pretty spectacular birds. Couldn't resist this shot at the recent Head of the Lake where one of the school marquees was reflecting red over the water. Luckily the swan decided to stretch his wings at the correct time

20.01.2022 "Feelings aroused by the touch of someone's hand, the sound of music, the smell of a flower, a beautiful sunset, a work of art, love, laughter, hope and faith - all work on both the unconscious and the conscious aspects of the self, and they have physiological consequences as well. " --- Bernie Siegel

20.01.2022 Believe it or not this is 2 faces split down the middle and joined together (not as easy in 1983 only using an enlarger and clag). The faces in question belong to brothers Jay and Michael Aston from the Goth band "Gene Loves Jezebel" and was part of a big photo session we did in my studio in Old Brompton Rd. The boys loved this photo and used it for many years but the record label forgot (!!!) to include it on the sleeve of the record....

18.01.2022 "I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it." From: "the City of Angels"

17.01.2022 Since the invention of the kiss, there have been only five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind. The Princess Bride

17.01.2022 A big slice of cheese to finish off the week. Legendary rock journo Barney Hoskyns and I were sent to Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire to cover Barry Manilow for the NME. We were convinced that he was going to be the king of shmalz and that we would hate it. Well he was the consummate showman wasn't he, and we were a little embarrassed after we realised that we knew most of the songs. Boy George and Captain Sensible were in the VIP/Press area with us and looked to be loving the show. He was still incredibly cheesy but we couldn't deny that he did his job extraordinarily well, so instead of slagging him off we ended up doing a very complimentary spread on him. We did however call him Barry Manilnose. It was the NME after all

17.01.2022 I am absolutely thrilled that one of my photos, of one of my favourite guitarists, Wayne Kramer, of the MC5, has been featured in Waynes autobiography. I received his signed copy in the mail this morning.

10.01.2022 To photograph is to hold ones breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. Its at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy. Henri Cartier-Bresson: "The Minds Eye: Writings on Photography and Photographers"

07.01.2022 How good is your local rock knowledge? Enjoy some memories from the early punk, new wave and goth scene thanks to Ballarat photographer Jeremy Bannister. Today ...Jeremy met Raf to share stories from his years as a rock music snapper in the late '70s and early 1980s. Jeremys archive of photos from that time has been requested by the National Film and Sound Archive, so will soon be preserved for all. In the meantime, enjoy some of his work here - do you remember them all? Photos all courtesy of Jeremy Bannister

07.01.2022 "This photographic thing has changed the entire vision of the world. It will go through every activity of humanity - science, medicine, space, ESP, for peace, against peace, entertainment, television, movies, all of them - you will not find one without photography" - Lisette Model

06.01.2022 Im a bit chuffed because tomorrow Ill be sending off a hard drive full of photos of assorted rock n roll stars to National Film and Sound Archive in Canberra. They have requested ALL of my shots from my time working on The VirginPress, New Musical Express and even Smash Hits. They hope to have a blog up soon which means I now have to write a memory/description of all the photo sessions and gigs I attended. Pretty pleased because at last anyone can get access to them rather tham them sitting in my filing cabinet. To use a wonderful old quote "Ive suffered for my art, now its your turn!" #ballarat #ballaratphotographer #nationalfilmandsoundarchive #nfsa

05.01.2022 Nice to see this up online so quickly. Now to write all the descriptions and stories around each band...
