24.01.2022 A brilliant idea. The waterfront belongs to everyone, not just the few. Be warned Dominic Perrottet, you will encounter noisy and influential landowners who will seek to undermine any progress on building fair and equitable access to public waterfront land. On that note, the City of Ryde riverwalk missing link is due to open mid December. You’ll hear much much more about that in due course.

22.01.2022 Our first Ryde wharf markets were a hit, and now it seems like the rest of Sydney know about it Mark 13 December in your diary for the next instalment, just in time for Christmas

22.01.2022 Some photos from yesterday’s touching Remembrance Day service at Memorial Park Meadowbank. Numbers were kept low due to Covid restrictions, but we still had wreath layers from Gladesville RSL and Community Club North Ryde RSL Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club and Club Ryde. Thanks also to the captains of Marsden High School Official Marist Brothers Eastwood Holy Cross College, Ryde, Ryde Secondary College and Epping Boys High School for being part of our short service. ... Over 300 men and women from City of Ryde died serving in WW1. Countless others in wars to follow. Lest we forget.

21.01.2022 Get excited City of Ryde - the out of this world awesome Meadowbank Regional Playground has started! Around 30 to 40 tradies will be on site building this dream play precinct and will be working hard to complete this by early 2022. What's even better is that this playground will be built to be accessible and inclusive to children of all abilities and their carers.... As you can see the design includes: Active play zones with a range of equipment types and challenges Sand play with interactive sand play elements Nature play zone with discovery and imagination elements Feature water play zone with splash pad and interactive water play elements. There are picnic shelters, fixed seating, shade sails and an increase in accessible parking and a new minibus drop off location. And for the sports fans out there, particularly those from the West Ryde Rovers, a new amenities building will also be built. I'll post about that beauty another time. When I was first elected, previous councils would have baulked at building such an important community facility. I'm so glad that changed when I became Mayor. Bring on the opening!

20.01.2022 Our first in person #citizenshipceremony since March, socially distanced of course. It’s good to be back

20.01.2022 Illegal dumping costs ratepayers $500,000 a year. It makes our streets unsightly and unsafe and of course bits of plastic waste ends up in our rivers. Most frustrating of all is that it's almost impossible to catch offenders and provide enough evidence to slap them with a $2000 fine. To combat this City of Ryde is undertaking a number of trials to monitor, catch and fine illegal dumpers, and keep our streets and waterways free of waste.

20.01.2022 Scott Morrison has Australia stuck in first gear when it comes to Electric Vehicles. With our manufacturing sector crying out for revival, with the regional mining jobs that increased demand for battery metals can provide, and with its clear and obvious pathway to emissions reduction, Scomo needs to drop his ridiculous opposition to EVs and supercharge Australia’s take up of them. Check out my editorial on Sky News below and let me know what you think.

17.01.2022 There are 10,000 new dwellings to be built at Melrose Park. This light rail is essential to keep cars off Ryde’s already congested roads and now it looks dead in the water. What other election promises will the Liberals break?

17.01.2022 Yes, we will use technology to combat illegal dumping. No, we will not monitor your KFC consumption.

15.01.2022 West Ryde needs some love and to make sure City of Ryde gets it right, we need you to help. Please take some time, have your say and be part of the solution.

14.01.2022 Are you like me and love amazing landscaping, but have no skills or interests in gardening? Then our Garden competition is just for you! Tune in at 2pm to admire our amazing competition winners and entrants' gardens and dream a little about how good your own garden could be if you watered the plants enough, or didn't mind getting dirt on your hands, or if you owned any garden tools.

14.01.2022 Today we launched the City of Ryde summer dining campaign. Outdoor dining fees will be waived for small businesses until March 2021 providing stimulus for them to keep their doors open and serve locals in a Covid-safe manner. Get out there to our local Cafes and Restaurants across #ryde and use the hashtag #rydesummerdining to show your support

13.01.2022 November is a pretty good birthday month. Me: 37 years old (today!!) City of Ryde: 150 years young (she doesn’t look a day over 132 don’t you think?)... Happy birthday Ryde. Check out our sesquicentenary website below

12.01.2022 Couldn’t have put it better myself. Despite calling it ahead of its time, the state government still found reasons to refuse Ryde’s plan to force developers to provide affordable housing in all developments. Our community want to deliver this infrastructure, but the State intervened to the benefit of developers. ... Says it all.

10.01.2022 Behind the scenes at a ~very~ different Local Government New South Wales conference. As Treasurer, I’ll soon be giving my first treasurers report and hoooboy, what a baptism of fire this year has been Then we have 140 motions to debate this afternoon.

09.01.2022 Breaking news out of tonight’s Council meeting

09.01.2022 City of Ryde’s Affordable Housing plan was SO GOOD, they refused it. This decision is so brazenly pro-developer it would even make Daryl McGuire blush. And all from a Premier who said in 2017 that affordable housing was the biggest issue.... Extraordinary.

08.01.2022 Hey Siri show me a young Mayor who looks horrendously awkward in their first official photos...#flashback2015

07.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS It's official! The City of Ryde Heritage Review is now law! After years of losing our history to development, we now have protected some of our most beautiful and important properties and estates across our City for generations to come.... Ryde is New South Wales' 3rd oldest settlement and has, up until now, had some of the worst heritage protection laws in the state. After a long and bruising battle, we got it over the line. I'll do a full wrap up in coming weeks, but this, this is something to be really proud of and a real legacy of this current progressive Council. Thank you to all in the community who backed us to deliver what you've always wanted, our true history preserved.

06.01.2022 Did you know illegal dumping costs ratepayers (YOU) over $500,000 a year? In response City of Ryde has launched a trial of some high tech initiatives to combat it and keep our streets and rivers clean. Check out 9 News Sydney tomorrow night for more information

06.01.2022 This is a long one, but something you should know about; the NSW Government are backing a developer led public land grab, supporting an applcation to transfer public land to private ownership. In 2009, the former Labor State Government gave concept approval for 138 apartments to be built at 63-77 West Parade, West Ryde. Of the 138 apartments, 61 were to be public housing. That's a healthy 56/44% private-public split. In the middle of a housing crisis, and at a time when unemp...loyment rates are at generational highs, the State Government have endorsed an application by a developer to drastically change those figures. Not only does the State Government want to increase total units to 150, up from 138, they also want to transfer more than half of the approved amount of public housing to the private developer for profits. The new proposal only provides 20 public housing units of a total of 150. That's less than half of what was approved in 2009. This is your land, land that has been reserved for public use. This application, if approved, will give that land away to a private developer. In short, it is an outrage. Tomorrow at 11am, I'll be attending the State Government's own Sydney North Planning Panel to argue against the approval of this development. Public land should not be transferred to private ownership for the profit of developers. This application must return to the 2009 approval, and in the middle of a global recission, more public housing must be a priority.

04.01.2022 Great review from Ryde District Mums Tickets are still available for tonight and the weekend.
