25.01.2022 Wonderful image by Ken Calley of four cheeky Latham's Snipe. These guys are near impossible to see! If you have a camera with excellent zoom, please keep an eye out for any orange leg flags (seen in second image) and send in those images!

25.01.2022 VERY EXCITING SNIPE NEWS! This is the second year that this snipe - ELF70 - has returned to Jerrabomberra Wetlands! In addition, ELF58 was also seen yesterday and was banded during our recent satellite tagging in Jan of this year. this means both birds have been to Japan/Russia and back since we last saw them! Talking to one of the Latham's Snipe Project Managers Dr Birgita Hansen; "this indicates the huge value in (a) the snipe banding and flagging program at jerra, and ...(b) the importance of resighting efforts by local birdos and photographers." We encourage you all to get out there with your binoculars and big cameras and send in any photos you take to us either via Facebook or to [email protected]. These photos help inform the ongoing research and are very important for our researchers to have. Jerrabomberra Wetlands is the only site in Australia where this information exists or has ever existed. 25.01.2022 Day 3 of #nationalbirdweek (don’t forget to send us your fave birdy photos from Jerra!) The Superb Fairywren (Malurus cyaneus) is a common but always a welcome sight at the wetlands. The confidence that oozes from them when they’re calling is enviable. This lovely image of a little male was taken by Luke Foster.

06.01.2022 Family dinner time! While Gang-gangs aren't an uncommon sight in Canberra, they're never boring. This mother and son were spotted having a feed at the wetlands last week. Like other cockatoos, Gang-gangs spend a lot of their time chewing - stripping the bark, leaves, buds and branches off trees. What else would you do if you had a bolt-cutter for a beak?! These gorgeous images were taken by Julie Clark... #ganggang #birdsofig #visitcanberra #abcwildoz #familyfeed @ Jerrabomberra Wetlands See more

04.01.2022 Day 5 of #nationalbirdweek and hoo-wee we are getting close to the end This Grey Fantail is another woodland bird we see regularly at the wetlands. Why do we get so many woodland birds at our wetlands you ask? This is due to all the trees that were planted in the 70s. While they’re Australian tree species, the majority of them aren’t found in this region. In fact, Jerrabomberra wetlands is actually a floodplain - meaning there originally would have been no trees. Despite them not meaning to be there, we don’t mind having the trees one iota as it provides great habitat for small woodland birds like this Grey Fantail. This lovely photo was taken by Claire Perry.
