20.01.2022 I received this message of Peace and New Year greetings from Anja Mewes the Coordinator of the Berlin World Peace Bell and thought I would share her message wit...h you all along with my greetings and good wishes for this New Year. Anja will be the guest speaker at our Rotary Zoom meeting on the 25th February. If you would like to join that zoom meeting please let me know and I can send you the link. Cheers Michael Rabey Dear friends of peace, dear fellow campaigners for a more peaceful world, I would like to take the opportunity at the beginning of the new year to thank you that we have been able to continue our struggle for a more peaceful world once again a bit more networked, with new actors. It gives us courage and encourages us above all in our activities to bring a bit of peace closer to people around the world. Corona could not make us slacken in our efforts to further expand and deepen our contacts. The digital world enables us to further deepen our communication. We are still deeply moved by the visit in 2020 to our Polish friends for the World Day of Peace. Our aspiration will be to further expand our friendly relations and to achieve new contacts, especially with the other existing World Peace Bells around the world. I very much hope that Mr. Katsumi Sato will give us new impulses in this respect. I also think that the worldwide actions with the peace stakes (Peace Poles) will bring the topic of a peaceful world further into the conversation with many peace-loving people, especially young people. The Corona Pandemic has once again proven that we cannot continue to exploit people, animals and also our environment, as has happened so far. Economic and social policy, environmental and climate protection as well as the fight against militarization and war, for a peaceful world, must henceforth be thought together. In the meantime, nothing less than the existence of mankind is at stake. In this sense, I look forward to our continued close and friendly cooperation. cooperation for a more peaceful world. Sincerely Anja Mewes (Coordinator Berlin World Peace Bell)

15.01.2022 Don't miss out Queanbeyan! Volunteer Grants close this Sunday and so far I've only received 2 EOIs from groups in Queanbeyan. Volunteer Grants support the work ...of local community organisations with a focus on the inclusion of vulnerable people and promoting participation in volunteering. There is $132,450 available for Eden-Monaro not-for-profit organisations whose workforce consists of at least 40% volunteers. Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 will be available to assist eligible community organisations. Small portable equipment purchases, contributions towards the cost of training volunteers, reimbursement of fuel costs for volunteers and undertaking background screening checks for volunteers are examples of what these funds can assist with. The deadline is Sunday, April 18. More info here - https://kristymcbain.com.au//2021-volunteer-grants-famili/ Photo: Sharing a laugh with Arthur, a resident of Queanbeyan.

15.01.2022 Welcome to Rotary's Centenary of "Doing Good" DownUnder!! And its time to announce a set of new commemorative coins that will put Rotary into the hands of every... Australian in our centenary year and beyond. The Royal Australian Mint has announced that we will launch a pair of coins in 2021 for our centenary. A $1 coin will go into general circulation and also be available in a commemorative collectors pack for $15. A special minting of a silver $5 coin will be available for $100 marking 100 years of Rotary service and launching into the next 100 years. Ideal for collections, gifts, thankyou’s for speakers, Rotary archives, memorabilia and more. Many thanks to years of hard work from Hugh Bucknall (Founder R100 Campaign) has now paid off. The new coins will be launched in Sydney on February 4th along with a set of commemorative stamps.

14.01.2022 The toilet block at Ryrie Park, Braidwood will be closed for approximately four weeks from Monday 2 November to allow the installation of an adult change table.... A bank of port-a-loos will be available throughout the period of works or there are public toilets near the Visitor Information Centre and at the Braidwood Recreation Ground. We need to do some structural changes and reconfigure the facilities slightly before the adult change table and accompanying hoist can be installed. The existing men's and women's disabled toilets will be combined into one large unisex disabled toilet. The Rotary Club of Jerrabomberra was successful in securing grant funding for this project and is partnering with us to achieve a fantastic outcome for families most in need of this type of facility as they travel through our region and hopefully linger longer in Braidwood to find all of its hidden treasures. 10.01.2022 Well known and loved by Jerra Rotary. RIP

09.01.2022 It is with much regret that we are postponing D9705's 2021 RYLA Programme. We ran it through the bushfires of 2019/2020 but COVID19 has brought us unstuck. The ...limitations and restrictions imposed by the pandemic have meant we cannot plan with confidence to run the event in January 2021. We investigated a number of alternatives, such as an on-line programme or moving the programme to June/July 2021. However, we have decided to hold off and bring D9705's RYLA back, bigger and better than ever, in January 2022. You will be hearing from us a lot in the next 18 months - we will be offering up "Tastes of RYLA" to help with your recruitment plans See more

03.01.2022 This family was referred to RAWCS by Dick Smith after they had approached him directly (and desperately) for help. Dick left it in our hands to respond and this... was close to the final allocation of his 1st Million dollars. When contacted, the President of Coomera Valley RC - Rick McElwhinney responded quickly and started to put a program in place to cover the ongoing cost of therapy for the 2 children and the Royary Australia Compassionate Grants (RACG) allocated up to $26,000 to be used as needed. A long term plan was developed to help the family under the stewardship of Coomera Valley RC. However, as per the letter below, the family's problems continued to grow and last year consideration was given to finding a replacement car. Once put in place, an RACG grant of $15,000 was approved and the matching funds were quickly raised through the RAWCS project account. This has been an outstanding response from all concerned but in particular the Rotary Club of Coomera Valley who have provided much more than finding the funding when needed. I feel sure that Rotarians will be alongside this family for a long time to come. Read the letter of thanks from the Rogers Family to the Rotary Club of Coomera Valley for this heart warming Rotary Project. This story is one of the reasons we are all in Rotary.

03.01.2022 How to get to Capital Region Farmers Market With restricted access into Exhibition Park in Canberra at the moment the only vehicle entry is via Old Wells Stat...ion Road directly off the Federal Highway or Morisset Road from Mitchell. Walkers and cyclists can still access the pedestrian gate at Gate 4 next to the Service Station on the Federal Highway. These arrangements will be in place every weekend until further notice.
