18.01.2022 A timely reminder of how quickly things can go wrong, even for experienced sailors. Within seconds of losing the keel this cruiser was over with sailors in the water. No time to grab EPIRB, flares or jackets. Thankfully a spotter on the beach at the club saw what happened, raised the alarm, and was able to flag down a nearby motorboat to get quickly to their aid. Everyone is OK (battered, bruised, tired, but OK), the boat is back at the club, and work being done to get it ...back onto its trailer. Then the search for the keel will start :P Well done and thanks to all involved in the rescue and salvage operations. Its times like this we really appreciate the Marine Safety we have available locally, and the comradery of club members. It's also a reminder that life jackets are not for decoration - wear the damn things! See more
