17.01.2022 There is a body of research supporting the unique connection between a mother’s lullaby in soothing and communicating to her baby. This lullaby is a Tagalog lullaby from the view of an adult reminiscing those days, the connection and protection that one receives from being cradled, and that these memories will never fade. My mama and her mama have done a lot of singing for their children. Perhaps that’s why I sing too? Well, my mama has just reminded me, it was my nana Rosa (my step-nana) who sang to me when I was a little baby. Mama’s song doesnt *have* to be a female nor blood related. I’ve seen it with a father’s song, and even a special recording. We should always celebrate that unique special bond that is shared with love.
05.01.2022 I've been thinking an awful lot about home, Aotearoa, and all my other homes lately, so I've doodled some important flowers for some important places for me. Inspiration and aroha. Perhaps a 'Social Call' is in order again NZ x https://soundcloud.com/jesschanmusic/social-call
01.01.2022 A student of mine today said it must be sad for me to be the odd one out, coming from a family of scientists, but myself being a musician. I laughed, and then said, they all play or played music too, and I also studied, still love and learn about science It’s funny to think of life being for one or the other and taking sides, but it actually came up because we discussed physics in our music lesson. I want to be able encourage any and all interests in people and my future students, but also appreciation and awareness of what might not be ones interest but is within ones ability to help and support! X thanks to my cousin for sharing this post first, and to my extended family of artists (and scientists, and the mishmash of in between).
