15.01.2022 One aspect of leadership during the Corona crisis is constant: change. As leaders we dont only need to manage change, but we need to lead change: anticipate change and lead with intention, strategy and sound communication. But with many aspects of our personal and business lives being impacted by things that are out of control almost on a daily or weekly basis we feel like we keep on playing catch up. I work with clients in the travel and hospitality indus...tries. The constant change of health advice, lockdown changes, closures, international travel warnings and opening and closing of borders puts huge pressure on leadership teams and employees. I have been coaching a regional leadership team in the aviation industry to help them lead their people remotely through these times. They face change daily and need to be nimble and agile. When we are under pressure, sound structures and simple processes are helpful to stay on track and pave the way to put the right measures in place. I taught the team how to use the ADKAR (by Prosci) model to lead change consistently and with agility. 14.01.2022 How has the crisis defined your character? I have seen leaders majorly stepping up during this crisis. The challenges have been immense and it's not over. Resilience, agility, perseverance, compassion, vulnerability, courageous decision making and strong, authentic leadership is shining through in these tough times. So much learning to be done. 04.01.2022 After Workshop 2 Resilient Leadership, I interviewed Daniel Lyons, Head of Public Relations and Marketing, Greater China and Philippines: "There are 3 main challenges that make this current period unique in terms of being resilient: 1. The longevity of this crisis 2. The pandemic affects all aspects of life:... 3. Ongoing uncertainty I have built my own resilience during this period by focussing on the small things. I create milestones per week or day to have a purpose and celebrate achievements. Also taking on learning development opportunities helps me feel motivaed. When I was working from home I had a regular network of people that I could go to with concerns, fears, and issues. With my team, I have encouraged them to create similar routines. I held regular touch-in sessions, brainstorming how to adapt our plans to reflect the changing reality. Being open and approachable and trusting them to develop their own flexible working patterns. The workshop on resilience was particularly useful. It provided an amazing space to honestly approach some of the challenges that we're all facing. It made us think about how we can identify challenges that our teams have and also think plan to help them meet those challenges in a sympathetic and supportive way." 03.01.2022 We are moving into a new world at light speed. Automation, disruption and our new reality of a VUCA world have put a huge amount of pressure on leaders. But they also represent opportunities to create more flexibility in the workplace and renewed purpose in organisations. Technological disruption is shaping the Future of Work and it’s clear that whilst many people think that machines take our jobs, it is the human skills that count. We need to learn, adapt,... unlearn and re-learn. The speed at which we can adapt and foresee the future will determine the agility of our organisations.
