25.01.2022 I had THE most productive weekend I’ve had in such a long time, just ticking things off the household chores list that have been on there way too long It’s the best way to step into a new week; refreshed and organised... agreed?. . @marceauphotography (talented af for getting my awkward, lanky self to resemble something almost graceful)... #sunday #vibes . . . . www.jnfit.com.au . . . #sydneypt #northernbeachespt #sydneypersonaltrainer #northernbeachespersonaltrainer #northernbeachesmums #sydneymumsandbubs #prenatal #postnatal #health #fitness #workout #pelvicfloor #breastfeeding #normalisebreastfeeding #baby #newmum #chatswood #deewhy #sydney #mobility #stretch #yoga #pilates

25.01.2022 Unfortunately, practicing the basic exercises and their variations doesn’t sell; combining large compound movements into strange combinations and performing them on a bosu ball, does. Being unwilling to sacrifice technique and therefore lifting less weight to maximise on mobility and strength isn’t popular;... maxing out every week regardless of how well you’ve recovered and in spite of poor technique and ROM, is all the rage. Lifting weights and eating enough protein is an almost guaranteed way to get toned; but hours of cardio and barely eating seems more plausible. People are willing to put in 80 hour weeks, miss family events and sleep very little in order to become Director of a company. But heaven forbid they put in even half that much effort and sacrifice for their physical health and well-being. But at some point; all the quick fixes will have failed, and then there’s nothing left but the hard work. That, or they’ll end up sitting in a Dr’s office discussing osteoporosis/ type 2 diabetes/ gastric band surgery/ spinal injuries or shoulder problems. There are people out there who make a lot of money by making you feel like crap about yourself. Remember that. Listen to the ones touting the less exciting stuff- they probably have your best interests at heart. P.S. this is me, coming off a back injury and shoulder issues 12months ago, deadlifting 96.5kg for 5 reps. The week before I lifted 94.5kg, and the one before that was 92.5kg.. I could definitely lift heavier than this, but I would also definitely sacrifice a lot of my technique to do so. Perfect practice, makes perfect Train with me! www.jnfit.com.au . . . #sydneypt #northernbeachespt #sydneypersonaltrainer #northernbeachespersonaltrainer #northernbeachesmums #sydneymumsandbubs #prenatal #postnatal #health #fitness #workout #pelvicfloor #breastfeeding #normalisebreastfeeding #baby #newmum #chatswood #deewhy #sydney #mobility #stretch #yoga #pilates

25.01.2022 Let’s explore tight hamstrings in relation to butt wink during a squat!

25.01.2022 You might see progress doing random workouts; but you’ll DEFINITELY see progress following a structured training programme. I prefer not to leave things to chance I have a 4 week programme available online for just $69.99! Link in bio (head to Strong Online)... https://jnfit.com.au/online-workouts-strong/ . . . . . #sydneypt #northernbeachespt #sydneypersonaltrainer #northernbeachespersonaltrainer #northernbeachesmums #sydneymumsandbubs #prenatal #postnatal #health #fitness #workout #pelvicfloor #breastfeeding #normalisebreastfeeding #baby #newmum #chatswood #deewhy #sydney #mobility #stretch #yoga #pilates

23.01.2022 Tomorrow, I’ll wake up a 30 year old woman That age used to scare the crap out of me! But I honestly think that’s just because I hated the idea of having lived 30 years of a life I didn’t love...... Now that it’s here, I’m SO grateful it’s come, and that I’ve reached it in such a healthy mental and physical state. The decade that was my 20’s gave me some serious tough love and some of the best years of my life! As cliche as it sounds, I really feel like I really found out who I am, and what I enjoy in life- and I’m out there doing all of it every single day So here’s to turning 30, and to the next decade #thirtyflirtyandthriving

22.01.2022 I hit some rep PB’s in training this week! (Means it’s the most reps I have done for that amount of weight) I didn’t even realise it until I had a look back at one of my previous programmes... Another great reason to track all your workouts- even if you can’t bring yourself to jump on board with a programme. Record at least 3 of these variables within your sessions, so you can ensure progress over time: The exercise Weight used Reps done Sets done Rest time How hard it felt/ energy levels Or let me do the work for you with an online programme www.jnfit.com.au #sydneypt #northernbeachespt #sydneypersonaltrainer #northernbeachespersonaltrainer #northernbeachesmums #sydneymumsandbubs #prenatal #postnatal #health #fitness #workout #strengthtraining #powerlifting #girlswholift #strongwomen #strengthtraining #chatswood #deewhy #sydney #mobility #stretch #yoga #pilates

22.01.2022 One of my favourite warm ups- hanging scapula refractions! Not only do they strengthen your grip and your upper back, they’re wicked for chest and shoulder mobility and spinal decompression (aka they are an amazing upper body stretch!) If you find you have trouble holding on for full sets, bring a step or box underneath you so you can use a bit of leg drive to hold a little of your weight, until your hands and forearms build strength!... This is also the way you should initiate a lat pulldown or pull up/ chin up, and also most rowing movements! Retract and depress the shoulder blades BEFORE you bend your elbows The first muscle to move will do most of the work . . . . . . . . . #sydneypt #northernbeachespt #sydneypersonaltrainer #northernbeachespersonaltrainer #northernbeachesmums #sydneymumsandbubs #prenatal #postnatal #health #fitness #workout #pelvicfloor #breastfeeding #normalisebreastfeeding #baby #newmum #chatswood #deewhy #sydney #mobility #stretch #yoga #pilates #strength #girlswholift #strengthtraining #backday #workout #fit

21.01.2022 Happy Sunday I’ve been living vicariously through my old travel photos this weekend... I was supposed to be off to Hawaii next month, and my sister was meant to visit me from Sweden with my niece ... Anyone else feeling intense fomo with the lack of travel this year? These are some of the photos from my solo trip to Europe exactly 2 years ago! What an adventure that was I fell in love with Europe, the culture and the buildings, and the food of course! Travelling on my own was an insane experience, but I don’t think I would do it again. I prefer to share things with someone, and it would have been cool to see the cities at night (I was too nervous to go out on my own after dark). It was also an unusually hot summer that year- Sweden recorded its hottest temperatures in centuries! Lucky me #travel #greece #italy #france #europe #culture #experience #fun #fomo #covid19 #imissthis @ Europe

20.01.2022 Did you know that women AND men have a pelvic floor? Well, you do now! Not only that, men can experience the same types of PF symptoms and dysfunctions as women!... These are the most common warning signs that something might not be quite right in your pelvic floor: Urinary leakage Ever pee’d yourself while exercising, coughing or sneezing... or just for no reason? Sudden urgency to urinate We are talking suddenly BUSTING and CANNOT hold it. Heaviness or dragging in vagina Signs of a prolapse! (In men this is felt as a bulging in the rectum or feeling the need to use the toilet, without actually needing to go) Accidentally passing gas Yep- that loud and embarrassing fart in the middle of your deadlift could be a sign your pelvic floor needs checking! Pain around the tailbone and/ or pelvis This might feel like lower back pain, or pain around the pubic bone or hips Frequent need to urinate This is likely if you can’t go more than 2.5 hrs without a toilet break Difficulty emptying bowels/ constant constipation These issues can compound and make any problems get worse over time If you recognise any of these symptoms, it might be time to see a professional pelvic floor specialist or physiotherapist. . . 18.01.2022 Happy Friday peeps! Remember; if it’s a choice between being right or being kind, always choose kindness We are all beginners at something, and it helps absolutely no one to take a sneaky video and post it online...... I’m guilty of having a giggle at these types of things, but the failure of an already experienced athlete missing a box jump or dropping a barbell is completely different to filming someone who is clearly inexperienced trying to have a crack and something extremely positive, and having a laugh at their expense. It costs nothing to be kind, sprinkle that shit everywhere #fridaythoughts #choosekindness

17.01.2022 Train smarter AND harder I learned all this the hard way! Training HARD daily Never taking a day off... Smashing myself every session Not prioritising nutritious food and hydration for recovery Ended up hurting my neck from repetitive, poorly executed movements, fell off the wagon completely and spent almost 12months barely training and eating shit. For me, finding a place that means working hard but also looking after myself was the key! . . . www.jnfit.com.au . . . #sydneypt #northernbeachespt #sydneypersonaltrainer #northernbeachespersonaltrainer #northernbeachesmums #sydneymumsandbubs #prenatal #postnatal #health #fitness #workout #pelvicfloor #breastfeeding #normalisebreastfeeding #baby #newmum #chatswood #deewhy #sydney #mobility #stretch #yoga #pilates

16.01.2022 THE TRAINING BUCKET LIST I’ve always had a bit of a bucket list for my training. Things that I find difficult because of my height. The pistol squat has probably been my number one bucket list exercise since I can remember.... I used to watch people doing them like they were nothing, and thinking they were just so out of my reach because I’m built like a baby giraffe! It might not be a big deal to some people; but this right here...for me... was the BIGGEST reward for all my hard work over the last 20-ish months of consistent lifting, and I’m SO stoked (and even happier that I filmed my attempt ) It’s important to celebrate your wins. No matter how they compare to someone else’s story. Now to work up to sets of more than one! 15.01.2022 Being a mum is pretty cool. I mean, it’s really tough... but when you have a kid like this it’s worth it. I can’t believe my little baby is 7 today! He’s got the best sense of humour in the world (he’s quite popular amongst my followers) and makes me laugh even when I’m furious- a really good quality to have. ... He’s just honestly got a heart of gold and is my best little mate. #happybirthdaykye #luckymum

15.01.2022 WHAT IF... we encouraged building glutes and abs because they provide stability for our pelvis and lower back, so we can carry babies and still play with our grand-babies decades later? WHAT IF... we encourage lifting heavy because it increases bone density, and prevents breaks and fractures after menopause? WHAT IF we encourage correct technique because it promotes joint health and independence well into old age? WHAT IF we promote strong thighs because they need to help us walk, run and play unassisted for 80+ years? WHAT IF instead of just promoting exercise as a way to look good in clothing, we remind one another that STRONG bodies are going to go the distance? To me the idea of needing a walking frame or breaking a hip from a simple fall is abhorrent, so I train for a healthy and mobile retirement Why do you train? If it’s purely for aesthetics; why not take some time to journal, reflect, and figure out what kind of life you want to lead into old age. Cause I guarantee you won’t care about having a big booty and tiny waist, if your knees can’t carry you up a flight of stairs... If you’re unsure where to begin, DM me! I can provide online training and support www.jnfit.com.au #traintolive

13.01.2022 4 years difference The girl on the left worried about what she ate every day; cut out meat and dairy for a long time and hated her food. She’d had 2 horrendous long-term relationship breakdowns, and was in a financial rut.... She trained insanely hard 6 days a week. She also liked to binge drink at weekends if the kids weren’t home. She had zero self confidence, zero self worth. But hey, she had abs It’s so strange how different I feel now compared to then. It’s like it was someone else’s life... I guess I’m trying to remind you all that healthy takes many forms, and having a 6-pack does NOT automatically mean a person is healthy. Nowadays, I approach my eating with a very different outlook. I eat so that I can lift heavy, but I also eat to enjoy my food. I’m also only training 4 days per week, and enjoy cocktails on the weekends as a way to socialise rather than escaping my reality. I really feel like myself for the first time in my whole life #dontjudgeabookbyitscover #bodypositive #sydneypt #northernbeachespt #sydneypersonaltrainer #northernbeachespersonaltrainer #northernbeachesmums #sydneymumsandbubs #prenatal #postnatal #health #fitness #workout #strengthtraining #powerlifting #girlswholift #strongwomen #strengthtraining #chatswood #deewhy #sydney #mobility #stretch #yoga #pilates

10.01.2022 100kg x 5 for another rep PB! I’ve been eyeing this for weeks; I was VERY nervous coming into my session today, knowing I was going to attempt this weight... but it actually felt really manageable. 08.01.2022 Home-made muesli bars Ingredients: 1/3 cup raw sugar 1/2 cup rice malt syrup... 125g Nuttelex 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp salt 1/3 cup buckwheat flour 1/2 cup quinoa flakes 1/2 cup coconut flakes 1 cup chopped dried apricots, goji berries, sultanas (you can use any dried fruit though) 1 cup puffed rice Method: Preheat oven to 160 degrees celcius (fan forced) Microwave sugar, malt syrup and honey in a large bowl on medium heat, stirring every 30seconds until combined Add cinnamon, vanilla and salt and stir Add in remaining ingredients and mix well Place into a slice tin, pressing down evenly Bake for 15-20 mins or until lightly golden brown Allow to cool completely before attempting to slice. You can speed this step up by putting it in the fridge or freezer for a while Enjoy! For those who don’t know, my 6 y.o. son recently tested positive to gluten and dairy intolerances. His allergies aren’t life-threatening, but anything that switches on an immune response in the body long-term isn’t great. So we are slowly becoming a more gluten and dairy-free household I found a muesli bar recipe on playbakesmile.com and swapped out certain ingredients to make it totally vegan and gluten free! The method is the same as theirs. I’m not touting this as a health food. It actually has a very low nutrient level, but IMO it’s much better than the refined sugar, additive and preservative garbage the supermarkets sell, and the kiddies enjoy it . . . 07.01.2022 What if that stubborn last 5kg you’re determined to lose, is also the loss of your social life? What if it means NEVER eating dessert or having second helpings of a delicious meal? What if it means a bad relationship with food?... What if it means punishing yourself in the gym for having a treat? What if KEEPING the last 5kg means you can really ENJOY your life? Because I’ve been down that road. And I can promise you, losing the last 5kg isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It’s ridiculously hard to maintain, and honestly I just found it really annoying buying new clothes #tightarse I definitely sit more closely to the left hand photo on a consistent basis; and honestly it’s the best! I can enjoy all my favourite foods, I can have a drink and take a day off training if my period sucks without feeling lazy or guilty... The right photo, well I’m not going to lie- its nicer to look at. But I think we are our own worse critics, and I’m sure that Matt and my friends would roll their eyes at me for saying that I will choose FEELING good over LOOKING good any day. (I should add that in no way am I saying there’s anything wrong with being lean or striving to be lean. I’m saying that it’s probably worse for your health to beat yourself down to lose that 5kg, than it is to just leave it there and maintain that new normal and enjoying life ) #sydneypt #northernbeachespt #sydneypersonaltrainer #northernbeachespersonaltrainer #northernbeachesmums #sydneymumsandbubs #prenatal #postnatal #health #fitness #workout #strengthtraining #powerlifting #girlswholift #strongwomen #strengthtraining #chatswood #deewhy #sydney #mobility #stretch #yoga #pilates

05.01.2022 This ones for all the ladies and Mums of girls out there! Bone mineral density (BMD) is basically how much calcium and other minerals our bones have at any given time. The more we have, the more thick and strong (dense) our bones are.... Many women don’t know until it’s too late, that we actually have a finite amount of time to hit our maximum BMD storage- somewhere between the ages of 28-35. From there, the supply starts to drop without being able to top it up anymore. Oestrogen levels dropping during menopause, plus the fact we generally have smaller bones than men means we are more susceptible to this BMD loss. Think of it like a tank of fuel- you have until around the age of 28-35 to fill it up, then the lid closes and what’s in there is supposed to last you the rest of your life. If you hit your peak at a half-full tank, it stands to reason that you’ll run out pretty quickly Once BMD gets low, we encounter health problems such as: Osteopenia (mild bone loss without any symptoms) Osteoporosis (severe bone loss with symptoms such as brittle bones, painful joints and succumbing more easily to fractures and breaks) This graphic shows the best timelines for exercise from childhood to old age. What if you’re starting after the age of 40? No problems- work to maintain your BMD and slow the loss, by undertaking resistance training and light cardio with some guidance! As I’m not a dietician I’m sticking to my lane in this post, but as a PSA food is how we get all our vitamins and minerals so it wouldn’t be right not to put it in! The best ones to include in your diet for healthy bones: Dark leafy greens Mushrooms Colourful fruit and veg Proteins, including eggs Legumes And you can help your diet with a vitamin D, vitamin K or vitamin C supplement for an extra kick (but please see your dietician before adding in supplements). Did you know you only have a certain timeline to build your BMD? If not, will you make changes now for yourself and your kids to help? If you’re unsure where to start exercising, send me a DM! 04.01.2022 This Sunday, I encourage you all to reflect on what self care means for you. For me- especially as my schedule is at full capacity with face-to-face clients- it means preparing for my week ahead so that I have food to eat between clients (and don’t have to spend money on take away) It means ensuring I still have time to train (I feel really good after training- it’s a non-negotiable for me)... It also means eating healthy and sleeping properly so that I don’t get run down. If I don’t spend my Sunday prepping for my week, I end up feeling very frazzled and run down which means I have nothing leftover to give to my kiddies and Matt... Self care isn’t always face masks, bubble baths and wine- sometimes it’s the effort we put in to making sure our lives are enriched, using our time properly and making sure that we are always working toward a better version of ourselves! I’d love to hear what you do for self care?? Happy Sunday @marceauphotography & wearing @movemami #sydneypt #northernbeachespt #sydneypersonaltrainer #northernbeachespersonaltrainer #northernbeachesmums #sydneymumsandbubs #prenatal #postnatal #health #fitness #workout #strengthtraining #powerlifting #girlswholift #strongwomen #strengthtraining #chatswood #deewhy #sydney #mobility #stretch #yoga #pilates

04.01.2022 Everyone’s version of self-care looks different. If you’re someone who constantly overeats, make poor food choices, is inactive and prioritises drinking til 3am over getting quality sleep every Friday & Saturday nights (and therefore feels too tired to exercise on top of work); self-care for you is going to mean some sacrifices and a bit of tough love. Getting support from your friends, colleagues and family is the best defence here.... A Trainer is also a good option to help you stay accountable (lots of my clients need the appointments to ensure they keep coming initially, and eventually they’re doing additional sessions themselves!) If you have good people around you, they will rally and uplift you to your highest standards. On the flip side... if you obsessively check food labels, spend hours in the gym punishing yourself for eating something unhealthy, and are someone who constantly avoids social situations because you can’t handle the stress of eating out; self-care for you is going to need the undoing of a lot of deep-rooted psychological issues relating to food and exercise. Again, a support network is important, and you might even consider seeking help from professionals Psychologist To discover the why behind your obsessions Dietician To help educate and lead you into a better way of eating Trainer/ coach To help programme in suitable workouts, and moderate your movement in a structured way Neither extreme is ideal. And yet... sometimes, with work stressors, small children or relationship breakdowns, you may simply not be ready to undertake a journey into the realm of healthy habits. This is OK too. Be honest about this, and kind to yourself too. If you’re ready to make changes, let’s chat! Shoot me a DM and see how I can help . . . . #sydneypt #northernbeachespt #sydneypersonaltrainer #northernbeachespersonaltrainer #northernbeachesmums #sydneymumsandbubs #prenatal #postnatal #health #fitness #workout #pelvicfloor #breastfeeding #normalisebreastfeeding #baby #newmum #chatswood #deewhy #sydney #mobility #stretch #yoga #pilates @ Sydney, Australia

03.01.2022 Which lift do you love best? I’m strongest in my deadlift without much effort; but squats I have to work really hard for, so they’re definitely my favourite in terms of the challenge! That’s what I LOVE about having periodised programming; as a control freak, I love having a clear view of where I’m going and how long it’s going to take me to get there... There are even contingency plans in for sick days or after a big weekend Plus I HATE walking into a gym with no idea what I want to do.
