The main purpose of the warm up is to prepare your body and mind for more strenuous activity. One way it does this is by increasing your body's core temperature while also increasing your body's muscle temperature, helping make the muscles loose and supple.... It also increases heart rate and respiratory rate, which increases blood flow, sending more oxygen and nutrients to the working muscles. Make sure you include these key elements to your warm up and you will be flying! 1) General warm up (light activity 5-10 mins) 2) Static Stretching (helps increase overall flexibility) 3) Sport specific warm up (more vigorous - movements relating to the sport you are doing) Dynamic stretching can also be added on the end for well-trained athletes as it does involve an element of risk of injury if you are only just beginning your sport or activity.
