We want to thank everyone who supported the club during the lockdown and through out the year, as we wouldn't be in the position we are today with out all of our amazing loyal members. The team and owners here at Jetts Coolum want to say a huge thank you and we hope everyone has an amazing Christmas and New Year celebrations with friends ...and family! 22.01.2022 Coach Kait working with her client, Helen, this morning. Lately we’ve been switching up Helen’s dumbbell bench press to a neutral grip, as this has been feeling way better for her shoulder. And this a really important reminder that...... There is never one single way to do an exercise. You can change up the grip/position of the arm or leg. Change up the range of motion. Or change up the variation to something that feels best for YOUR body. Everybody has different bodies and history, which means that just because an exercise works for someone else, doesn’t mean it will work for you. This is just one of the things that a coach can help you with. 20.01.2022 Often the drive to workout just isn’t going to be there. That jump and down excitement you had yesterday feels like a long lost thought, and your partner may literally have to drag you from the bed. But there are a few tricks you can keep in your pocket for these days ... 1 Decrease the barrier to entry How can you make it easier to still show up? What would feel less overwhelming or daunting when your motivation is low? Shorter workout? Dumbbells only? Just committing to 10 mins? Make it easier to still do the thing by taking away the pressure of it having to be perfect or 100%. 2 Think about how you’ll feel AFTER The groggy 5 am feels are not always the most inspiring, so remind yourself of how good you usually feel post-workout. Of how much energy it gives you for your day. Of how much it adds to your day and overall well being. Tap into that feeling. 3 All or SOMETHING If the first two steps don’t work that day, remember that something is better than nothing. Get out for a 30min walk. Do a 15 min yoga flow. Hop on your bike for a leisurely ride. Not only will you likely feel better, but it will also help you keep momentum. And getting back to the gym or your workouts at home the next day won’t feel as daunting. Save this for those low motivation days!

18.01.2022 3 Core Exercises You Probably Haven’t Tried Before (SAVE to add to your next workout) You don’t need extremely complicated or fancy core exercises to keep progressing. Adding in a band, changing up the position slightly or decreasing the points of contact can make a BIG difference.... 1 Tall plank w/ banded row Cues... shoulders stacked right over wrists glutes squeezed and back flat throughout keep hips even as you row This one is a lot harder than it looks! And is a great progression once you are feeling really solid with a tall plank, as it is going to challenge you to resist extension as well as rotation. 2 Long lever plank Cues... drive chest away from floor, squeeze glutes + tuck pelvis and then bring your knees off the floor walk feet back only as far as you can keep a neutral spine (probs not as far as you think) A dialled up version of the classic. Nothing fancy with this one, but trust me you will feel the difference, as long as you are keeping good form and not letting your lower back arch. 3 Copenhagen side plank Cues... place top leg on top of a few steps, bottom leg bent with your elbow right below shoulder, drive your hips off the ground, keeping the bottom off the ground as well While this one definitely works the obliques, the beauty of it is that it is also a fantastic way to get some work in for the adductors (inside of the thighs), an area that can often get ignored. 15.01.2022 Do this to increase the effectiveness of your planks by 37.87 % Okay while I might have just made that exact statistic up this plank set-up is amazing and will change your planks forever. 1 Think about driving your chest away from the floor.... 2 Tuck your tailbone/pelvis, bringing the hips off the ground but leaving the knees still there, and squeezing the glutes. You should already feel your core working here! 3 Next straighten your legs, bringing the knees off the ground. Keep squeezing your butt like you’ve got a million-dollar bill between your cheeks, and there is no way you are going to lose it! This will help tilt your pelvis posteriorly and help you to be in a much better position to use your core more effectively while planking. Now combine this with the most tension you think you can possibly create from your pinky finger down to your baby toe. Keep those butt cheeks glued together. And continue to think about pushing your chest away from the floor. HELLO PLANK! I’ve had a new client try this out recently and say, I have NEVER felt a plank be this hard! If you aren’t shaking at the end of your planks and thinking they are the easy part of your workout, you’re doing them wrong. Saving this to try out next workout? 12.01.2022 3 TIPS FOR STRONGER DEADLIFTS (that you should definitely be practicing) I know, I know, sometimes it can feel like there are 1,493,750 different things to think about when deadlifting But this also means that there is always room for you to be improving, and all of these small improvements can add up to help you lift more AND more importantly, lift with better form and stay injury-free.... 1 Canister Core Position What this means is that before you deadlift, you are making sure your diaphragm and pelvis are stacked over top of one another, and your ribs are locked down to hold this position. The goal is to get into this position and then maintain it throughout the exercise to help protect your spine and allow you to lift more weight safely. 2 Squeeze the Oranges Okay, so of course there aren't any actual oranges hanging around BUT I want you to imagine you had an orange under each armpit, and you are squeezing them so tightly so they don't fall out. From start to finish in every rep of your deadlift. This is going to improve your deadlift immensely because you're going to be engaging your lats and generating more tension in them throughout the entire deadlift. 3 SLOW DOWN I wish I had this printed on my coaching tee at the gym As my in-person and online clients can attest to, I say this A LOT. Stop rushing the set-up. Stop rushing the bar back to the ground with no control. Stop not taking adequate rest between your sets. Move with more intention and control through every single rep, and your deadlifts are going to start feeling way smoother.
