Round shoulders Swinging the weight Stand too upright How to execute: Step back so you can straighten your arms in front of you, keeping a soft bend in your elbow. Have a soft bend in your knees & hinge your hips back. Initiate the movement by pulling down towards your hips. Squeeze your lats as you pull down & push chest out slightly to avoid rounding of the shoulders. Stretch your lats as you control the weight back to the start position.

16.01.2022 Walking lunges These are a great lower body exercise for quads & glutes! If a beginner, focus on a split squat (stationary lunge) first! Often balance is the biggest challenge when lunging. Instead of walking in a straight line, step out shoulder width apart. ... Take your time! Quicker isn’t necessarily better if you’re all over the place. Reminder, knees can travel over toes! We want our knee tracking in line with our toe, not caving in or outwards. But past is safe!

16.01.2022 Lets Talk Fat! Lets take a closer look at these different types of fat and the roles the play in your body. For an adult who is consuming the correct number of calories per day for their gender, general health and activity levels, fat consumption should amount to between 20 to 35% of their total energy intake from food.... Saturated Fat - Saturated fats, particularly from animal sources can increase the production of LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and lower the HDL cholesterol (good-cholesterol). Saturated fats are mainly animal fats found in foods such as fatty and processed meats, dairy products and solid cooking fats such as lard, copha and ghee. They are also found in many processed foods such as cakes, biscuits, pies, sausage rolls and pastries. Although the type of fat found in dairy foods is the saturated type, eating dairy in the context of a healthy, energy controlled diet can lower cardiovascular disease risk, reduce fat mass, increase lean muscle mass and potentially reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. Trans Fats - Trans fats can be found naturally in some foods or produced as a result of food processing. Processed trans fats can have the same effect as saturated fats on our cardiovascular health. These trans fats are mostly found in pies, pastries, savory packaged snack foods, cakes and biscuits as well as some deep fried take away foods. Unsaturated Fats - Unsaturated fats are classified as polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats depending on their chemical structure and effect on the body. Polyunsaturated fats can increase the HDL cholesterol and reduce the LDL cholesterol in the body. Foods high in polyunsaturated fats include oily fish (e.g. tuna, sardines and salmon), sunflower oil, grape-seed oil, soya been oil, walnuts, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, chia seeds, tahini and omega 3 enriched eggs. Monounsaturated fats can reduce the LDL cholesterol in the body. Foods high in monounsaturated fat include olive oil, olives, canola oil, peanut oil, almonds, cashews and avocados. KettleBell: Heavy backpack, protein tub, bucket filled with books... Dead ball: sand bag, duffel bag filled with potting mix, big bag of rice, spare tyres Gym Mat - 2 Large towels Treadmill: Walk, climb stairs Versa Climber: Ladder repeats, bear crawl up stairs Stationary Bike: Push bike Assault Bike: Burpees Our Pick of the Bunch? The Humble Backpack. Fill it with cans from the pantry, books, rocks. Anything heavy! HT TIP: Put a towel on the bottom and sides when filling, then shove a pillow on top to keep the bag full and rigid. You can use the back pack on your back to make bodyweight movements harder, and the straps for curls, rows, extensions, presses & carries

09.01.2022 Technique Tuesday Hip thrust Targets your glutes predominantly, utilises your hamstrings and quads too. ... Hyperextending lower back at the top of the rep Tilting head back Feet too far away or too close to body How to execute : Set up rolling the bar over your hips, with beneath your scapula resting on the edge of the bench. Your feet should be positioned so that you have a 90 degree shin angle at the top of the rep. Toes pointed out slightly. Adjust your foot positioning with practice to find your comfortable spot. When executing the rep, your chin should remain tucked (tennis ball gap) with your gaze forward. Maintain an engaged core. Imagine ribs down. Avoid flaring/opening up your rib cage. Drive hips up, squeezing glutes at the top. Bonus tip - Struggle to feel your glutes?! In a hip thrust, our glutes work most when they are in the shortened, fully contracted position. This is at the top of the rep. Drop back the weight - focus on a hard squeeze at the top, over using momentum to swing the weight off the ground. More range doesnt necessarily mean more glutes - spend more time in the top of the rep. Try not to lower your hips as close to the ground. Bring the weight back down slightly then drive hips back up.

08.01.2022 Technique Tuesday Bulgarian Split Squat Targets the quads, glutes & hamstrings. ... Knee cave in. Arch lower back. Incorrect step height. How to execute: Place your back foot on the edge of a step, so that when you lower you wont knock your shin. The step is to increase range of motion & still bring your back knee towards the ground. Step height matters. You may notice a slight forward lean of the torso. You dont want to lean completely forward, but focus your weight towards your front leg. You dont want to be pushing back into your lower back. Lower your back knee down towards the ground & towards the direction of your step. Ensure your front knee tracks over your front toe. Keep your core engaged & drive through your front leg back to the start position. This is a difficult exercise & shouldnt be performed as a beginner. Nail the basics of a split squat, progress by elevating the back foot slightly & then move to a bulgarian. Find your balance & stability, use bodyweight to start!

Have elbows fully locked or fully bent Shrug shoulders & traps How to execute : Select a weight you can control on the way up and down. Maintain a soft bend in your elbow & lead with your pinkys. Imagine pulling them towards the wall either side of you. Relax your traps, dont shrug. Draw the weight up to parallel, before controlling on the way down.
