24.01.2022 Win a copy of Retrosuburbia! We have one copy of David Holmgren's new book Retrosuburbia, and two copies of Permaculture Pioneers (Kerry Dawborn and Caroline Smith) to give away to three lucky winners. To enter, jump across to the 3000acres Facebook page and follow the instructions before 5pm on the 11th April. A little bit about the book: RetroSuburbia shows how Australians can downshift and retroft their homes, gardens, communities and, above all,... themselves to be more self-organised, sustainable and resilient into an uncertain future. It promises a challenging but exciting mix of satisfying work, a more meaningful way of living and hope for the next generation. RetroSuburbia is part manual, part manifesto, informed by Holmgren’s global contribution as permaculture co-originator, leading permaculture practitioner and teacher, and world renowned ecological thinker. The book creatively explores the role of the Australian suburbs in activating the behavioural changes, cooperative based actions and practical solutions required for a rapid transformation to a carbon-positive low energy future.

19.01.2022 Brunswick grant project needs your vote! 3000acres have a project up for public vote as part of Pick My Project grants that we're SUPER excited about: the Wheelie Good Fleet! Imagine community gardens and groups around Melbourne saving money, having access to more resources and running better events. The Wheelie Good Fleet is equipment for community groups on wheels: specially fitted trailers which can be moved from site to site. This includes a Wheelie Good Shed, Wheelie Go...od Greenhouse, Wheelie Good Pantry (including equipment for preserving, passata/jam making, etc) and a Wheelie Good Press (taking our Olives to Oil project on the road!) Please take two minutes to register and select the Wheelie Good Fleet for a grant. While you're there, why not support two other amazing nearby initiatives: "A Fitzroy Community garden for Everyone!" and "An inclusive food growing hub for Abbotsford"! https://pickmyproject.vic.gov.au//the-wheelie-good-fleet-t
15.01.2022 Only a few hours left to support the 3000acres crowdfunding campaign! We don't charge membership fees for our gardens and we always help community groups for free, but starting a new garden does require some cash. We're going to use the money we raise to start a new garden in Melbourne next year and we'll even include honeybees if we get to $14000. So, if you'd like to give some money to this great cause, time to get your skates on! (P.s. Patagonia are still matching every dollar pledged, so you donations go twice as far!)
13.01.2022 Our mushrooms are growing! Drop by over the next few weeks to check them out and harvest some for home (but please leave enough for others to share). A particularly good time to come by would be this Sunday ay 11 when the Jewell Garden: Bees workshop is happening! Thanks to Cottage Botanical for showing us hows it's done and Phase One Coffee for looking after them on their top shelf for the last three weeks.
