23.01.2022 November!!! What??? Yes, apparently it's November. ... Happy Birthday Month to all the November babies out there! How are you celebrating this year? November babies celebrate with a choice of two birthstones, citrine and topaz. Topaz comes in a wide variety of colours, the most expensive colour is a deep orange shade with pink undertones, known as imperial topaz. Most people believe topaz to be blue but did you know that most blue topaz isn't naturally blue? It is white/clear and when heated becomes blue. Citrine is also known as healing quartz, legend has it that citrine promotes vitality and energy in whomever wears it. Citrine comes in various shades of yellow/orange. 19.01.2022 Another Jewellery Transformation to feast your eyes upon. The client brought in this ring, she purchased it years ago, overseas. She wanted to see if she could transform it, to use the gold and stones to create something new. ... I decided to give her some vastly different options. I like choices. Sometimes I like to begin the design process with contrasting ideas, it helps to gauge a client’s style. If you hate a design, it’s almost as helpful as if you love it. When presented with these choices, the client opted for the one that would give her the look she was after, more of a solitaire, less of a line of diamonds and she preferred the crossover style for the shoulders of the ring. There was one more request, could it be made to sit between her diamond bands? And here we are, a few months later, and she has her new ring, handmade from her own gold and diamonds, transformed and ready for a second life on the same hands. Thank you for your patience. 16.01.2022 Do you like emeralds? This client has longed for a natural emerald to add to her collection for the longest time. Pre-covid, she was overseas on a holiday and came across an emerald and diamond ring. She was mesmerised by the emerald. She instantly fell in love with the gemstone. She decided that even though she didn’t love the ring as a whole, the emerald was worth the purchase.... She was not a fan of the small claws on the emerald, the band was quite flimsy and the settings for the diamonds seemed tacked on, like an afterthought, so we set about a little re-designing work. Keeping a similar overall style, Jewellers Vault created a larger style of claw setting for the emerald, beautiful semi-bezel settings for the diamonds and a pinched-up band to really showcase the gemstones. 14.01.2022 Who loves morganite? Who loves rose gold? Did you know morganite is a variety of beryl?... What’s beryl? Some of the more well-known varieties of beryl are emerald and aquamarine! Morganite is often set in rose gold to enhance the peach and pink shades morganite is renowned for. Diamonds are also a beautiful addition and they really bring this design to life, a hidden halo, surrounding the sides of the morganite setting and sprinkled down the band to create a charming and elegant dress ring. 12.01.2022 Boy oh Boy! How fast is February flying by? Here’s a stunning piece to brighten your Thursday!... The client came in with a highly treasured blue topaz. As she told the story of its origins, it was clear the bond she shared with her grandad. While he is no longer walking this earth with us, he will forever remain in his granddaughter’s heart and mind. You see, her granddad cut this stone. What a wondrous treasure to own. While it is special to own such a treasure, imagine being able to wear it! The client had a vision for her new ring and Jewellers Vault was there to help her create it. In order to achieve the look the client was after, and to help keep the stone safe, the corners were recut by our master gemcutter. Jewellers Vault was also able to source some beautiful smoky quartz to complete the design. 11.01.2022 Getting engaged is such a special moment in a couple’s life. It’s a moment that is abundant with emotions. Now imagine that your engagement ring was handed down through generations before you. Just think of all the wondrous moments in life it has already encountered, births, deaths, fights and reconciliations. What a beautiful way to begin your engagement, with such a treasured ring. Jewellers Vault was honoured to create the wedding ring to match this client’s sentimental e...ngagement ring and at the time we discussed the downside of having pearls in an engagement ring. Pearls are soft and easily prone to damage, the surface can easily be scratched and worn away with everyday wear. At the time, the client’s priority was obviously her upcoming wedding, so we created this diamond and sapphire wedding ring to match her engagement ring, with the intention of remaking the engagement ring down the track. Well we are down the track and we have now recreated her treasured engagement ring with diamonds instead of pearls. We were able to use her own gold and centre sapphire in the new ring, so the family history that was attached to the original ring will always remain. 07.01.2022 Yip yip! Another amazing transformation! Taking this collection of old and broken jewellery the client has been collecting and transforming it into something new is always a special and exciting process.... The first step is always to check the metal, we often come across pieces that clients thought were gold and turn out to be either gold plated or silver filled, either way, we can't reuse these items. The second step is to seperate the stones from the metal. In cases like this one, where we aren't reusing the stones for this project, we put the stones in a bag and return them to the client. Next is the melting process. The gold is placed into a crucible and melted until it's glossy and completely molten, then it's poured into an ingot. Then the fun really begins. Do you remember Matilda? She gets a work out and so do our arms as we roll the gold to the required dimensions. Then it's turned up into a circle and joined. Next the hammers get a workout to round up the bangle and get it to the right size. From here a lot of filling follows to get a comfortable and appealing shape to the bangle. Then some time is spent removing any file marks with emery paper and then the polishing. Snap some photos and voila phone the client and let them know their new bangle is ready! Yip yip! So exciting! We were able to use a collection of gold from the client's jewellery box, pieces collected over a lifetime, some gifts, some broken or unworn items and a bag of gold filings from a previous job.... The client had more than enough gold to create her special family pendant. One circle for each of her children and husband with the grandchildren on the other side there's even room for some future babies Did you know a circle has special meaning in many cultures? Including the belief that circles represent life itself, so intertwining three circles that represent family members can be seen as a tribute to life and family, two things that are highly regarded as being of great importance. 04.01.2022 What to do when you inherit a treasured family heirloom when it needs some repair and restoration work? The main setting was very worn on this ring. While the claws were all still there, they were incredibly thin and fragile. The band was also worn away, this is a common occurrence when we wear more than one ring on a finger. The bands rub on each other and wear away. ... The solution? In some cases an entire remake of the ring is required and in some cases we can repair, restore and add strength to the original, that’s the case here. Jewellers Vault was able to use the client’s own gold to make two new rings that will sit either side of the original and join the three rings together. When rings are joined there is no rubbing and therefore the centre ring won’t wear away any further. A new setting was made in the same style as the original and the client’s diamond was set into the new setting all safe and secure, ready for another lifetime of memories. Adding to a ring in this way helps to create an heirloom that can be passed to the next generation one day. A gift from the past, for the future. A treasure brimming with stories and emotion. 01.01.2022 Happy 40th Birthday! Yip Yip! I love birthdays, don’t you? The story begins, early one fine Thursday morning. The sun is shining, the sky is a vivid shade of blue and I had already been at work about an hour when my phone pinged. A quick glance shows me I have an Instagram message. ... Hey beautiful And a picture. A client has sent a picture of a ring she came across that inspired her. She loves the look of the centre stone, turquoise, and would like to know if I can help her create something special for her upcoming Birthday. Well of course! I begin the search for the perfect turquoise. There are a few nice pieces, and then Bam! A supplier sends me a photo of this beauty. I forward the picture on and Wham! We both fall in love with it! The client drops by to discuss the details of the design and then things really get exciting! After giving the client the quote and receiving the go ahead, I organise the turquoise to be sent to Jewellers Vault and watch as the client’s eyes light up as she gazes upon her birthday gift, imagining it as a finished ring on her hand. Then I set to work, handmaking her wonderful gold and turquoise ring. What a way to showcase this amazing gemstone, a polished, hammered finish for the tremendous and solid band.
