24.01.2022 Some of the rarest and most demanded gemstones in the world; the Argyle Pink Diamond https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYTAmAhD6Ys

24.01.2022 Can you buy a sapphire instead of a diamond for an engagement ring? Of course! Read my blog to know why! https://jewelleryvaluersmelbourne.com.au//can-i-have-a-sa/

23.01.2022 During the Art Deco period, the "centre sapphire surrounded by diamonds" design became very popular. Even though these rings were being made during the Georgian and Victorian era, something about the Art Deco time really sprung it to life. Then came the "Princess Di" ring. A centre deep blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds in a cluster style mount. This "stamp of royal approval" arguably invigorated the style like never before. Now we find it commonly replicated all over the world but unfortunately, quality can range from very poor to exquisite! Above is a ring created by Premium Jewellery House featuring a centre medium blue Ceylon type sapphire surrounded by cushion cut diamonds; all claw set and of fine quality.

23.01.2022 This is an intricate garnet ring with fine scroll work and is an original antique piece assayed in Chester in the year 1883. A real piece of history!

16.01.2022 A diamond inclusion inside a diamond!! Was taking precautions today before heat was applied to a diamond ring in order to repair it and I came across this inclusion under the microscope! It is what seems to be a diamond inside a diamond! Some of the most exciting and rare finds in Gemmology....

14.01.2022 A beautiful natural inclusion in a Ceylon type blue sapphire seen under microscopic inspection. When identifying whether a gemstone is natural or synthetic, a vital test is inspection under magnification. What story do the inclusions tell you? Do you see bubbles suggesting it was made in a lab or angular banding showing it was pulled out of the ground? Do you see a gemstone within a gemstone or do you see bubbles? Looking through the microscope into a gemstone can tell you so much about a gemstones history or lack thereof.... Assessment of this sapphire was done by George Ojaimi @ Jewellery Valuers Melbourne

13.01.2022 Fact of the day. Rubies and Sapphires, both from the corundum family. If this stone was a little darker, it would go from being a pink sapphire to being a ruby.

11.01.2022 Just a little sneak peak

11.01.2022 Making different types of jewellery can be both difficult and time consuming. It is important to identify the labour involved in making jewellery and the cost of materials including precious gems to ascertain an accurate value. Watch the video to see a snipped of how to make a hand made sapphire and diamond ring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8uNmQaZgMY

09.01.2022 A synthetic diamond caught! The importance of quality equipment to detect SYNTHETIC DIAMONDS! A lady came in to have her almost 1ct pair of diamond earrings valued. When I put them under my long and short wave fluorescence machine I was getting rather odd results. The long wave reaction was weak green, the short wave reaction strong green and once the short wave light was switched off there was a glow. Alarm bells...its a lab grown diamond! If an incorrect valuation is made ...because this was not detected, the recepient will end up with a fake! The general reaction that occurs when a diamond is natural is, the fluorecence will be blue, stronger in the longwave, weaker in the short wave and will not have any after glow. Other fluorecence colours can occur but the condition is the longwave must always be stronger than the short wave. George Ojaimi See more

09.01.2022 The number of times I have seen men walk into a jewellery shop confused. They dont have the normal look of intrigue and excitement, its a sheer look of loss. Its beautiful at times, in fact, quite funny because the next thing that happens is the salesperson approaches him and to his relief, guidance has arrived. See, the problem with buying an engagement ring is you think to yourself, what style does she like, how much do I spend, what if she doesnt like it? 08.01.2022 Just like humans belong to families so do gemstones! Amethyst, part of the Quartz family!
