05.01.2022 A big THANK YOU to all those who participated in the 2020 Jewish House Project Shofar over the new year period. I just wanted to thank you and let you know what a huge difference you made to 20 peoples’ lives this afternoon. On Friday we put a notice on the board that someone would be coming to blow the Shofar on Sunday at four and that anyone was welcome to join us. I can’t tell you the delight in seeing 20 oldies, some using walkers and the rest just standing in the lobby... listening to the sounds of the Shofar. If it weren’t for you, none of the residents would have done the mitzvah of hearing the Shofar. Together as a community, we were able to spread the joy and mitzvah of the Shofar to individuals and families in Sydney celebrating the new year in physical isolation and unable to attend synagogue. It was so nice. We missed our chance to hear Shofar three times during the day, so the timing this afternoon was perfect. There was quite a crowd in the street. I never knew I had so many Jewish neighbours(!). and I managed to shlep along with a few guests from our lunch who would have heard it otherwise. Tizku l’mitzvos! We wish you all a happy, safe and easier year ahead.
