25.01.2022 Who needs a mobile phone? Apparently I do. My wife Kate headed off the Paris on Tuesday with two of her friends. An hour or two after I dropped them off, I realised my phone was missing.. After searching high and low I remembered I had logged it on the Sony website so I could search it. Sure enough there it was flashing at Melbourne airport. After phoning half a dozen times Kate answered. 'Why have I got your phone!!' Why indeed. It takes me 10 minutes to pack and my wife 10 days, so is it any wonder my phone found its way in to a last minute bag. Anyway, after three days thinking I could manage without my number it drove me mad and it was actually fairly painless to get another sim. Sorry if you tried to call, or left a message I would have missed.

24.01.2022 A wall of memories

23.01.2022 I am not very good with Facebook, but thanks to my many customers who have visited my page. I will try to make a few useful posts this year!!

22.01.2022 How to Frame a $100 Million Painting We have made frames for many of our customers masterpieces, but not quite a Leonardo da Vinci!! I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to have a $100 million dollar painting in my old shed on the farm. https://www.artsy.net//artsy-editorial-frame-100-million-p

19.01.2022 I do love getting photos from customers of their framed art. Obviously prints and photographs are amongst the most commonl;y framed works, but we have also made frames for all sorts of things. This was a 'paint by numbers' painting. I thought it was something that kids did, but obviously it is also far more sophisticated. I loved this historic one of a hare.

17.01.2022 Gypsy, before being retrieved from the dog catcher van. Fortunately no conviction was recorded, although Charlie did make a statement (below)

16.01.2022 I have been meaning to add a gift shop to our framing site for a while and finally got around to it. Whilst frames are our main business, I thought it would be good to list a few gift ideas from our artist friends. There is just so much 'Chinese stuff' around, it is a novelty to see unique Australian art and artifacts. Please take a look at http://justframekits.com.au/gifts/

15.01.2022 The new page is now working. It is much easier just making frames!!

14.01.2022 I am heading up to the Art and frame show in Sydney in a couple of weeks. It is a chance to see what's new, meet suppliers and get ideas. I was amused to see a banner ad for the show which had the following quote attributed to the legendary Frank Zappa - "The most important part of a painting is the frame, otherwise you don't know where the art stops and the real world begins." It has a certain good resonance about it but it didn't quite feel accurate to me, and in fact it ...isn't. The real quote is - The most important thing in art is The Frame. For painting: literally; for other arts: figuratively-- because, without this humble appliance, you can't know where The Art stops and The Real World begins. You have to put a 'box' around it because otherwise, what is that shit on the wall? (Zappa, F., & Occhiogrosso, P. (1990). Real Frank Zappa Book. Simon and Schuster.) Having taught marketing myself for many years now, I am always happy to adapt a good line, but you need to be careful changing to words of a master wordsmith. If nothing else, it gave me a moment to reflect on my misspent youth and to remember the great American Composer, Guitarist, Satirist and Song Writer Frank Zappa (1940-1993).

12.01.2022 We mainly make standard frames, but increasingly we are asked for premium frames from the Neilsen range. Nielsen offers innovative designs in a wide range of profiles and colors. This antique black frame was made for a huge Condor feather. It was a challenge as the customer didn't want the feather mounted in any way so I placed it between two sheets of perspex which worked really well and gave it a 'floating' effect.

09.01.2022 Shiny black is back in stock at last (bottom image). Please ask for a quote as it is more expensive than the other PF7 profiles. It does look great though. We are also stocking the much wider PF16 (35MM) in black only at this stage. It has different fittings because it is so much wider, and it costs a lot more, so I am just starting with stocking black.

09.01.2022 I just make frames, but my son Simon has built the 'framebuilder' application which powers the ordering process on justframekits. It looks pretty simple but it is really quite amazing and Simon is constantly improving and changing it. He is a software engineer so personally I could think of nothing worse than working on software development in my free time. I would rather ride a horse! Fortunately Simon likes it. The latest innovation that we have just rolled out is an 'artwork preview'. Random (public domain) images are loaded by default and you can preview your own artwork by simply clicking the 'select artwork' button. Have a go, it's a fun way to look at your photos or art in a frame.

08.01.2022 Movie posters are favourites to frame. Must have supplied frame klits for hundreds of them over the past few years

06.01.2022 Framing jigsaws is popular and presents a few challenges. To glue or not to glue? I do not pretend to be a jigsaw expert myself, but most customer feedback I have received tends to prefer to loose lay the jigsaws if possible. They are all different though, so it is best to contact me first so we can work out the best solution for your needs. The largest frame I have supplied for a jigsaw was 190 x 140cm!!! I only supplied the frame for that one though, not the backboard and perspex as I can't manage that big. This jigsaw was really big as well. What an achievement. After all that work, framing is essential.

05.01.2022 How strange it is stuck at home in the middle of this horrible covid epidemic. We are very fortunate living on a farm as at least we have plenty of space, and our horses and dogs think it is great having everyone home all the time. I assumed business would crash but the reality is I have been really busy as people find time for all their unframed projects. There have also been lots of frames for jigsaw puzzles and so, so many diamond dotz. To be honest I had never even heard of them This is an example (below) from one of my very patient customers who completed (and framed) ten of them.

02.01.2022 Freight - everyone loves free freight but somewhere along the line you are paying for it. I could increase the frame prices but I would rather keep the prices reflecting the true cost. For the last couple of years we have subsidized freight heavily, particularly for Queensland N.T. and W.A. You do deserve to be penalised for having much warmer climates than Victoria. We will still often not recover our freight cost but I will raise Qld, N.T. and WA by $5 compared to the other States.

02.01.2022 Amazing outdoor series shared by one of our customers. They are printed on aluminium, with JFK frames.

01.01.2022 I have resisted using Facebook for ages, but I keep getting notifications that people are looking for justframkits. so I will try to do a few posts. Justframekits certainly is a real business and please do visit our webpage at www.justframekits.com.au
