22.01.2022 Today is "#"(èr yuè èr), the 2nd day of the 2nd month of the lunar calendar ( nóng lì ). It’s also called "#(lóng tái tóu) festival", meaning #Dragon r...aising its head. Ancient Chinese believed that this day remarks the beginning of spring and farming. On this day, the dragon is awakened from winter sleep and brings rain. The ancient emperors would lead officials in ploughing to pray for favorable weather and good harvest. Thus people also call this day "Ploughing Festival" ( chn gng jié). A fun tradition on this day is to get a hair cut ( l fà), which people believe will bring them good luck. 05.01.2022 Yes, non-heritage primary school aged children can learn to read Chinese, even in a once a week program! Better Chinese's My First Chinese Reader curriculum provides the structure required to build up literacy. Digital presentation enables students to listen, read and watch at the same time and makes engaging the whole class and differentiation much much easier. For an example of what children can achieve, see this video from Chinese for Families Adelaide. https://youtu.be/FhYvXPW4Y4k
