22.01.2022 Today is "#"(èr yuè èr), the 2nd day of the 2nd month of the lunar calendar ( nóng lì ). It’s also called "#(lóng tái tóu) festival", meaning #Dragon r...aising its head. Ancient Chinese believed that this day remarks the beginning of spring and farming. On this day, the dragon is awakened from winter sleep and brings rain. The ancient emperors would lead officials in ploughing to pray for favorable weather and good harvest. Thus people also call this day "Ploughing Festival" ( chn gng jié). A fun tradition on this day is to get a hair cut ( l fà), which people believe will bring them good luck. Better Chinese's My First Chinese Reader curriculum provides the structure required to build up literacy. For an example of what children can achieve, see this video from Chinese for Families Adelaide. https://youtu.be/FhYvXPW4Y4k
