25.01.2022 New black and white paintings in the studio by Marjorie Spencer Nungarai. Marjorie Paints the bush onion dreaming ( Cyperus bulbosus Vahl )The painting represents the grass of the Bush onion (Yalke) as its spreads creating a flower pattern along dry river beds in Central Australia. When the grass of the bush onion has dried out, the Warlpiri women must skilfully dig out the onion which is eaten raw or cooked in the hot sand by the fire. The Bush onion is of significance to Aboriginal people who own this dreaming and totem and can only be collected according to law. The women pay homage to the spirit of the bush onion in their ceremonies. Work in progress is 180 x 120 cm other paintings pictured are 30 x 30 cm. https://www.jilaarts.com.au/

21.01.2022 More beautiful work from our studio, these colours what more do I need to say? https://www.jilaarts.com.au/ Clarise is part of a large family of artists, her mother Teresa Baker a Pitjantjatjara women from Kanpi, her Aunty Kani Tukin and Grandmother Kay Baker are all famous aboriginal artists. Learning from her mother about country and the sacred stories associated with her dreaming. Clarise has one son Darius. This is the country for Malilu. She is a creation being from the ...Tjukurpa (Dreamtime). She has been dancing, performing Inma important ceremonial dancing for this country and she has left her dancing tracks behind in the sand. Malilu was a crippled woman and her two daughters had run off to get married, leaving her to fend for herself. It was very hard for her to collect bush foods and water because she had to drag her leg as she walked. Through much effort she collected desert raisins, bush tomatoes, berries and many different kinds of wild foods. See more

02.01.2022 Some new pieces added to our website, the depth in colour, design and pattern tell the real story. Joylene Reid Napangarti is a Pintupi woman from Walungurru (Kintore), and area to the west of Alice Springs. These paintings shows the song lines or travel lines of the tingari, the desert’s ancient, creational figures, moving through the countryside near Joylene’s home of Tjukurla. Rockhole and ceremony sites of the area. Joylene’s choice of colours usually represent the more traditional pigments used for ground designs and body decoration. Her sense of design and movement shows the close association between painted images and the physical landscape. Check them out at https://www.jilaarts.com.au/
