25.01.2022 Our rooms remain open under the Stage 4 restrictions. You do not need to live within 5km of our rooms to attend for care. For your safety and ours we are conducting consultations via telehealth wherever clinically appropriate. This will not only reduce the risk of person to person transmission of COVID19, it reduces the likelihood that our practice staff and surgeon will be required to close the practice and quarantine for two weeks, during which time we would be unable to pr...ovide face to face care to individuals - including surgery for trauma and emergency conditions. There are many healthcare workers across Melbourne who are in quarantine; our staff are well and we hope to keep things that way. Thank you for your understanding as we deliver care differently. Keeping apart keeps us together - and allows us to keep delivering face to face care to those who need it most.

24.01.2022 Dont wait until its too late! Ear shape abnormalities are one of the most common congenital deformities, affecting 4-5% of the population. 23.01.2022 "Whats the gist with arm lifts? Brachioplasty surgery is performed to reshape the under portion of the arm between the shoulder and elbow. The surgery removes excess skin and fat, giving a more toned appearance. It is most commonly performed in women over the age of 35 and in patients who have undergone significant weight loss. Individuals who have excessive fat in their upper arms without lax skin can achieve great brachioplasty results with liposuction alone, but in most p...atients excision of skin is also required. For more information regarding brachioplasty you can visit the website https://jilltomlinson.com/body/brachioplasty. New cosmetic surgery appointments with Dr Tomlinson can be arranged by calling the rooms on (03) 9427 9596."
21.01.2022 Solar keratoses and Bowens disease are common precancerous skin conditions that are the result of sun damage. Even if you have been careful about sun exposure in recent years, you may have accumulated sufficient ultraviolet (UV) exposure that you are at risk of continuing to develop these conditions in the future. Dr Tomlinson may suggest a prescription topical ointment to treat your lesions, and as it is mandatory to avoid sun exposure throughout and immediately after treat...ment, it is preferable to use this therapy during winter months. 19.01.2022 Our "See & Treat Service" is a popular option that allows you to access specialist plastic surgery services in the most convenient way possible. We have developed this service because we recognise that your time is important and that it is not easy to take time off work to have a procedure done. The most common procedures are removal of moles, benign skin irregularities and ear gauge repair. All the procedures are performed under local anaesthetic and we have a diathermy ("cautery") machine to minimise bleeding and bruising. To learn more about our See & Treat Service, our strict conditions, and review our instructions about arranging a See & Treat procedure, please visit our website: https://jilltomlinson.com/see-treat-service
18.01.2022 Do you have a My Health Record? If you have a My Health Record and undergo surgery in hospital or in our rooms through our practice we will upload an Event Summary for you that includes (where applicable) your pathology results and details of the type of prosthesis used in your surgery. You will be able to access this information any time you wish, and so will healthcare practitioners who are involved in your clinical care now or in the future. If you wish not to have this i...nformation uploaded you can simply let us know, when we ask, that you wish to opt out. To find out more about My Health Record or to register for one visit: https://myhealthrecord.gov.au or phone 1800 723 471.
18.01.2022 Part of our 2020 COVIDsafe approach involves using telehealth wherever it is a safe and appropriate way to consult with our patients. Our preferred approach is via videoconsultation, so that you can see and hear Dr Tomlinson. For many years we have required a doctor's referral before booking your appointment, so that we can identify and treat emergency conditions without delay. In 2020 we have increasingly asked prospective patients to send us photographs of the proposed tr...eatment area so that we can determine whether we can offer a telehealth consultation. Telehealth is extremely COVIDsafe and also allows you to maintain contact with your surgeon if you, she or essential clinic staff are required to isolate due to cold or flu-like symptoms, or due to contact with a suspected or proven COVID19 positive individual. We know that many of our patients are waiting for updated information about the resumption of elective surgery. Currently this looks to be some weeks away, although this is purely our guestimate. When we know more we will contact all of our affected patients to offer surgical dates, and to explain any requirements (such as pre-surgical COVID testing and self-isolation). We are still conducting rooms procedures under stage 4 restrictions; Dr Tomlinson and her nurse wear masks and face shields during these procedures and we have multiple processes in place to minimise the risk of COVID transmission. If you have any questions about these processes or our COVIDsafe plan please ask. The photo in this post details the process of consultation, procedure and follow up for infant ear tag excision under our COVIDsafe telehealth pathway. Not all patients and conditions are suitable to have their initial consultation and follow up via telehealth, but if you are able to provide us with photographs these will be viewed by Dr Tomlinson who will determine whether your appointment should be in person, or whether a telehealth appointment is possible. If you prefer an in person appointment to a telehealth appointment please let us know, we are happy to accommodate your preferences.

15.01.2022 Why is compression therapy so important? Compression therapy can be vital in the postoperative period to minimise swelling and bruising, reduce pain, stabilise implants, shape your new contours and minimise the occurrence of scarring. At Dr Tomlinsons rooms we stock Lipoelastic Compression Garments, and nursing staff will educate you on their use prior to your surgical procedure. Our nursing staff will also provide you with advice on scar management, including massage and t...opical treatment options. 13.01.2022 Our practice has mechanisms to protect our patients and staff while we continue to provide healthcare services. We have moved all patients to telehealth (phone or video) consultations, except where we have previously confirmed the requirement for an in-person physical examination or wound care. Only emergency surgery is being conducted in hospitals for the foreseeable future, in keeping with Government directives. We continue to hold in-person consultations for physical exami...nations and procedures such as skin biopsies. If our practice is unable to physically open for business in the weeks or months ahead we will communicate this to existing scheduled patients via email and SMS (please do not attempt to reply other than with Y or N to an SMS, as the automated system does not facilitate this). Incoming telephone calls and receipt of voicemail messages may be temporarily affected by such a change. We will use this website banner to update you on changes to our practice in the weeks and months ahead. Thank you for your understanding as our entire community works through these unprecedented and rapidly evolving times together.

11.01.2022 Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. Excessive sweating can have major effects on your professional or personal life. The treatment reduces sweati...ng by 90% by blocking signals between the nerves and sweat glands. 08.01.2022 With the ongoing high numbers of COVID19 infections in Victoria we have escalating the steps that we are taking to protect our patients, colleagues and community from spread of the virus. We are offering telehealth appointments wherever these are clinically appropriate. Because it is not possible to physically distance during a face to face medical consultation you will notice that Dr Tomlinson and Nurse Beth wear a mask during your consultation, and we are requesting that ...our patients strongly consider wearing a mask when they leave home for their medical appointment. Our staff also have access to face shields, which are worn in conjunction with a mask during all rooms procedures. Hospitals have introduced new requirements this week, including - postponement of category 3 surgeries - mask requirements for all who enter - no visitors Our rooms remain open and our staff are well. We aim to keep it that way so we can continue to provide care to our patients throughout the pandemic. Your safety and that of our community is vital, so please #MaskUpMelbourne

06.01.2022 A preauricular skin tag, also called an accessory tragus, is a common extra part to the ear that is present at birth and, if left alone, continues to grow as a child grows. Embryologically speaking ears are extremely complex things, and its not uncommon that occasionally there are small extra nubbins of tissue that develop as the ears form. These small nubbins contain skin, fat and cartilage. If your baby is born with a preauricular skin tag, removal of the extra tissue can be performed easily under local anaesthetic as a rooms procedure when a child is in the first months of life. For more information about management of preauricular skin tags / accessory tragus, please visit our website: https://jilltomlinson.com//preauricular-skin-tag-accessory
06.01.2022 Ear molding is a method to correct congenital ear deformities that is even simpler and easier than dental braces for crooked teeth. We offer Melbournes only specialist ear molding service and are delighted to be able to assist parents who have concerns about their newborns ears. Ear molding can correct ear deformities and prevent the need for ear surgery later in life. Ear molding should be started in the first weeks of life to achieve the best results. The younger the infant at the time of commencing ear molding, the quicker it takes to achieve improvement in ear shape, and the better the results. To learn more about ear molding please visit our website: https://jilltomlinson.com/ears/ear-molding or contact the rooms on (03) 9427 9596.
