20.01.2022 Although this report suggests not using tablets at all, we still suggest a trial of one of the newer non-drowsy antihistamines for quick short term relief. If this doesn't work, or if symptoms persist, we recommend daily use of a "cortisone" based nasal spray to reduce swelling and relieve/prevent symptoms.There are a few choices now available without a prescription.The main message though is that these sprays sometimes take a couple of days before you notice a big improvement. 05.01.2022 Paracetamol Overdose Warning!! We find quite often in our pharmacy that people don't realise that a lot of common products (all pictured below) contain paracetamol. Taking a combination of these products at the same time can result in very serious side effects. For example, if you are sick with the flu, and you start to take a range of products to target various symptoms you are potentially overdosing on paracetamol. The MAX amount of paracetamol that can be taken for an adul...t is 8 tablets in 24 hours. If you were to take inadvertently as little as 12 x 500mg tablets per 24 hours for only two consecutive days or more you would need to get yourself to hospital. The main message here is with any of these products is to take note of the amount of paracetamol in each tablet and factor in that the maximum amount of paracetamol that can be taken by an average size adult is 4000mg over 24 hours. Put simply do not exceed 8 x 500mg tablets of paracetamol over a 24 hour period. See more
