25.01.2022 Lets face it.....Sometimes things happen out of the blue. Storms, floods, we seem to be getting it all at the moment. We have a 24 hr seven day emergency service, so if you get stuck, we may be able to help.

24.01.2022 For all of the people that ring and (without even introducing themselves) want a price over the phone for wiring their chandelier, installing their IXL tastic and blah blah blah...... A) I dont give quotes without seeing the job. This is to protect both you, and me. B)I wont tell you how to install and connect the whatever you bought at Bunnings or Beacon......I enjoy having a licence. Please stop ringing and asking . I know light switches can be confusing, when youre a pl...umber......or a mechanic. C) DIY electrical work is still illegal in this country. No, I wont sign off on the house that your cousin wired up. No, I dont care if he did one year at TAFE. D) When we leave, your house will not burn down, due to an electrical fault...... Below is a photo of why you shouldnt do your own electrical work.......Not something I personally encountered, but weve seen some dodgey stuff....... See more

24.01.2022 The new generation of hubless WiFi smart home automation is here...... Want to turn your lights on with a voice command, or perhaps get an SMS notification if your door (or pool gate) is opened? Would you like to receive an SMS if a motion detector is activated on your property, perhaps prompting you to check your WiFi camera feed on your phone to make sure all is well? If that is the sort of convenience/ security that appeals to you, we are happy to provide the solutions for... you! We work closely with Aussie Electrical at McGraths Hill and with the nowE developer to custom design your automation needs. This technology is available now. See more

24.01.2022 A couple of larger jobs over the last week or two. Underground 35sq mm supply to a studio and stable complex, including the rough in and fitout. Straight from there to the electrical fitout of a large shed. Busy, long days, as we are booked up until mid November. Big thanks to Sean Campbell ( as always) and my boys Jack and Mitch for going out of their way to help get these jobs done. Thanks also Lawrence and Hanson Windsor for timely deliveries.

23.01.2022 Very specific Work Health and Safety procedures on our job today.......

22.01.2022 The last couple of days of this week were spent in the Goulburn area wiring a shed , including undergrounds, and sub board. Often customers that move away ask us if we would continue looking after their electrical needs......even in regional areas. What’s not to love about working in such beautiful parts of Australia.....? With Sean Campbell, and Paul and Luka Racklyeft ( who put us up, and fed us )....and multiple kelpies.

22.01.2022 Recently, we started work installing electrical and security equipment at Say When Cafe in Woy Woy. The owner Dave and his staff are working hard to make an awesome music themed eatery where you can enjoy great coffee , food and company. Challenges a-plenty face anyone when embarking on a venture like this during this Covid pandemic.......So, we are happy to have been able to help. Thanks L and H Windsor for supplying us with some specialty breakers and process equipment. If you visit Woy Woy, please go along and support this awesome Cafe.......

21.01.2022 Recent work done by Jim Douglas Electrical includes this underground supply to new poletop LED lighting, including excavation and concreting new footings. Work done for a private property in the Hawkesbury.

21.01.2022 Always nice to receive great feedback, thanks Chris for taking the time to thank us.

19.01.2022 Do you know, we also stock and supply temporary switchboards.......Ideal for builders supply whilst building or renovating. These boards are tested, tagged, and ready to go. Competitive hire rates, and installation available.

16.01.2022 So..... After 15 years, my supplier has called it a day. A family business, that supported Jim Douglas Electrical when we were doing it tough, and could not pay our accounts on time, a company who has always tried to be helpful, and supportive. Thank you Nick, and Amanda Geale for being the best wholesaler that a guy could ever deal with. A big Fuck you to Bunnings and others, who support unlicensed electrical work, cheap non- compliant parts, and general pricing that means other electrical suppliers and contractors will go broke whilst home owners do their own unlicensed work.

16.01.2022 Ahhhh, the warmer weather is here to signify a time where absolutely everyone wants their lighting redone, fans installed, pumps fixed, outdoor area rejuvenated, flat remodelled and air conditioners installed, irrigation working etc, all at once. In the two hours a day I have to myself, I have taken up colouring in to relieve my stress.

14.01.2022 So, after thirty years of using HPM/ legrand products, I have decided to use other brands. Why? Pay attention other electrical contractors. You can walk into Bunnings and buy an XL777we double powerpoint for $7.10 full retail price. From my wholesaler my price (which is a trade price with a decent discount) is $7.95 plus GST.... Let that sink in. I either buy from Bunnings (if I want this specific product), or I am paying more than my customers can buy it direct for. So...... one or more of these things must be happening.... A) HPM sell to Bunnings at a large discount, who then can undercut ANY electrical wholesaler. B)Bunnings are selling at a loss to eliminate the competition C)Wholesalers are getting ripped off by their suppliers D) Wholesalers are ripping electricians off. Either way, there is no benefit in carrying this product as a stock item in my truck, as there is no money in buying and on selling to my customers. Obviously neither Bunnings or HPM support electrical contractors..... Bye bye HPM, its been fun.

14.01.2022 Interesting (and busy) week for us.....Poor connection of a pole top transformer (Endeavour) caused a burnt out winding due to single phasing of a customers 37 kW irrigation pump. Reconditioned pump set carried down the river bank using an excavator, installed , connected and tested on the same day. Awesome crew. Customer even cooked us a BBQ lunch Another highlight for us this week was welding up a new post to replace a broken garden light post for one of our great customers.......we had to match other lights on the property, and pole base was concreted into a rockery. Small job, but one that took care.

13.01.2022 We were recently given the task of replacing the pump controls at Leppington Dairy, with our good friends Inca Control. Existing controls had become problematic, so we had to remove the old process controller, power supplies and switchboard door...... Then we painstakingly worked our way through about 300 control cables, worked out what was relevant, and what wasnt. New door fitted, variable speed drive keypads installed, along with switchable voltmeter, and colour touch screen / PLC. Lots of challenges along the way.......

13.01.2022 Recently we were called to investigate nuisance tripping of C- bus lighting circuit breakers. We have done several C- bus jobs over the years, and one of the challenges are that when a group of lights are switched,an intermittent fault can trip the whole relay supply. In this case, the fault was traced to a flooded garden wall light.

12.01.2022 We have been very busy over the last few weeks, as we slide on into summer. Here is a typical Before and After of a customers domestic switchboard. Current Australian Standards no longer accept fuses or circuit breakers as adequate protection of lighting, power and water heater circuits in your home. To help increase safety on older homes, we are often called to re-fit switch boards to comply with todays rules.Usually this work is a reasonably quick and straight forward task.

12.01.2022 So awesome to be involved with Say When cafe at Woy Woy. We were engaged to wire up some of the process heat, exhaust, and coffee machine and front counter, along with security. To say that this year has been a tough year to open a cafe would be a massive understatement...... Congrats Dave Howard. I wish you guys all the best with these awards, and many others. Simply the best place for a coffee and a feed on the central coast.

12.01.2022 The start of a large shed wiring project..... Supply from demolished shed extended, and conduit run into the shed with new three phase supply cable, in readiness for the concrete pour.

11.01.2022 Today, at one of the most beautiful properties on the Hawkesbury river that we look after, we were tasked with repairing faulty lighting on a tennis court ( which was a damaged radio receiver module used for remote switching), which then damaged an RCD safety switch. After rectifying these issues, we then replaced a stainless steel lighting bollard which was damaged when hit by a quad bike.......Such a nice day to work out doors

10.01.2022 So, a new customer complained of getting electric shocks from pipes etc , so upon investigation I found NO earth stake, no main earth at all in fact. The switchboard was upgraded about five years ago...... Wow, theres some pretty special tradesmen out there. Oh, by the way, he even did the neighbouring property too. I took the liberty of checking that too......Yep, no earth there either.... I do know who did the work, but wont name them. This is their idea of a neat and thorough job....... See more

10.01.2022 Did you know, we also repair and re-condition water pumps, from small domestic pressure pumps to golf courses, turf farms and industrial pumps. Recently a customer was noticing a reduction in performance in an irrigation pump, so we stripped the pump and re built it on site. In this case, the front impeller had torn itself apart, so the pump was effectively running at about 50%. New shaft seal ,impellers and volute installed.Dirty job......

07.01.2022 Are you about to excavate, or dig a trench.......? Not sure what lies underneath the dirt? We are fully equipped to do your underground cable and pipe locating. We provide this service for many people, including large building companies, to give peace of mind before construction begins. A comprehensive report of our findings is then emailed to you.

07.01.2022 Advances in home automation and in particular WiFi controllers like Google home etc, mean that people with disability or illness can now customise their home to suit. For me, it is one of the most valuable ways in which technology can benefit humanity.

07.01.2022 Something I expect we will start to see more of in the future......We installed our first Tesla electric car charger today.

06.01.2022 Problems with old irrigation pump controls at a large nursery in Sydney, coupled with no documentation or labelling of previous work done by previous sparkies finally led to the design and installation of a bespoke control panel, featuring dual variable speed drive, real time pressure monitoring, remote SMS access, and beautiful touch screen controls. We were tasked with band aid solutions to keep them operational, until we could install and commission our new panel. Pump downtime? Six hours.

06.01.2022 We are incredibly proud to use and recommend nowE products, and work closely with the developer of these awesome products to ensure that they fit your home, AND your lifestyle. If better security, convenience and peace of mind would be of benefit to you and your family, we are happy to introduce you to the world of affordable home automation.

05.01.2022 An absolute pleasure to do this job......Challenges a plenty, interfacing components made by different companies. The results are next level. This particular job is in Melbourne.

05.01.2022 As Beacon Lighting preferred electricians, our suggestion is this : If you are considering ceiling fans as part of your next home improvements, why not install them during the months leading into spring/ summer? As the warm weather hits, we are often inundated with fan installation work, and the wait can be hot and uncomfortable........ If you use Jim Douglas Electrical, you will also benefit from an additional twelve months warranty on your Beacon Lighting supplied fans.

04.01.2022 A burst pipe in the vicinity of this irrigation panel caused catastrophic damage, so we were engaged to remove the old board, supply, install and program the new unit, and commission it. We worked alongside Fixed Pumps (Grant Evans) on this job. Fantastic result.

04.01.2022 A good customer was awoken by their cat behaving strangely on Thursday night, and they found this....... It is a cheap four gang switch supplied as part of an IXL tastic purchased from a certain big green hardware store. Apparently IXL have a kind of budget range where they cut costs by supplying cheaper switches. From the hardware , the cost is around $150. From an electrical supplier a similar model is supplied with a quality HPM switch for around $250.... So.....now the item they chose has an added cost of a service call from us, and a new HPM four gang switch. Still worth buying cheap? Choose wisely, your safety is at stake, potentially...... 04.01.2022 Ceiling fans installation at a yoga hall recently, required the use of a scaffold, which was actually supplied by the customer. We were working surrounded by soft matting on the floor, so that we would not mark or damage the timber.

03.01.2022 We absolutely love designing the lighting and ventilation layouts to complement your perfect outdoor area. Warm evenings with great friends enjoying beautiful food, wine and company.......Perfect

02.01.2022 We are proud to be associated with Wildcat Conservation Centre, and today we installed lighting in part of the Cheetah enclosure. Not something we experience every day, being in such close proximity to these beautiful animals, so thank you to Ben and Kahlia for letting us work at your awesome facility again. The parts that we installed were donated to the Wildcat Conservation Centre by Lawrence and Hanson Windsor, and Jim Douglas Electrical.

02.01.2022 We work closely with this wonderful company, to give customers an integrated simple solution for their WiFi based home automation. Great quality equipment.

01.01.2022 The internals of your water pump are out of sight.....but should they be out of mind? This is a pump we recently re conditioned. It had a heap of iron build up, a fractured second impeller, a first impeller that had torn itself off the hub, and a badly worn (but not yet leaking) shaft seal. And, yes, it was still in service as a drinking water house pump. The pump was completely dismantled, new impellers, housing and seals fitted, mating surfaces inspected and cleaned, and re assembled and wet tested on our flow bench. As good as new.

01.01.2022 We are proud to be involved with the restoration of the old buildings at Scheyville National Park. These beautiful buildings have a colourful history, and have been migrant camps, training camps for boys, Vietnam war era officers training corps, womens hospital and other things through the years. The last week or so, we have repaired and replaced lighting around these buildings and courtyards.

01.01.2022 We are proudly currently involved in water and energy saving initiatives for National Parks NSW. Timed showers and more efficient hot water systems are being installed by us across some areas of Sydney. It is challenging work to complete without extended interruption of ammenities for the picnickers and campers.

01.01.2022 Ok, this week we completed the large shed fit out, with three phase power, LED lighting, power rolladoors, and external flood lighting. We are very happy with the finished result, what do you think?
