International trade negotiations formed the basis of the architecture of APEC Haus. We responded with an architectural language based on the strong cultural sym...bolism evident in the traditional hiri trade of Motu Koitabu culture. The dominant roof form and central art piece are contemporary references to the crab-claw shape sails found on traditional Motuan ‘lakatoi’ boats used during trade journeys".
