24.01.2022 The term Handmade creates significant meaning in my life, despite the dirty, destructive and time consuming process of making. It is about creation, journey, and mindfulness. I love the creative mindful time of making at my bench. After the cutting, sawing, hammering, soldering and cleaning, I take them to an industrial powder coating service. I was lucky enough to find Raglan Powder Coating I have been working with for over 5 years and they do an excellent job. Especially ...before the stage 4 restrictions! The last time I placed an order, I experimented with pink and green earrings which are colours I haven’t produced together before, and it turns out they are a great colour combination. Looking forward to Spring and the time I can go back to the studio. I desperately need to brighten up my mind like this work. Handmade + pink + green + hope + flourish. 22.01.2022 Making samples of forms and structures inspired by Mycelium Window I moved my ideas onto bigger paper than the visual diary. Looking for better shapes from window and frame this abstract piece is created using coloured pencils on white paper then completed with spray paint onto perforated sheets to add texture. For this work I was trying to find shape, form and colour and happy that I can still utilise perforation as an element of the pattern in this two-dimensional work. The colour has been changed from blue to red tones but I love the final texture. I will try more of abstract paintings but next time use with acrylic paint with proper paper. 14.01.2022 Precious silver and red hexagons neckpiece as part of the show Ohmaebulmang (Unforgettableness) @egetal in 2016. The colour was metallic silver called ‘precious silver’ and I loved the contrast with the little red hexagons I started to use at that time. Since I participated in LOOT 2015 I have been so mesmerised by creating statement necklaces. It was so good to see a couple of mates other than family as well and talked to them in person. 09.01.2022 Show us your Rona exhibition organized by @lazyliberty and @annamaiay @tempcontemp. It is on @bridgetkennedy_projectspace now. It was so great to see everyone on zoom meeting this morning. The work I am submitting for the show is the image of "The COVID hoarding cake", which was created by my husband, Kevin Passmore for my birthday this year. It is definitely not a jewellery piece but this is the cake for Jin Ah Jo, a Korean Australian contemporary jewellery artist. It was ...so delicious made my birthday so much fun. Kevin has created a cake for celebrating my birthday every year and I have included the collaged photo of it, "cake for 9 years". When there was a COVID-19 outbreak we all remember the panic buying of toilet paper. In the end we couldn't see or get toilet paper from the supermarket at all for a while. Considering we rarely experience panic buying, it was confronting and is still quite shocking to people. 04.01.2022 I form perforated mild steel into sharp geometric structures retaining its original character and qualities This transforms the steel from its manufacturing origins into a wearable piece of contemporary jewellery that explores shape and space. By forming this incredible metal into small structures for the body it is showing how the perforation changes its visual quality with the position of the light and how it generates more depth on the body. I especially love the black pow...der coated bracelets the most. To avoid getting rust by frequent contact with water and perspiration on your wrist I powder coated these bangles with a matt black colour called Black Ace instead of blackening them with heat, oil and wax. Constructing bangles using perforated steel brings a lot of joy especially when I imagine the outcome with all different colours and structures that create different geometric qualities. Some photos on this post will be in the book New Bracelets (Nicolas Estrada) and you can get a copy early in 2021. 03.01.2022 Not like today with beautiful sunshine I took these photos on a very cloudy day last week. It was outside at my balcony and these new bangles were on the transparent black acrylic under natural light. I was really mesmerized by the reflection of the sky and and shadow of the objects. It was going into another depth that these perforated wearable objects could illustrate.
