25.01.2022 Nothing better then a post parkrun coffee.

25.01.2022 This was a very special parkrun for Katherine and Adam who lost their husband and father, Matt, on 6th January after a long battle with cancer. Matt and Katherine started doing the alphabet challenge a couple of years ago, and due to Covid couldn't finish. J was their last letter, so today Katherine and Adam finished off the alphabet challenge and ticked the J off Matt's bucket list. We're so happy they chose us as their J for this very special occasion.

22.01.2022 Happy Easter from Jindabyne parkrun, it's a beautiful day, enjoy!

22.01.2022 A big welcome to the Gungahlin Run Down Under crew who joined us in Jindabyne today. Hope you had a great run and we look forward to seeing you again.

19.01.2022 If you're missing parkrun like we are, here are some commonly used phrases from our Jindabyne run directors so you don't miss us too much... "Welcome to Jindabyne parkrun, Australias most beautiful parkrun..." "Strzelecki is always on runners right..."... "There's a white pole in the middle of the path for no apparent reason..." "if the tail walker sneaks up on you, give them the elbow and they'll back off..." "out on the grass, back on the path. Out on the grass, back on the path..." "READY FOR A JUMP SHOT?!" We miss you and hope to be back at it sooner rather than later. Take care and stay well. The Jindabyne parkrun Team

18.01.2022 A big Happy 60th Birthday to the awesome Helen who brought her whole family along to Jindabyne parkrun this morning to celebrate. It was great to celebrate with you.

18.01.2022 Good morning parkrunners. No event cancellations as yet but for your information: "I’m sure that, like us, you are closely following the developments of the COVID-19 pandemic and would therefore like to know if there will be any further event closures over the coming weeks. In the last few days, public health guidance has been updated in many countries and as such we are likely to close more parkrun countries. However, whilst we know how important it is that we update you as ...soon as possible, we must also take the time required to allow governments to develop their own positions fully, and then for us to understand as many of the facts as possible. Importantly, our overriding principle for event closures remain that we will close our events wherever official public health guidance recommends or requires. We do also understand that public health guidance can vary greatly by country, and that in itself is causing concern, in turn we may therefore close events even where not recommended or required. There are, however, a number of potential downsides to closing parkrun events, and we are taking these all into consideration. Specifically in the UK, the Chief Medical Officer has emphasised the importance of timing when it comes to various social distancing strategies, and that going too soon may do more harm than good. Also, it may be that the damage caused by the removal of parkrun as a coping and support mechanism from a community, may outweigh any increased risk of infection due to participation in a parkrun event. We will therefore be spending the early part of this week consulting with public health experts and speaking directly with national-level senior public health leaders, and we will then make our own decisions as to where our events should close and where they should stay open. Importantly, as has been our commitment from the start, we will close our events wherever official public health guidance recommends or requires. We will communicate further information re closures to you by the end of Wednesday this week (UK time). Finally, I’d personally like to thank everyone who’s put their faith and trust in our staff and volunteers. We are all committed to doing the right thing and fully understand the incredible responsibility we have in guiding parkrun through this challenge. Please stay positive, be there for each other, and know that the parkrun family is with you." Tom Williams Chief Operating Officer parkrun Global

14.01.2022 Parkruns HQ COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update Dear all, Those of you who have followed these weekly updates since early April will know that, whilst we wouldn’t rule anything out, our initial preference has been that we would only start entire parkrun countries at a time. This was based on a number of factors, but largely that the complexity of supporting numerous varied regulations, as smaller regions updated their guidance (often on a daily basis), was not practical or scalabl...e. We also felt that, over time, countries themselves would tend toward single strategies being applied to their entire populations. It is now clear, however, that this will not necessarily be the case and that sticking to our ‘entire country at a time’ preference may result in some locations being delayed considerably and unnecessarily. This despite it being safe for them to operate, and with their local guidelines allowing them to do so. Therefore, having taken time to consider the practicalities and logistics, we are now looking to start the process of reopening sub-nationally in some locations. For example, Cape Pembroke Lighthouse parkrun in the Falkland Islands and parkrun events in Australia’s Northern Territory will likely be among the first to restart. These events are geographically remote, difficult to travel to, and have clear and specific local guidelines that permit us to return. At the same time we are also exploring opportunities across more complex situations. For example, within some countries we are seeing significant differences between infection levels and associated public health guidelines (such as across the US). And in others, whilst there isn’t necessarily a significant variation with regards to the prevalence of the virus, different regions are still choosing alternative routes forward (such as the four home nations of the United Kingdom). Importantly, and as has always been the case, we will not reopen events where their delivery (in line with our published COVID-19 Framework) does not fit clearly within government or public health guidelines for their region or may result in breaching participant limits. Also, where guidance is ambiguous and clarity is required, we will take the time to seek that clarity before moving forward. Thanks, as always, for your support and patience.

13.01.2022 COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update Dear all, We’ve sought, throughout lockdown, to be consistent and transparent in our communications, and feel that having a scheduled update of our most recent position helps that. We also feel it’s important to maintain a routine, and to ensure that our community and external stakeholders can easily access our most up-to-date position.... Further, whilst the lack of confirmed return dates may appear to indicate that little has changed, significant progress is being made behind the scenes around our operational plans and protocols. This will allow us to return in time, and we continue to collaborate with the relevant bodies and agencies in different parkrun territories around the world. Over the last week particularly, we’ve seen a number of announcements as governments updated their guidance, and numerous sporting and physical activity groups responded accordingly. In some countries, we have seen the return of small-scale elite and community sports events, with various additional protocols in place. Importantly, as an independent charity with a global remit, we do not sit under any governing bodies and are therefore responsible for creating our own guidelines to return and, where required, achieving sign-off from relevant public health authorities. This work continues behind the scenes and we’ll share developments publicly as soon as it is appropriate to do so. At the same time, we continue to gather insight from parkrunners around their intentions and attitudes about returning to parkrun and, as always, decision-making needs to consider the role played by our wonderful volunteer teams. Thanks for your continued support.

11.01.2022 Frequent parkrunners will be very familiar with the response "but I can't run" when you encourage someone to join you on a Saturday morning. But anyone who's done a parkrun knows, there's no requirement to run at all! The event is definitely not just for "serious" runners. Every week there are multiple walkers and there's zero pressure to finish the 5km in a certain amount of time. The friendly volunteers are there to encourage you along the way, but we're just so happy to see anyone and everyone coming to join us and we welcome all runners, joggers and walkers of any fitness level. If you have any questions about parkrun or are nervous about your first time with us, pop us a message or email to [email protected], and we'd be happy to help. See you on Saturday morning @ 8am!

06.01.2022 Good morning parkrunners - here is the current official info regarding parkrun and Coronavirus: "Internally we have established two globally-representative working groups (composed of senior parkrun staff, key volunteers, and medical doctors) who are in continual daily contact and are respectively addressing the strategic and operational implications of COVID-19 on our communities around the world. Our current overall strategic position is that where specifically recommended ...or required by health organisations, governments, or landowners, we will close events. This includes where our events may not quite reach the full criteria, such as where gatherings of over 1,000 people are banned; in this situation we will cancel all events in that region regardless of event size. We also request that events themselves do not cancel due to COVID-19 in the absence of a central instruction from us. This is because we believe doing so may overwhelm other nearby teams with an influx of participants, and increase the amount of travel as parkrunners simply attend other events. Importantly, anyone who would prefer to not volunteer at parkrun events during this time should feel comfortable and supported in their decision. At the time of writing a number of parkrun events are closed around the world. Where we impose large-scale cancellations across parkrun regions we will directly contact all registered participants in that region, notifying them of the closure. We believe that during challenging times it is more important than ever that communities are able to come together socially and support each other if appropriate and safe. Whether or not to close all events within a specific country is a decision we take having discussed the situation at length and in great detail, internally and with external experts. Where we take the decision to keep events open, we do so in the belief that in the absence of other restrictions such as closed schools and other public facilities, parkrun events present a level of risk of infection that is not significantly greater than going about regular daily life. Where events remain open, we are not advising any changes at this time to standard event delivery processes (described in the Volunteer Hub), and events should not be providing specific guidance to participants. Finally, we would ask you all to be vigilant, to refrain from volunteering if you have flu-like symptoms, and to be mindful of the more vulnerable members of your communities. We continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis, and will provide further updates here as and when appropriate." Tom Williams Chief Operating Officer parkrun Global
