23.01.2022 In September 2020, one of our girls, Flossie, hatched three tiny chicks. I was still excited about their arrival, since this particular Madam has been known to sit for the required time only to hatch the first baby and then lose interest! After a number of violent attacks from said Madam, we decided to remove the babies from the coop and moved them to the aviary next to Miss Polly, our chatty little galah! Oh! The carry-on! I reckon if she could have worked out a way to kill ...me, she would have! However, as is the way of Mother Nature, within a day or two Flossie had forgotten about her beloved babies and spent her days bossing everyone else around. Three weeks ago, Flossie and Princess Layer hatched another 7 between them! There are babies everywhere! The September babies are now referred to as the teenagers and although we have tried to coax them to join the flock, they are content to stay where they are. See more

11.01.2022 Despite the lack of really good rain before Christmas, our little mango tree has provided us with a bountiful crop of the most beautiful fruit. Just after Christmas, some of the mangoes were dropping whilst they were still unripe and I had nightmares about missing out. Unfortunately I’m not the only one who loves their tasty flesh - our local rainbow lorikeets took quite a shine to feasting on them, so I made the decision to pick most of them (leaving some for the birds). I had my first mango for breakfast today and it was heavenly!

08.01.2022 Finally we have a name for our rooster! He was hatched here earlier this year (out of 7 hatchlings, we ended up with 5 roosters!), and he was just so beautiful we I decided to keep him. All of our previous gentlemen have been named Rocky (I, II, III, IV, and V), but it was time for something different. So thanks to our eldest daughter Aimee, he is now known as Oreo! Absolutely love the name, and because of the colour of his plumage, it suits him! I must add, the girls are thrilled with him, as after many months of striking, they are laying 5 or six eggs a day!
