25.01.2022 We're taking as many bales of hay as we can fit down to East gippsland. Calling out to any farmers around West and South gippsland who can donate and/or transport some with us, we will have a full truck and float. Trying to repay some kindness from when we were in this situation in March.

10.01.2022 Thankyou for the beautiful memories Janine Riches, our great friend and artistic collaborator! Here is to many more bohemian gatherings at Jinks Creek in the future. Just have to get through the red tape and beauracratic hurdles to rebuild our beloved community space. To all our friends and clients and artists thankyou so much for making Jinks Creek what it was and for supporting us during such tough times. We love you all and hope to reestablish our soulful home in Tonimbuk as soon as we are physically able. Thankyou everyone for wholeheartedly supporting the continuation of our very special Art and Wellness Markets as a special place of healing and regeneration. It was and still is a very special community at Jinks Creek created by the people, surrounded by the amazing physical beauty of Tonimbuk.
08.01.2022 Dear All, The Community Recovery has Just put out a media release on a number off issues affecting our community - see below. If you feel strongly about any of ...these issues including anything we may have missed we encourage you to write a letter to the Pakenham and/or Warragul Gazette’s or ring our MP Federal Russell Broadbent, State MP Garry Blackwood or MP Harriet Shing. Please email us on [email protected] should you wish to raise your concerns with the Recovery Committee. We are seeking your support and we need to work together to ensure our community receives exactly the same support and consideration other Fire affected communities are receiving. It’s a matter of equality and justice. The Forgotten Fires Bad to Worse The Community Recovery Committee Bunyip Complex Fires' has great empathy and compassion for all those people experiencing the recent horrific bushfires. Having been through exactly the same experience only 10 months ago and still working through the recovery process we completely understand the financial and emotional support that is so vital to the recovery process and the mental toll that is experienced by the members of the affected communities. Many of us still haven’t started rebuilding and are still going through the arduous clean up and permit phase. Not one family or individual who lost a home has yet completed their rebuilding. They will not have a new home for many months and as a result are suffering extreme financial and emotional hardship. The CRC, after a hard fought battle and with the support and advocacy of Russell Broadbent MP and the Pakenham Gazette, finally got access to National Disaster Relief Funds in December 2019 - 8 months after the event. This enabled amongst other benefits a payment of $1000 per adult affected plus $400 per child. It has now transpired the Federal Government Hotline is advising Bunyip Fire victims they are no longer eligible because six months has expired as the Bunyip Fires commenced on the 1st of March. The fact we didn’t get the Disaster Relief funding till December 2019 matters not. Further, the Federal Human Services website has June 2020 as the cut off date. On the surface this disgraceful situation appears to be a classic example of bureaucratic bumbling rather than an insensitive, mean spirited, cost cutting government. No matter it requires immediate resolution. The simple and just resolution to all of the above is that victims of the Bunyip Complex Fires are immediately included and afforded the same relief, support and funding criteria as victims of the current horrific fires. This includes the new funding support offered by the Federal Government Disaster Relief Funds, the recent announcement of the Free Property Clean Up by the State government and the Red Cross, $10,000 Emergency grant to those who lost their homes. The families and individuals who lost their homes here and indeed everything they owned are still suffering extreme, worsening emotional and financial hardship. The Bunyip Complex Fires, 30 homes destroyed, 297 households, farms and businesses profoundly financially and emotionally impacted, no disaster relief funding for 8 months and now cut off again. They call us the forgotten fires. Tony Fitzgerald President
