25.01.2022 This week we are continuing to run classes but will be closely watching all government health updates in regards to the closure of educational institutions. Our thoughts are with all those effected by covid19.

25.01.2022 One of our favourite lyrics from the concert happening this weekend. The chord progression that underlines this phrase is also pretty nice.

23.01.2022 Sharing the joy of singing through this difficult time. What a beautiful idea

22.01.2022 Weve just finished concert week! Every student was invited to sing a solo during their normal lessons which was then recorded. The solos will be put into a short movie and shared with the parents. Unfortunately an in-person concert isnt possible at the moment but we can still share our progress with our parents and families. Thanks to our Jirani bears for being such a supportive audience.

22.01.2022 Morning folks. Weve finished our classes for the term but I wanted to share with you a song Ive just learned. The tune is the good ol Shorting Bread song but there are new words. Thanks Allison Davies for sharing this fun music.

21.01.2022 Cathy and I finally found some time to meet up and chat about life, music and plans for our Jirani classes. We are so busy during term time that it was lovely to not be rushed and have the time to catch-up together.

21.01.2022 This year Jirani welcomes a new teacher to help us spread our love of singing, give a warm welcome to Cathy Cheel. Cathy grew up in South Africa before moving to Australia and brings a wealth of experience. Cathys passion is to impart a love of music and a sense of belonging through choir.

21.01.2022 Today I asked the Juniors, "What does acapella mean?" The response I got was, "Umm, it sounds like a Star Wars character!" I like her thinking but weve got a bit more work to do here.

20.01.2022 So whos seen the movie already? Ive been busy teaching but Im so keen, I cant wait!

20.01.2022 Do you sing lullabies with your children? They are such an important way to connect with your child, for them to hear your voice and for them to experience language. Most parents are afraid they sound bad so dont sing with their children but guess what, kids dont care. Your child loves your voice, no matter how bad you think you sound. Give it a go and be brave! Weve just found a wonderful podcast all about empowering parents to sing lullabies with their children. Its put together by a woman in Newcastle and aims to teach a different lullaby every week. Let us know if you give it a go.

19.01.2022 Heres one of our favourite songs for the younger classes at Jirani, called Head Shrinker. Its great for articulation of consonants and getting your tongue around those fast syllables. Have a go singing with Alisen and see if you can remember the order of each verse.

19.01.2022 Throwback to 2013 when a few of our young singers joined the Sola Voce choir to perform Pergolesis haunting Stabat Mater. These girls are our amazing seniors and leaders now!

19.01.2022 We're saying goodbye to one of our amazing senior singers next week. Eloise has been singing with us for 8 years and has grown up with her Jirani family. We are all going to miss you and wish you the best of luck next year at uni.

19.01.2022 Come to Dinner is a canon we are working on this term in the Jirani Juniors class. If your child is in this class then they could probably sing it to you by themselves.

18.01.2022 We did some pentatonic work in the Juniors class today. Solfa is way more fun when you can use 'texting sticks'.

18.01.2022 Our new sign arrived today and is already on the fence outside the hall. Goodbye to our old sign, its 6 years old and is headed for retirement.

16.01.2022 Oooh, I love this way of remembering the meaning of Fermata.

15.01.2022 Weve been busy preparing for online learning in term 2. Yesterday we had our first zoom chat where Jirani students met up with the teachers for the first time online. It went really well and were excited to get started teaching online lessons starting next week.

15.01.2022 It was so nice to get this positive feedback from a few Jirani parents. Online singing lessons are a little difficult when you cant hear everyone at the same time, luckily we can still see their joyful faces.

13.01.2022 Our lovely Mezzos would like to introduce you to Jirani Bear. Hes a regular visitor to their class and they love including him in their songs and games.

13.01.2022 Whos going to a choir concert next month? QPAC is hosting 2 equally amazing but vastly different groups. The Soweto Gospel Choir is performing on 3rd August and the choir of Kings College, Cambridge is performing on 1st August. Grab some tickets soon, before they sell out!

10.01.2022 To celebrate coming back together for live lessons, each Jirani class had a picnic party last week. The children loved being together again, playing games, eating snacks and seeing friends. Even Jirani Bear joined in the fun.

10.01.2022 Weve just got some new mini whiteboards and the students love them.

08.01.2022 Today is our concert day! When: 2pm Where: St Johns Lutheran, Corinda.

07.01.2022 Oh dear, what to do with those awkward hands!

07.01.2022 Weve just finished 7 weeks of online singing lessons using zoom software. It was a lot of fun exploring new possibilities and ways to connect but we all agree, in person lessons are still the best!

05.01.2022 Thanks to my friends at Crescendo Music for this Sunday night funny.

05.01.2022 We're trying out a new outdoor venue for our Christmas concert this year and the view's not too bad. If you're not sure of the details, just send me a message.

05.01.2022 Wish me luck, this afternoon Im performing in a concert with Fusion Vocal Ensemble. Its so strange being the performer instead of the conductor.

04.01.2022 Phew, weve made it to the end of a challenging term! Enjoy your time off and take care of each other. See you next month!

04.01.2022 Theres always a way to make music together, even while being careful and staying in your home.

04.01.2022 Im curious to know: What other music lessons does your child do, besides Jirani singing?

02.01.2022 Anyone else had fun playing around with the Acapella app? (Only on apple devices, sorry)

02.01.2022 Jirani is back in full swing for 2020 and we are having a wonderful time singing and learning together. Here are our Juniors doing a melodic composition task.

02.01.2022 It's November, no one can stop me now! #bestmusicoftheyear

01.01.2022 While we have to take a little break from being together, here is a photo from a few weeks ago with some of our favourite furry friends who join in our musical journey.

01.01.2022 Happy World Environment Day! This is an issue that I feel strongly about and so do many other musicians. Songwriters put their ideas, hopes, fears and dreams into their music. If you look closely, youll find comments about our environment in many amazing songs. Even good old Peter Coombe wrote about the "Juicy Juicy Green Grass" disappearing. One of my current favourites is "Laps Around the Sun" by Aussie artist Ziggy Alberts. Look at the lyrics and youll see he has some strong ideas about our natural environment.
